Sunshine officials task players to target win in Lafia

Top officials of Sunshine Stars have tasked the Akure Gunners to forget their shock Round of 64 elimination from the Federation Cup and prove the doubters’ wrong with an away win against Nasarawa United in Lafia on Sunday.

Sunshine Stars got the shocks of their lives when they were beaten 3-1 by non league side, J Atete of Delta Stats in the Federation Cup despite taking the lead in the match through Tamen Medrano. But, the club’s Media Officer, Wahab Bankole and Assistant Technical Director, Ondo State Football Agency, Henry Abiodun told SportingLife that the players can silence critics with good performance in Lafia.

Both officials agreed that so many things went wrong in the build-up to the encounter and that players’ over confidence played a major role in the defeat and that the players have been advised accordingly on what should be done in future outings.

Abiodun told SportingLife: “So many things went wrong in the match and the defeat is an eye opener. We had some logistics problems and some of the newly tried players couldn’t lift up to the billings. We shall correct our lapses against Nasarawa United.”

Bankole on his part opined: “We have many things to learn from our defeat by J Atete. We had sufficient information on them but it seemed the players thought they would beat them easily so they had their minds on the game with Nasarawa United already. They have promised to correct the errors noticed against the Lafia side.”

Sunshine Stars are first on the log with 16 points from eight matches.
