Stay home to develop the sector, Isolo CMD appeals to health workers

The Medical Director of Isolo General Hospital, Dr. Godwing Akhabhoa recently made an appeal to workers in the country’s health sector to resist the temptation of brain drain, and develop the sector. Gboyega Alaka, who was at its 2018 Service Charter Week, reports.

THE Medical Director/CEO of General Hospital Isolo, Dr. Godwin Akhabhoa, has appealed to Nigerian health workers to resist the urge to seek greener pastures abroad.

Akhabhoa made the appeal during the activities marking the 2018 Service Charter Week in Lagos. He pleaded with the health workers to stay back and contribute to achieve the health sector of their dream in the country, adding that such exodus could cripple the country’s health sector.

The Medical Director used the occasion to reiterate the commitment of the hospital to continue to provide quality services to its teeming patients. He reassured that the hospital would make the best use of the limited resources to provide quality and satisfactory medical services to patients. With team work, he said, the management and staff of the hospital would achieve such aspiration.

He said, “The hospital exists to provide medical service to patients. That is why we are here. In any area of our work that you feel not satisfied, do not hesitate to call out attention,” he added.

In her goodwill message, the Commissioner 1, Lagos State Health Service Commission Board, Dr. Mrs. Musirat Oyekan, commended General Hospital Isolo for making the state government proud as its patients are well taken care of. In recognition of this, she said, the State Governor, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode gave two units of defibrillators, an apparatus used to control hear fibrillation, to the hospital.

Delivering a lecture titled: “Growth mindset,” the Director of Creativity and Innovation, Lagos State, Mrs. Ademuyiwa Toyin asked the staff of the hospital to have growth mindset to take the hospital to the next level.

The highlights of the occasion were the unveiling of the most outstanding service charter compliance officer for the third quarter, Dr. Akiseku Oluwabunmi and unveiling of an anthem for the hospital.

Akhabhoa earlier in the year won three out of five service charter awards of the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

The awards, which included Best Performing Chartered Facility Medical Director for 2017, Best Performing Health Facility for the year 2017 and Best Improved Chartered Health Facility for year 2017, attracted encomiums from various stakeholders, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who said the feat was a confirmation of the commendations he received from patients who patronized the hospital.

Isolo General Hospital also emerged the Best General Hospital in Lagos.
