The Ijebu-Ode Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Assistant Corps Commander Austin U. Ekele, has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to support FRSC in spreading road safety messages across the country.

Ekele spoke at a workshop organised by the command for NYSC members, road safety clubs and their coordinators in various schools within its jurisdiction at Ilese Town Hall near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The workshop’s theme was: The Role of Road Safety Club in Achieving 2016 FRSC Corporate/Strategic Goals.

The FRSC commander said the workshop was meant to enlighten and educate NYSC members that their effective performance would help the corps’ 2016 strategic goal of reducing road crashes by 15 per cent and fatality by 25 per cent.

He said: “Road safety clubs are agents of safety. They need to be knowledgeable and conversant with the highway codes. This will go a long way in reducing road crashes in the country.”

Ekele urged the NYSC-RSC to be the enlightenment tool and channel to enable the FRSC achieve its vision.

He said: “If we are able to get it right with the youths through the road safety, Nigerian roads will be crash-free.”

The commander urged the NYSC-RSC to be an embodiment of discipline, saying FRSC was anchored on discipline.

The dos and don’ts of the FRSC were spelt out to them- at the event.
