Nasarawa state Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has observed with concern recent unsavory outbursts and bickering among supporters of two former governors of the state, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the APC national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. He expressed concern over the use of foul and unprintable languages in the face-off. Governor Sule spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, and made available to our correspondent yesterday in Lafia. According to the statement “This development is not only detestable but signifies retrogressive politicking; the kind that divides and retards progress.
The outpour of emotions at such moments is understandable but must be tamed in order to ensure harmony, peaceful coexistence and growth of our party, the APC and the state in particular. It is on record that Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has gone to the residence of Senator Abdullahi Adamu to congratulate him on his victory, promising to support him to achieve victory for the party in the forthcoming general elections in 2023. In view of the foregoing therefore, Engr. Sule wishes to appeal for calm especially if we profess true love and support for these two elder statesmen; saying “we should emulate them by making peace instead of bitter rivalry which is an ill wind that blows no one any good”.
He advised that all must not forget that both Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Tanko Al-Makura are illustrious sons of the state and highly respected Statesmen who preach and practice peaceful coexistence. Governor Sule urges that citizens do everything within their powers to remain peaceful and avoid actions that will portray Nasarawa to the rest of the country as being unable to manage our victory. “In spite of the outcome all well meaning citizens share the belief that it is better that the National Chairmanship position still came to Nasarawa State; we should therefore be seen to be grateful to Allah for this and other blessings to our dear State.” The Nasarawa state governor calls for sober reflection and restraint, describing the development as a victory for all.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has urged the new National Chairman of APC, Senator Adamu, to forgive all those who wrong him in the past. He advised the chairman to provide an inclusive administration to members of the party and Nigerians. Abdullahi made the call when he led APC members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on a congratulatory visit to Senator Abdullahi Adamu in his residence in Keffi yesterday.
The Speaker, who represent Umaisha/ Ugya constituency of Toto local government area of Nasarawa State, said they were at Adamu’s residence to congratulate and rejoice with him on his emergence as APC National Chairman. “We are here to congratulate and rejoice with you on your emergence as APC National Chairman. Your emergence is the will of God. God gives power to whomever he wishes. We are all your children and you are our father, we know your capacity and leadership qualities. I am assuring you of our 100 percent loyalty and support to succeed.”
Responding, the APC National Chairman appreciated the Speaker and other members of the House for the visit. He has assured of his readiness to carry members of the party along in order to ensure the victory of the party beyond 2023. “I thank God Almighty and I thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the position. You are the voice of the people, part and parcel of the APC government. I need more of your support now than ever to succeed and to take the party to the greater height,” he said.
