9janimi Channel to re-launch streaming service

Designed as an alternative to popular music sites, online music platform, 9janimi Channel is getting ready to relaunch its own streaming service. According to its founder, Soltesh Iyere the music channel now offers double tiers for subscribers, whether on desktop or mobile devices, which will be effective before the end of the year.

“The free tiers come with ads, lets users stream thousands of songs from its catalog, and they have to purchase songs they wish to keep or download. The streaming service was launched in 2010, and the new changes announced about a year ago, is now prepared to pay artists royalties. Though it’s not clear yet how large 9janimi Channel’s music catalog is or how well it will do, it is sure to resonate with artistes who are finding the model useful,” Iyere stated.

He further revealed that 9janimi, a Yoruba phrase, which means ‘I’m a Nigerian’ now allows artistes keeps 75% of their songs proceeds through its Fair Trade Streaming agreement.

“9janimi Channel is set to change the way people listen to music in a country known as a haven for piracy. The major challenge is on how to educate the market about this type of service. We have seen a lot of reactions from people, which is one of the skepticism. Our parent company, The Media 360 Company originally projects the streaming service as an alternative to the music industry through which they could easily distribute their songs to music fans and lovers,” Iyere added.

  • 9janimi Channel to pay royalty to artistes

As 9janimi music streaming channel relaunches its service, the management of the platform has promised that it would begin paying royalties to artistes.

Founder of the network, Soltesh Iyere, said that the new platform is designed as an alternative to popular streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. 9janimi Channel, he says, lets independent artistes keep 75% of the proceeds through its “Fair Trade Streaming” agreement.

“The Media 360 Company, owners of 9janimi Channel, originally projected the streaming service as an alternative to the music industry through which they could directly distribute their music to music fans and lovers,” says Iyere.

The online platform, he says, offers two tiers for customers, and streaming on the Web and on iOS and Android (Which they plan to launch before the end of the year for mobile users). The free version comes with ads, lets users into thousands of songs from its catalog, and they have to purchase songs they wish to download or keep, the internet entrepreneur said.

He also adds that the streaming service was originally announced about a year ago, after a couple of years of being operated a music channel, but for some reasons it was delayed and now a streaming service has risen to pay artists royalties.

“It’s not clear yet how large 9janimi Channels music catalog is, or how well it will do, though its sure to resonate with artists who are finding the models used by Spotify and others as unfairly stripping them of much of their earnings,” Iyere added.

  • 9janimi Channel takes operations abroad

FOLLOWING its successful launch a few months back, indigenous music streaming and download platform, 9janimi Channel, one of Nigeria’s online music and videos distribution platforms, has taken its operations to Ghana, and the United States of America.

The founder of the music streaming site, Soltesh Iyere, says it has also partnered with Bashro Beats in the UK to deliver it service over there. Iyere said that the expansion became necessary when it discovered that there is a growing thirst for Nigerian music, especially with music fans in the Diaspora showing a clear preference for accessing music via their mobile devices.

Describing the channel as an online music streaming and downloading platform that has been serving a model of predominantly free Nigerian Music and Videos, he said that the Diaspora launch was greeted with enthusiasm by lovers of Nigerian music .

“9janimi is a Nigerian Yoruba term which simply means ‘I Am Nigerian’ and that represents our singular core value. Our desire is to offer quality service, and excellent customer satisfaction for the content we provide and that is why we have decided to expand our operations,” Iyere said.

In his opinion, the idea of music streaming has become inevitable, bringing the music industry under pressure because of this shift by music fans.

“We are a brand passionately powered by music, driven by culture and fueled by its audience. The channel is part of a relentless contribution to the growth of the music industry and how its success has tremendously raised Nigeria`s image on the international scene and at home in recent times,” he adds.

The platform, he said, is passionately powered by music with full support from United State based PR firm, The Media 360 Company providing financial resources in funding the streaming and download services.
