The police in Niger State arrested six persons for allegedly stoning Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello in Bida last Thursday.
Police Commissioner Dibal Yakadi confirmed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna yesterday.
The governor went to assess the damage in Bida old Market, which was burnt on March 1, and to sympathise with victims of the inferno.
But some people booed the governor and pelted his official vehicle.
The night fire destroyed 900 shops and the governor donated N20 million to victims.
Yakadi said investigation had begun to establish those who sponsored the action.
“As soon as we finish our investigations, the suspects will be charged to court to deter others,” he said.
Yakadi added that the command has taken proactive security measures to deal with any form of threat to peace in the state
