2Baba: It’s ridiculous to compare Fela, Wizkid

Veteran musician, Innocent ‘2Baba‘ Idibia has described comparisons between Afrobeats star Wizkid and the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti as ‘ridiculous’.

Speaking on the upcoming ‘Mic On’ podcast, 2Baba said placing the two musicians side by side ignores the vastly different eras.

“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous. Apart from the fact that it is disrespectful to Fela, at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid,” he said.

No ‘wack artist’ in music industry – 2baba

Renowned singer, 2Baba, has claimed that there is no such thing as a “wack artist” in the music industry.

Speaking in a recent video message, the African Queen crooner argued that every music is tailored-made to evoke emotions and create a spirit, and acceptance is largely dependent on promotion and commercial strategies.

According to 2Baba, “Every music is tailored to evoke an emotion, to create a spirit. There is nothing like a wack artist.

“That is why many of the so-called wack artists are more bankable than the talented ones. Because they understand that it is not the art itself, it is the marketing of that art”.

He emphasised that talent alone is not enough, stating, “No matter how talented you are or how sweet your music is, there is no music that everybody likes. Everything is narrowed down to the marketing, promotion and the business. It is only those who resonate with your music that will like.”

It hurts because you have always been my mentor. I’ve looked up to you since I was 16. I loved every bit of your music, your personality, and the humility you carried yourself. In fact, you were one of the people who taught me what it means to be humble.

“You have had your criticism in the past, but your character and humility still stood tall. I never knew you as someone who fought publicly, argued online, or created drama. The 2Face I grew up loving was calm, humble, and carried himself with grace.

“I know every family has its issues, but one thing I know about 2baba is how he never speaks on things like this. No matter what happened behind closed doors, you never brought it outside.

“Sir, you may have your private battles with anyone in your life that is normal, but the version of events being brought online now is damaging and unfamiliar to those of us who truly love and respect you. Your current situation is presenting a side of you that many of us have never seen, and it is painful to watch. Please, sir… for the sake of people like me who have loved you from a young age… Please take control of this situation.

“We still believe in you. We still admire you. We still want to see the 2Baba we grew up respecting. This message is from a boy who has loved you since he was 16. I chose this particular song because suddenly, the lyrics hit differently. With respect, love, and deep concern, a loyal fan.”

An Instagram live session hosted by media personality Daddy Freeze took an unexpected turn when singer 2Baba and his wife, Natasha Osawaru, were heard in a heated argument in the background, an incident that has since gone viral on social media.

The controversy arose from allegations made against Natasha by 2Baba’s former management team, Kaka Igbokwe and Lori Tosan, who appeared on Daddy Freeze’s live session.

During the broadcast, the managers accused Natasha of seeking “full control” over 2Baba’s personal and professional life.

2Baba joins Made-in-Benue movement to drive cultural, economic renaissance

Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has officially been unveiled as a major partner in the Made In Benue Project, signaling a new chapter in the decade-long cultural and creative initiative from Benue State.

2Baba’s involvement positions him as the project’s most prominent ambassador since its inception in 2016, when it was launched to translate creative talents into economic opportunities.

At a joint press conference held at JRC Chariot Apartments, Abuja, 2Baba described the initiative as “a movement that goes far beyond an event,” highlighting its cultural, economic, and social dimensions.

“Made In Benue is a movement, a cultural, economic, and social awakening designed to showcase the strength, creativity, and potential of the Benue people,” he said.

He added, “Our mission is simple: to take Benue to the world,” calling on indigenes both at home and in the diaspora to rally behind the initiative. He also appealed to the State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, to champion the movement as part of a broader drive for youth empowerment and economic transformation.

2Baba further urged corporate bodies, government agencies, and development partners to support the project through collaboration and investment. He noted that his 2Baba NewPhase Initiative would serve as a driving force behind the Made In Benue vision.

“I am willing, ready, and deeply motivated to work with all stakeholders to ensure that this movement becomes a national and global force,” he emphasized.

The project’s convener, Ordue Andrew Ikon, popularly known as OD Woods, said the 2025 edition marks the 10th anniversary of Made In Benue, which began as a platform to promote Benue talents and culture.

According to OD Woods, the event has evolved from a single-day concert into one of Nigeria’s leading creative showcases, giving hundreds of young artists their first exposure while generating thousands of jobs across event production, fashion, catering, and logistics sectors.

“What began as a dream to give Benue talents a stage has become one of Nigeria’s most anticipated entertainment and cultural events. Today, Made In Benue is a brand, a movement, and a celebration of identity,” he said.

He added that this year’s edition would expand into a multi-day festival featuring exhibitions in fashion, leatherworks, food and beverage production, tourism, and hospitality—efforts aimed at highlighting Benue’s economic potential and attracting investors.

Announcing 2Baba’s involvement, OD Woods described it as a “major boost” for the project’s next phase, saying the award-winning artist embodies the ideals of authenticity, creativity, and global excellence.

“2Baba’s partnership brings a new level of value and inspiration. His involvement is not just about performance. It’s about mentorship, vision, and giving back,” he said.

The collaboration is expected to open new opportunities for Benue creatives, strengthen local industries, and project the state’s unique heritage to a global audience.

The Made In Benue Live Concert and Festival is scheduled for December 26, 2025, in Makurdi, Benue State.

“Let us come together. Let us tell our story. Let us elevate Benue,” 2Baba declared. “Greatness is truly Made in Benue.”
