The police in Damaturu have confirmed that the Monday suicide attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the outskirts of Damaturu has claimed eight lives.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state Toyin Gbadegesin told reporters in Damaturu that five out of the eight people that were killed are the suspected bombers while the remaining three are policemen on routine patrol on the highway.
He said that two more security personnel were critically injured and currently at a Specialist Hospital Damaturu receiving treatment.
Gbadegesin explained that the policemen made an immediate call for re-enforcement after suspecting that the two vehicles intercepted (a highlander Toyota SUV and a Sharon wagon) were loaded with explosives when one of the bombers detonated the cars.
He explained the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) of the state police command were deployed to diffuse more IED discovered at the scene which according to him would have been triggered off by a sixty year old woman suspected to be one of the bombers who did not die immediately the attack was orchestrated.
Monday’s attack is coming three days after twin bomb blast destructed the Sallah celebration in Damaturu with the killing of 15 people.
