    Fans excited as 1XBET Cup begins in style

    It was fun and excitement as the maiden edition of the 1XBET Cup kicked off Tuesday at the Nitel Training ground venue of the DBI Conference.

    In the first game of the competition, in a Group A clash, Capital Avalanche and Cheche Stars played out a 1-1 draw. While in the second match of the day, Fackson FC thrashed Soccer Touch 3-1 to lead the log in the round-phase of the competition.

    An excited Alex Kanu, who captained and also scored the equalising goal for Cheche Stars, expressed his gratitude to 1XBET, for sponsoring the competition. Adding that it would help to keep non-league players busy, as well as, giving them the opportunity to expose their talents. The young midfield dynamo, whose dad Monday Kanu, was a former Nigeria international player who also played for Bendel Insurance and Julius Berger.

    Also speaking with journalists, Waidi Akanni who is the Coordinator and Consultant for the 1XBET Cup, said he was happy that the competition started on a good note. Akanni disclosed that there are plans by the organisers and the sponsors to bring more exciting moments to the participating teams and fans, as the competition progresses.

    Hostities continued in match Day 2, with matches played in group B at the same venue. It began with G-Innovation FC and Bariga FC playing out a 2-2 draw in a game which could well be described as a game of two halves.

    The second game of group B played between Emiloju FC and Ifako FC, was a spirited display by the two youthful sides.

    And with neither side, giving ground to the other. End to end actions, yet, it couldn’t produce a winner.

    Matches DBI Conference continue tomorrow in the 1XBET Cup at the same venue.

    Action begins at 1XBET Cup in Lagos

    Action will begin in the first edition of the 1XBET Cup tomorrow in the DBI Conference as Capital Avalanche takes on Cheche Star FC, while Soccer Touch lock horns with Fackson FC at the NITEL ground, Oshodi.

    It will be the turn of Group B teams on Wednesday at the same venue as Bariga FC and G. Innovation do battle in the first game while Ifako FC and Emiloju FC takes to pitch for the second game.

    On Thursday, Group A matches resume as Cheche Stars Fc takes on Soccer Touch, while Capital Avalanche confronts Fackson FC. The conference will, once again, come alive on Friday as

    Bariga FC test their might against Emiloju FC, while G. innovation dares Ifako FC in Group B.

    Hostilities will continue in the Conference next Tuesday to determine the two teams that will proceed to the 1X final eight.

    Chairman of 1XBET, Dr. Femi Babalola, urged the teams to adhere strictly to the rules of the competition, show their skills and eschew violence. He noted that 1XBET was ready to take its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to the grassroot.

    He said:” We are excited to be the sponsor of this football tournament that will ensure grassroot participation. The players must play according to the rules of the tournament. I will also urge the teams to eschew violence and give their best at all times.”

    Coordinator of the tournament, Waidi Akanni said the competition would have five conferences with eight teams, out of the 40, qualifying for the 1X final eight. He also said that the idea behind the tournament is to give non-league players an opportunity to showcase their talent.

    “We are ready to begin the tournament and I am hopeful that the non-league players who will be involved will see this as an opportunity to show what they can do. It strictly a community-based programme and what happens to the players after the tournament will be strictly a personal thing,” he added.
