    65th Independence: Igwe Asadu felicitates Tinubu, Mbah, hails unwavering spirit of Nigerians

    The Chairman Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, has felicitated President Bola Tinubu, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and all Nigerians as the nation marks her 65 years of in independence.

    Asadu, the traditional ruler of Edem Ani Ogugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, also felicitated with Enugu Governor Peter Mbah and the good people of Enugu State.

    The traditional ruler conveyed his felicitations in a statement to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

    Asadu, also known as the Ogadagidi of Edem Ani Ogugwu ancient kingdom, extolled the unwavering spirit of Nigerians whose sacrifices and dedication continue to sustain the nation’s unity and progress.

    He also hailed the courage of Nigeria’s founding fathers and celebrated the resilience and diversity that characterised the strength of the nation.

    Asadu, who is the immediate past Chairman of South East Traditional Rulers, commended the ongoing efforts to reposition the economy, strengthen democratic institutions, and foster national renewal.

    He urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to remain steadfast in love for the country, united in purpose, and committed to the shared vision of a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

    Asadu, who is member Board of Trustee Council of Traditional Leaders of Africa (Nigeria Chapter), prayed for God’s wisdom, strength, and protection for President Tinubu, Governor Mbah and others at the corridors of power, as they steer the affairs of the nation and called for continued peace, equity, and development across all parts of Nigeria.

    “On behalf of Enugu State Traditional Rulers and the good people of Edem Ani Ogugwu ancient kingdom, I extend my heartfelt felicitations to His Excellencies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Governor Peter Mbah, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

     “Sixty-five years ago, our beloved country attained the priceless gift of sovereignty, setting us on a journey of unity, peace, and progress.

    “Today, as we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we pay tribute to the resilience, industry, and enduring spirit of the Nigerian people whose sacrifices and hopes continue to drive our nation forward.

     “I commend the dedication to national renewal, economic transformation, and the strengthening of democratic institutions. These efforts reflect a commitment to the Nigeria of our dreams, one where equity, justice, and prosperity are shared by all.’’

    According to him, the  anniversary is a solemn reminder that the task of nation-building belongs to every Nigerian.

    “Let us therefore remain steadfast in love for our country, united in purpose, and unwavering in our collective resolve to overcome current challenges and secure a brighter future for generations yet unborn.

     “May the Almighty God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, guide our leaders, and grant us lasting unity and prosperity.

    “Happy 65th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria!” Asadu said.

    Over 340 pilgrims in Jordan to mark Nigeria’s 65th independence

    • Prayers offered for Tinubu’s govt’s success

    Nigerian Christian pilgrims in Jordan, comprising Adamawa, Imo, and Consulars, yesterday held an interdenominational service at Mount Nebo, Jordan, to commemorate the 65th Independence anniversary of Nigeria.

    Over 340 pilgrims converged on top of the mountain, where Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt but was not able to make it to the Promised Land.

    The prayer session, organised by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) in conjunction with the ground handler in Jordan, was led by His Grace, the Most Rev Markus Ibrahim, the Archbishop of the Province of Jos and the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yola.

    The pilgrims offered prayers for God’s grace and strength for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the sustenance of Nigeria as the country celebrates its 65th Independence anniversary on October 1.

    Prayers were also offered for the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigerian leaders, as well as the NCPC leadership.

    A statement by NCPC’s Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations, Celestine Toruka, reads: “Additionally, the pilgrims offered prayers for the peace of Nigeria and for state governments, particularly those who are pilgrimage-friendly.

    “Earlier, as part of their pilgrimage exercise in Jordan, the pilgrims visited the Mount of Macherius, where King Herod imprisoned and beheaded John the Baptist.

    “This third batch of pilgrims will depart Jordan on September 29 for Israel to continue their 10-day pilgrimage journey before returning to Nigeria.”

    Fed Govt inaugurates committee for 65th Independence

    An Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) for this year’s  Independence Day Celebration was yesterday inaugurated by the Federal Government.

    The committee has  a mandate to plan, organise, and execute all programmes marking the 65th anniversary.

     Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, underscored the importance of patriotism and collective responsibility in nation-building.

    According to a statement  by Director of Information and Public Relations in the office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen, Akume said: “This anniversary is a reminder of where we are coming from and where we are going from here. As a nation, we have faced challenges in areas such as political, economic and social issues but have overcome them.

    “An anniversary is not just a celebration of the past. It is a call for action for the future. We must therefore commit ourselves to build a nation where every citizen feels valued and empowered to contribute his quota to the goals and aspirations of the country,” Akume said.

    The activities for the Independence Day will  begin with a world news conference on  September 25, followed by a Juma’at Service and Women’s Programme on  September 26.

    Other events include youth activities and a historical arts exhibition on September 27, a church service on September 28, and a public lecture on September 29.

    The celebrations will climax with the Presidential Broadcast and Independence Day Parade on  October 1.

    As part of the commemoration, the SGF also unveiled the Nigeria @65 Compendium Project workstation, initiated by CherryAfrica Magazine in collaboration with his office.

    The project includes a state-of-the-art studio for an interview-TV series featuring top government officials on milestones in governance and nation-building under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

    The SGF’s interview inaugurated the series, during which he urged Nigerians to celebrate the country’s achievements over the past 65 years while continuing to place confidence in their leaders.

    According to the organisers, the compendium will serve as a national repository of Nigeria’s development trajectory, covering pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial eras, with emphasis on ministries, departments, agencies, the economy, governance, and other key sectors.
