Super Eagles’ Dennis, Awoniyi in key club battle

 Taiwo Awoniyi

Super Eagles stars  continue to chase glory for their respective clubs with Emmanuel Dennis, Taiwo Awoniyi and  few others in key games in England, Germany and Scotland

In England, Watford’s task of avoiding an immediate drop back down to the Championship has become much tougher, after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Leeds United last weekend.

Hodgson’s side remain 19th  in the table but a victory for Everton against Manchester United last weekend means that the gap to safety has increased to six points with seven games remaining.

Watford’s miserable home form has seen them lose their last nine league games in succession at Vicarage Road, conceding 25 goals in the process. Another defeat on their own turf this weekend would see the Hornets become only the second team in top-flight history to lose 10 consecutive home matches in the same season after Birmingham City back in February 1986.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles attacker, Emmanuel Dennis is the most likely candidate to replace injured Lucho Hernandez in the starting line-up, joining Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr in attack. He has played 29 league games with nine goals this term alone.

The chances of his other compatriots: William Troost Ekong, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Samuel Kalu having any role to play in the game against Brentford is quite remote.

Brentford, who beat Watford 2-1 in the reverse fixture in December, will face the Hornets without their Super Eagles midfielder, Frank Onyeka who is yet to recover from ankle injury he suffered while on international duties with Nigeria last month.

In Scotland, It’s the big one tomorrow afternoon with a place in the Scottish Cup final on offer – and it’s not one that you want to miss.

It’s the second meeting in just a few weeks for the Glasgow rivals after their titanic Scottish Premiership tussle earlier in April.

The Gers will rely heavily on Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey to beat their eternal rivals, Celtic tomorrow. Aribo with 49 appearances, eight goals and 10 assists will no doubt lead the line while Bassey will also like to add to his 42 games and five assists in all competitions. Leon Balogun is the third Nigerian at Rangers. He has played 31 games and two goals.

In Germany, tomorrow afternoon, Union Berlin hosts Eintracht Frankfurt at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, in a big game for both team’s European chances in the Bundesliga.

Union Berlin is only out of the Bundesliga’s European spots courtesy of an inferior goal difference to sixth-place Hoffenheim.
