Suspected herders kill 18 villagers in Benue

No fewer than 18 natives of Mchia village in Nbagber Council Area of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State have been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be herders.  A total of 21 people were said to have sustained various degrees of injury and are receiving treatment at NKST Hospital Anyiin.

The incident, it was learnt, took place late Wednesday night.

Narrating how the attack occurred to our correspondent, Personal Aid to the Council Chairman on Security Matters and a member, Police Community Relations, Logo LGA, Jeyol Jeremiah Hilene, said: “At about 10:00 pm armed herdsmen attacked Mchia village in Nbagber council ward Logo LGA. They murdered 12 persons and shot 15 persons including children who are now receiving treatment at NKST hospital Anyiin.

“Those murdered  include Mr. Atsagba Oliver Chion, Mr.  Mchivga Utume, Mr. Bemdoo Hindi, Mr. Aondonengen Kwaghwe, Mr. Shinku Ngimsho, Mr Gwa Joseph, Mr Vihishima Mbanomso, Mr Liter Yeke, Mr. Sonter Chieam, Mr.  Aondosoo and two others.

“They also carried out a separate attack on Mou village in Ukemberegy /Tswarev Council Ward Logo LGA and murdered 2 persons; Mr Lanem Dooior and Mr Iorungwa Andy Uchir. They also shot and injured four persons; Mr Shaorga Akaaume, Mr.  Emeka Ike (an Igbo man) Mr. Ubugh Obele and  Mr. Aondosoo Aondoakaa. The victims are also receiving treatment at NKST hospital Anyiin. The attack was unprovoked

The death toll rose the following day to 16 while 21 victims are receiving treatment at NKST Hospital Anyiin two of them have been referred to BSUTH.”
