    The trio of pop star Kiss Daniel, rapper Phyno and singer/songwriter Simi will be performing at the City of Friends event to mark this year’s World Friendship Day in Calabar and Lagos. The announcement was made during the press conference organised by “33” Export Lager beer to unveil their World Friendship Day flagship event tagged City of Friends at the Nigerian Breweries HQ in Lagos.

    The artistes while expressing their excitement on the World Friendship Day celebration via their social media pages promised to thrill their teeming fans at both cities. ”We are thrilled to be hosting the City of Friends. This has been a core theme of our brand and we revel in bringing these friendship experiences to our customers across the country,” said Portfolio Manager, Mainstream Lager and Stout Brands, NB Plc, Emmanuel Agu.

    On the choice of the performing artistes, he added that “it was a painstaking and deliberate search. After careful consideration, Phyno, Simi, Kiss Daniel, Harry Songz, Fuji sensation, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Mc Galaxy, were selected for several reasons, chief among which are their popularity among young Nigerians, prominence, and the impact they’ve made in the Nigerian music industry in the last one year. They are hardworking and are known to be ambassadors of friendship.”

    He further noted that “33” Export Lager beer does not just want to celebrate friends on billboards and magazines, but opted to create a city, an enclosed funfair, for friends where great memories can be shared.” The artistes will be thrilling their fans with songs from their latest albums. Phyno will be expected to drop songs Fada Fada, Authe as well as his most recent track NWA. X3M Music act Simi who is loved for her soulful tunes such as Tiff, Jamb Question, Joromi and many others will also grace the stage to delight all in attendance.

    In the last two years, Kiss Daniel has proven to be a certified hit maker and will entertain the crowd with tracks like Yeba, Baba, among several others. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma might be a Fuji act, but his ability to cross over into hip hop and pop is one of the characteristics that have endeared him to millennial generation. With a career spanning over two decades, fans are in for a swell time at the friendship parties. MC Galaxy too would be on ground to deliver comedy and music. The City of Friends event holds at the Municipal Gardens in Calabar this weekend, while the Lagos event will hold at the Eagles’ Club in Surulere on 3rd and 4th August.

  • NB Plc unveils “33” Export PenDown competition

    The Nigerian Breweries has set machinery in motion to hold the “33” Export PenDown competition later this month.

    The Pendown for friendship Competition which has since begun accepting entries will be extending its value proposition of friendship and supporting the craft of writing. The competition which was announced at the press briefing unveiled for the four-day tagged the “City Of Friends”, to be hosted in Lagos and Calabar as part of activities marking the 2018 World Friendship Day on July 30th.

    At separate views by the Marketing Director of Nigerian Breweries, makers of “33” Export and other premium beer brands, Mr. Franco Maria Maggi they said, the “33” Export brand is dedicated to building friendship moments.

    “33” Export has further enlisted the services of renowned journalists as Judges for the competition. The judges will include public relation expert Anthony Kan Onwordi (Toni Kan), award winning writer Pelu Awofeso, and Saturday Punch editor Olabisi Deji-Folutile.

    The write-ups will be judged by a jury of three acclaimed writers – Anthony Kan, Pelu Awofeso and Olabisi Deji-Folutile. The three Judges will decide on the eventual winners that will be rewarded with various prizes ranging from training grants worth up to the tune of N3million as well as other prizes such as laptops, phones, and television, based on the quality of entries.

    Writers who win the training grant will get the chance to train at the any School or Institute of Media and Communications to take courses in areas such as Creativity in Business Writing, Advanced business communication, Digital marketing and more. This commendable initiative has garnered widespread praise and writers have already begun to air their excitement about the competition.

    Participation in the contest is open to all Nigerian journalists, bloggers and writers. Entries should include previously published articles with a minimum of 1,500 words and maximum of 3,000 words. The theme of the article should focus on friendship and have considerable mentions of “33” Export. To spice up the entire event, there will also be the City of Friends party in Lagos and Calabar.

    Popular beer brand, “33” Export, has unveiled its Export Friendship Experience Parties, a run of experiential events meant to celebrate memorable moments made special through friendships.

    The event will host friends in popular bars and clubs across Nigeria, and reward consumers with memorable experiences in honour of the bonds they share.

    The series of events commenced on Friday March 10, 2017 in Lagos and Ibadan. They were hosted by popular comedians, DJs and a host of others who thrilled consumers with music, games and other engaging activities.

    FG uncovers 33,000 ghost workers

    Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun has said the ministry has succeeded in reducing Federal Government’s  monthly wage bill from N165bn to N142bn by eliminating 33,000 ghost workers.

    Adeosun, represented by the Head of the Efficiency Unit at the Ministry, Mrs. Patience Oniha, at the 2016 Fiscal Liquidity Assessment Committee Retreat, said the ministry had discovered that it could also save money by reviewing government’s procurement processes.

    She said that through the Efficiency Unit, the ministry had succeeded in negotiating huge discounts for government officials travelling on local and international flights for official assignments.

    Adeosun said that the ministry had also been able to save cost by banning sitting allowances, souvenirs at government’s functions and unnecessary adverts which had contributed to the high recurrent expenditure in government.

    The event, which held in 20 locations across five cities saw many loyal fans of the brand rewarded.

    “The World Friendship Day is a day that defines the special moments that brings the world together to acknowledge and foster the feeling of mutual understanding and solidarity. As a brand that celebrates the special bond between friends, the “33” Friendship parties are about celebrating those wonderful moments and days in the lives of our wonderful customers,” Bassey stressed.

    The parties held simultaneously in bars, restaurants, and clubs in Uyo, Benin, Port Harcourt, Osogbo, Badagry, Calabar, Eket, Agbor, Surulere and other locations in Nigeria. To share the insightful knowledge that Nigerians have about friendship, participants took part in challenges where they had to provide answers to intimate and personal questions about their loved ones at the event.

    The competitions allowed participants to make calls to their unwitting friends who were meant to save them from ‘trouble’ in specified locations. Those who showed up to save their friends were subsequently rewarded with various gifts and cash prizes.

    Navy arrests two boats with 671 bags of rice

    The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Nigerian Navy in Calabar, yesterday, arrested two large wooden boats popularly known as `Cotonou boats’ with 22 passengers alongside 671 bags of rice brought into the country from Cameroon.

     

     

    Flag Officer Commanding of the Command, Rear Admiral Atiku Abdulkadir, said that the boats were arrested by men of the Navy on board `Nigerian Navy Ship Makurdi ‘while on sea patrol along the Calabar waterways.

     

    Abdulkadir said that one of the boats was carrying 14 Nigerians with 550 bags of rice, while the other carried eight Cameroonians with 121 bags of rice.

     

    According to him, the boats were arrested because the passengers on board had no valid traveling documents, hence the need to check them and hand them over to the relevant agencies for further actions.

     

    “These boats were arrested by our men on patrol Nigeria Navy Ship Makurdi with 671 bags of rice. 14 of the passengers are Nigerians while eight of them are Cameroonians.

     

    “We want to search them and see what they are up to, because, out of the 22 of them, only one woman has a valid traveling passport that can be identified.

     

    “We have to pick them up, do more investigations and hand them over to the relevant agencies for further actions.

     

    “If we find them free of any security threat, we would easily release them.

     

    “We are concerned about security on the water ways, we must continue to maintain our presence at sea and also maintain our intelligence network’’, he said.

     

    The FOC said that the Navy would carry out more enlightenment campaigns to sensitise the public on the need to process valid traveling documents before leaving for another country.

     

    “Some of the passengers are ignorant over this, we must continue to enlighten them. We must also continue to mount our presence at sea in other curb illegal movement, sea piracy and oil theft’’, he said.

     

    Mr Samuel Bassey, 33, Captain of one of the boats, said he bought the rice from Cameroon to sell in Nigeria to make some profit.

     

    Bassey who admitted not having a valid traveling passport, said that he has been using the boat for transport business for over three years.

     

    “I have been using this boat for over three years now. I don’t have a valid traveling passport, but I intend to have one soon’’ he said.

     

  • 33 Immigration officers promoted in Enugu

    The Nigerian Immigration Service, Enugu State command has decorated 33 newly promoted officers of the command.

    The comptroller, Enugu State Command, Ibrahim Bashiru Ismail while speaking at the event, said that the 33 officers were among the over 700 officers that were recently promoted nationwide by the Nigerian Immigration Service.

    The comptroller stated that the promotion of these officers was based on merit, effectiveness, loyalty and hardwork.

    He praised the present administration for its spirited efforts to encourage officers who work hard by the promotion, even as he advised the promoted officers to justify the promotions by working harder.

    He told the decorated officers that: “to whom much is given, much is expected; now you need to do more as gallant officers”.

    He went further to advice other officers who were not among the promoted ones to keep working hard and waits for their time, which he said would come at the appointed time.

    The Enugu State Director of State Security Mr. Victor Duru who was in attendance congratulated the newly promoted and decorated officers and urged them to give their all to the command.

    He stated that both the promoted officers and those that were yet to be promoted should ensure they work selflessly to support the Nigerian Immigration and the country especially now that the country has numerous security challenges.

    The Enugu State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Adamu Abubakar who also spoke at the event, stated that “this occasion is very great, it is something to celebrate.  Officers are always encouraged to do more by promotion, and I advice them not to relax, now is when they are expected to even work harder”.

    The Commissioner of Police also said that promotion which is based on merit and performance is done cadre by cadre and no officer can be promoted above his seniors or when it’s not yet their turn and therefore urge the yet to be promoted officers to exercise patience keep working hard and wait for their time.

    One of the newly promoted officers Mrs. Chinenye Emelemmadu, who was promoted from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Immigration to the rank of Assistant Comptroller of Immigration while expressing her joy thanked the immigration service for what she called an honour, and promised to work as hard as her new rank requires.
