Idowu Kolawole, the suspect who broke into the home of the Ekiti State Nation correspondent, Odunayo Ogunmola, was yesterday remanded in Ado Ekiti prisons after he failed to meet his bail conditions.
The accused was unable to meet the bail conditions as at the time the court closed; he was subsequently taken to Ado Ekiti prisons where he will be till the next sitting on September 13.
Kolawole was arraigned on a four-count charge of burglary and stealing of household items.
Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade granted the accused a bail of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
She ruled that one of the sureties must be the accused’s parent, who must provide his birth certificate.
Ajibade further held that the second surety must be a civil servant on Grade Level 12, with a national identity card, adding that the two sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Police Prosecutor Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 10am last Thursday at the house located near Deeper Life Campground, Ajebamidele, Ado Ekiti.
According to the prosecutor, Kolawole stole a Samsung Plasma Television set valued at N65,000; HP Laptop valued at N110,000, a C1 Nokia Phone valued at N8,000; two phone chargers valued at N1,600 and two cans of malt drink valued #200, all properties of Ogunmola.
Akinwale explained that the stolen items have been recovered and presented before the court as exhibits.
He asked for an adjournment of the matter to enable him go through the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the accused, Victor Saliu, pleaded for bail on liberal terms on behalf of his client, whom he said would not jump bail.
But Akinwale opposed the bail plea on grounds that Kolawole might jump bail because of his antecedents.
Kolawole pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Ajibade adjourned the case till September 13 for further hearing.
