Suspected insurgent held in Abuja

The FCT Police Command at the weekend arrested a suspected insurgent.

Seth Yakubu, from Obi council of Nasarawa State, was arrested after a tip off.

Commissioner of Police Musa Kimo, who addressed reporters yesterday, said: “Yesterday (Sunday), at 11.30am, Seth Yakubu was arrested at Gwako village in Gwagwalada Council, after the police received a tip off on his strange behaviour.

“He confessed to be a member of the Boko Haram group, saying he escaped to the village from Sambisa Forest after their hideout was dislodged by the Air Force.

“He also said he is the second-in-command in his unit and he participated, actively, in deadly attacks launched by the group.

“Yakubu left Maiduguri on Friday and arrived at Gwako on Saturday, about 10am, to conceal his identity and seek refuge.”

On how he joined the group, Yakubu said: “I was given Army recruitment form to fill last year and after I filled it, I sent it back to my friend who in turn returned it to the person who gave him the form.

“On October 10, they took us to Zaria for training and after the training, we were given a substance to take; they said it would change our mindset.

“After we took the substance, they told us we were not recruits of the Army but among those who will assist Boko Haram fight the Army to Islamize the country.”
