Lagos State Government is set to regulate swimming pool operations.
The proposed regulation titled, ‘Lagos State Safety Commission (Public Swimming Pools) Regulations 2014,’ makes it an offence to operate a swimming pool service without permission.
The regulation was examined by stakeholders yesterday at a meeting called by the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Special Duties.
Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, who was represented by Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade, said the regulation was necessary to prepare Lagos for its smart city aspirations.
Secretary/Legal Assistant of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mrs. Omotola Sanusi, said the commission made some additions to the regulation.
The additions, according to him, include barring swimmers from entering pools with an open wound and swimming without a lifeguard on duty.
A legal officer from the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Folarin Adeola, advised that it should be included in the regulations that a first aid box should be placed at the side of any swimming pool.
