Sunshine hold Enyimba

Enyimba saw their title bid suffer a setback as they were held 0-0  by Sunshine Stars.

Amid poor continental form, Paul Aigbogun’s  side lacked a cutting edge at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in a game of few clear chances.

Sunshine Star’s form has been quite the opposite – losing just once in their last three games under coach Solomon Ogbeide.

Stephen Chukwude spurned a glorious chance in the fourth minute as Aigbogun’s men  failed to bounce back from their draw at home to Enugu Rangers – which means they remain sixth on the Nigeria elite division log.

Goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo was called into action in the 14th minutes as he saved Ugwu Uwadiegwu’s corner at the near post. Opportunities to score were few and far between in the early stages, with Mfon Udoh firing over from inside the area and Joseph Osadiaye hitting a tame effort towards goal from 20 yards as Enyimba carved out half-chances.

The hosts were presented with a great opportunity to take the lead after Udoh was fouled in the Owena Waves’ penalty area but the kick was missed. Ifeanyi Onuigbo’s attempt kissed the woodwork despite sending Olorunleke the wrong way.

Ogbeide’s men continued on the front foot early in the second half but were reminded of Enyimba’s threat when the hosts broke just short of the hour mark only to see the move break down with a poor Bartholomew Ibenegbu pass in the final third.
