  • Kano partners UNICEF to tackle malnutrition

    Kano state government in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) spent N350 Million last year, as intervention against malnutrition amongst children under five years, which UNICEF provided the same amount as marching fund.

    Another sum of N338 Million is also injected this year to counter the disturbing scourge of malnutrition in the state, of which UNICEF promises to also provide another marching fund for the same purpose.

    Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated this during an official launching of Kano State Comprehensive Modelling Project on Improvement of Diatery Diversity in the State .

    “We have all the kinds of food we need in our society for our consumption. All we need to do to run away from this health problem, is the knowledge of how to use such varieties. Which necessitates for awareness creation among our people,” he charged.

    A statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Abba Anwar said Ganduje urged stakeholders to put all hands on the deck to save the situation, emphasizing that, “Government is doing its best to continue liaising with all stakeholders, particularly traditional leaders, development partners and others, so as to checkmate the problem once and for all.”

    The governor acknowledges that, “This problem is with us, it is within us, it is a problem that we can solve and we must solve it. That is why we need to put heads and hands together and fight the painful scourge of malnutrition. All we need is commitment, persistence, public enlightenment and diligence.”

    Dangote Foundation according to the governor promised to provide over N1 Billion as intervention along that area of curbing malnutrition in the state.

    In her remarks the UNICEF Zonal Officer, Katsina, Miss Zohra Nissi, said the choice of Kano for the project was deliberate, looking at the efforts the state is making these years in curbing the disease.

    She added “This is a unique project which we are starting in Kano. As such the choice of Kano is deliberate. We choose Kano also because of the commitment of the state.”

    Nissi revealed that, “We need multi-sectoral approach in dealing with this problem. The sum injected in this project is $750,000. We will provide all the necessary technical support for the project.”

    The project started with Bichi and Sumaila as pilot local governments, which included traditional leaders who come from the areas. It was revealed that they started with the two local governments after sometime all other local governments would be included.

  • Ganduje reaffirms commitment to anti-graft fight in Kano

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration toward the fight against corruption in the state.

    A statement by Malam Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor issued on Tuesday in Kano, said Ganduje made the remark at the graduation ceremony of postgraduate students of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria ( ICPC ), in Keffi, Nassarawa State.

    He said his administration would continue to prioritise the fight against corruption which had been identified as the bane of development in the country.

    According to him, the state government would also continue to support the anti-graft agency with a view to enabling it to discharge its responsibilities effectively.

    The governor, who was represented at the occasion by the Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad Awwal-Na’iya, however, said the pursuit of this cardinal objective required collaborative efforts between the Federal, States and local governments.

    “We must tackle this menace to ensure good governance through prudent management of resources, transparency and accountability.

    “The meaningful development projects and programmes are made possible through blocking of leakages and optimum utilisation of the meager resources, as opposed to what was obtained in the past,’’ he said.

    The governor urged the participants to make the best use of the knowledge they acquired to ensure the success of the crusade in the state and the country at large.

    In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Mr Muhiyi Magaji, reiterated his commitment to build a strong institution.

    He pledged to continue to give priority attention to training and retraining of staff of the commission, in addition to providing adequate facilities to enhance their performance.

    A staff of the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Isa Mansur-Bello, emerged the best student in the recently-concluded one month training programme at the Academy.

  • Kano civil servants endorse Ganduje for second term

    Kano State Civil Servants yesterday endorsed the second coming of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, saying that he has performed creditably well in transforming the State into a mega city, within three years of his administration.

    In a press statement, issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, said the State Head of Service, Muhammad Auwal Na’Iya, in company of all the Permanent Secretaries in the state, including all Heads of government departments and agencies, were at the Government House to deliver their message on behalf of the rank and file that they have endorsed Ganduje for second term.

    At the solidarity meeting, held at Africa House, Government House, Kano, Na’Iya, enumerated most of his achievements, to include promotion of workers, prompt payment of salaries, as well as training and re-training programmes, among others.

    within the state civil service that were possible with the coming of Ganduje into the corridors of power.

    “We are appreciative of your effort in abolishing the dichotomy between Degree and HND holders in the state civil service and at the same time, we are grateful for improving healthcare delivery system for the workers in the state,”.

    Also, the workers hailed Ganduje for the promotion, backlog from 2013-2018, adding that :”We are paid our salary promptly and have no cause to complain because he took care of our welfare.

    According to the Head of Service, over 5,000 workers have so far benefited from training and retraining programmes, in the area of acquiring ICT skills.

    “Over N500 Million free-interest loan was disbursed by this administration to civil servants, so as to boost their our morale in curtailing some major problems. We really don’t have much to say but to support your Your Excellency,”.

    After enumerating his achievements, Na’Iya disclosed that: “I am saying this on behalf of all the civil servants in the state, that, we are in total support of your ambition, come 2019 election. We are supporting you and we shall continue to support you Sir. You did so many things to us, which warrant for our total support and appreciation.”

    Responding, Governor Ganduje assured workers that he would continue to ensure the progress and development of the state civil service.

    “I want to assure you that, you are partners in progress. Hence, we must continue to do things that would boost your morale to work harder and strengthen your capacity through training and retraining,” Ganduje assured.

    He acknowledged that civil service was the backbone of any government, adding that there is the need to render the necessary support that would assist you in putting in your best towards the development of the state.

  • Ganduje procures land for FG gas project

    Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullai Umar Ganduje has issued a notice of land acquisition in line with the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978 LFN CAP 202, to allow for land for the execution of the Federal Government’s Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline Project starting from Ajaokuta-Abuja-Kaduna-Kano (AAKK) section.

    According a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary,  Alhaji Abba Anwar, Ganduje issued the notice on the 21st of April, 2018, in which he referred that, “pursuant to the power conferred on me by Section 28 (1) of the Land Use Act of 1978 (LFN CAP 202), the Governor of Kano State hereby revoke all existing Statutory or Customary Right of Occupancy on the said parcel of land, more particular described in the schedule hitherto with effect from the date of this notice.”

    To assure all those affected by the Federal Government project of quick and effective compensation, the Governor assured that, “the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is willing to pay compensation in respect to crops, building structures and unexhausted improvement on the land in accordance with Section 29 of the Land Use Act 1978.”

    The affected land areas where this developmental project goes through are Tarau-Gwarzo road, Crossing of Chiromawa River, Chiromawa Garun Malam road, Crossing Tamburawa River and other areas that include Crossing of 33KVA High Tension (TNGS0451R), amongst others.

    It was observed that, the project would bring much development to Kano state, where the mega gas pipeline project will be established. That the state failing industries would have an effective window through which those industries would be reinvigorated.

    Anwar noted that such opportunity according to investigation would apart, from making gas more available in the state; it would also create more employment opportunities for Kano people. It would at the same time boost modern industrial development and expansion in the state.

    The statement added that, “Governor Ganduje has been liaising very well with the NNPC for an effective and immediate take-off, in a hasten manner, for the people to benefit immensely so as to provide more employment opportunities for the people and for a proliferation of other businesses surrounding an industrial development.

    “Not only would the states where the pipeline project would pass through, other neighbouring states of Kogi Abuja and Kaduna also benefit immensely from the people-oriented project. States like Nassarawa, Benue, Plateau, Katsina, Jigawa amongst others would feel the multiplier effect of the federal government’s development scheme.”

    To help the process being implemented without any hindrance governor warned that, “any person who shall willingly hinder or obstruct the government or any person employed by the Government from continuing with possession of the said parcel of land or any part thereof is liable under provision of the Act above mentioned, on conviction to a fine of N5, 000 (five thousand Naira) only or to imprisonment for three months.”

    With the sole intention to prevent false claims of lands that the new gigantic project affects, Ganduje warned that, “any person who makes any false claim in respect of the parcel of land to the State Governor shall be guilty of an offence under provisions of the Act above mentioned and liable on conviction to imprisonment for one year or to a fine of N5, 000, (Five Thousand Naira) only.”

  • Kano, World Bank sign MoU to construct 500Kilo roads in rural areas

    Kano State Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Bank to construct 500 kilometres of roads in rural areas of the state.

    ln a statement by the  Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ganduje, Abba Anwar and made available to newsmen in Kano on Monday, said the roads would be constructed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.

    The statement further said that the state Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Musa Kwankwaso, indicated during an inspection tour of projects by the governor that each of the 44 local government areas would have 10 kilometres.

    It said that the roads were meant to open up rural communities for enhanced social and economic development.

    The statement added that the state government had since established Rural Access Mobility Directorate to institutionalize the project and ensure its sustainability in line with global best practices.

    It said: “While the World Bank intervention concentrates on both rural roads and mobility of agricultural products from within rural communities to urban areas, the state programme lays emphasis on the rural roads; accessibility to rural communities.

    “With the RAAMP intervention, each and every local government in Kano state would get not less than 10 km road, whereas its equivalent could follow as a result of the state government replicated effort.”

    However, Ganduje pledged to ensure the provision of basic amenities and infrastructure to rural communities across the state for inclusive growth.

    Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Bank to construct 500 kilometres of roads in rural areas of the state.

    A statement by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, made available to newsmen in Kano on Monday, said the roads would be constructed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project ( RAAMP ).

    The statement said that the state Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Musa Kwankwaso, indicated during an inspection tour of projects by the governor that each of the 44 local government areas would have 10 kilometres.

    It said that the roads were meant to open up rural communities for enhanced social and economic development.

    Ganduje urges Nigerians in Diaspora to invest in Nigeria

    Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has called on the Nigerian Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture ( KACCIMA ) to woo Nigerians in the Diaspora to come and invest in the country.

    The appeal was made in a statement by Alhaji Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor in Kano on Friday.

    He said Ganduje made the call when Coalition of Northern Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, paid him a courtesy visit in Kano.

    According to him, the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, received the delegation on behalf of the governor at the Government House.

    “Nigerians in Diaspora can comfortably come and invest in the country for the economic growth and development of the country,” he said.

    Ganduje said it was high time for the chambers of commerce to serve as channels through which those in Diaspora could return home and invest.

    “There are huge funds lying there with Nigerians residing in those countries,” Ganduje said.

    He assured that Kano State Government would receive any serious investor ready for business, adding that “when you follow this way, I am sure there will be significant improvement in that area”.

    “As Kano and Lagos states make difference in the way of paving way for ease of doing business, the two states have already contributed immensely to the national index.”

    While commending them for the cordial relationship existing between the Coalition and the state government, the governor said it was the cardinal point of his administration since 2015 to develop the economy through partnership with the private sector.

    “We believe in public and private partnership, hence our decision to work with private investors to develop the state economy,” Ganduje said.

    In her remarks, the leader of the delegation, Hajiya Sa’adatu Iya, said Kano had been a strong pillar in the development of the association.

    She urged the government to revive the industries that had gone moribund for many decades, to boost economic growth and development in the state.

    She said the team was in Kano for the 31st Conference of the association to discuss issues related to the development of the body and chart a new course for its survival.
