Suru Worldwide Ventures Nigeria Limited has called for urgent intervention by relevant authorities to stop what it described as “persistent harassments” the company has suffered in the hands of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) in recent times.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos, the Company Secretary/Legal Manager, Anomneze Obianuju Peace, said that on June 8th, 2018, AMCON brought mobile policemen from Mopol 20 and dislodged security men at the company’s duty post and also brought their security guards to mount the gate on the company’s property.
She explained that “AMCON in the suit no. FHC/L/CS/1059/16 got a judgment dated 30/5/2017, against the IGP and Civil Defence Corps, but alleged that “the judgment was gotten without the knowledge of our company. This judgment was kept away from our company until our company’s properties affected by the order were stormed in Commando style by AMCON.”
Speaking further, Anomneze alleged that AMCON also mobilised armed mobile Policemen to the Best Western Hotel, switched off the hotel’s generator, tear-gassed the workers and the lodgers and brought the company’s business to an abrupt halt. According her: “In the suit, to which our client was deliberately not made a party, AMCON prayed the court to allow it take possession of our company’s properties at No. 12 Allen Avenue Ikeja, Lagos; The Best Western Hotel), 86 Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos, and No 12, Rev. Ogunbiyi Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos as according to it, the properties are securities of alleged debt, adding that “the case was therefore decided as an undefended suit.”
She revealed further that the Suru Worldwide Venture had filed an appeal against the judgment and therefore considers the action of AMCON as harassment.
