Justice Rahman Oshodi held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt the two-count charge of adduction and defilement against Hudu.

The convict was sentenced to two years in prison on count one and life imprisonment on count two.

“Her father could not eat and her mother cried incessantly, sick with worry over their missing child. The callous disregard you showed for a child’s well-being, the emotional torment inflicted on her parents is shocking.

“Worse still, during those three days, you repeatedly defiled and sexually assaulted this vulnerable young girl at the tender age of 10.

“She experienced unthinkable trauma and violation at your hands, which no child should ever have to endure and her innocence was stolen.

“Throughout this trial, you have shown no remorse; you lied blatantly in your testimony, denying the clear evidence against you, including your prior statement to the police.

The magistrate granted the exparte motion for the suspects to be remanded in prison custody brought before the court by counsel to the prosecutor, SP Edosa Ufumwen.

Ufumwen had argued that the exparte motion was in pursuant to Section 290 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of the state.

This position was challenged by defendants counsel, Mustapha Igweshi, who argued his clients were entitled to bail.

He insisted that by Section 36 of 1999 Constitution, defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to bail.

The prosecutor, while arguing against bail said “the defence counsel has no right of audience as the application before the court was made exparte.

“Secondly, since Section 12 of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of the state has stripped the court of jurisdiction, the court cannot grant bail but remand them as enshrined in Section 290 of ACJL of Cross River State.”

The magistrate ordered the suspects remanded in Correctional Service and adjourned the matter to September 25.

     on the bail admissibility.

  • Man accused of abducting, raping American

Man, Matthew Adedoyin, 40, was yesterday paraded by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), for allegedly abducting and raping an American woman he met on social media.

Paraded alongside Adedoyin was his alleged accomplice, Idowu Ayeni. The duo were arrested at 7, Akanbi Street, Abule Egba in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos where the victim, Tawanda Jackson, 46, was rescued around 2am.

DSS Director Mrs. Betty Adoki said the raid of the suspected criminals’ hideout was carried out in collaboration with the operatives of 9 Brigade.

Adedoyin was alleged to have lured the victim to Lagos on November 11 under the guise of being a wealthy prince. He received her at the airport.

According to Adoki, the suspect told Jackson, a mother of five, whom he met on a dating site that he was a wealthy prince from Arogbatesu royal family of Ile-Ife in Osun State.

Adedoyin, Adoki said, pretended to be an exporter of ginger and bitter cola, adding that he told the American that he had large plantation of cocoa and palm oil with many slaves working for him.

The DSS boss said the victim’s release followed a complaint from the United States Consulate, Lagos that she was abducted on November 21.

The suspect allegedly raped her several times, seized her international passport and credit cards.

Adedoyin, who claimed to be a real estate agent, denied the allegations of abduction and rape, insisting that they had sex on her request.

He said she flew to Nigeria to marry him and that he lodged her in a hotel on her arrival.

The suspect said he moved her to his friend’s house to stay pending when he could raise money for her return ticket to the United States.

He denied seizing the victim’s passport, claiming that he took it from her for safe keeping.

Ayeni said he was uncomfortable when Adedoyin brought the victim to his house and had no concrete plans of when they intended to leave.

Ayeni, who said he works as a litigation officer with a law firm, denied having anything to do with the suspect’s plans. He said his involvement was allowing them to squat for a few days in his home.

  • Cele ‘prophet’ flogged for allegedly abducting, impregnating 10-yr-old

A man described as a prophet of a Celestial Church of Christ parish in the Ilashe area of Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, identified simply as Woli Michael was penultimate week flogged for allegedly abducting and impregnating a 10-year-old girl in the community.

It was learnt that Michael, a native of Ondo State, abducted the minor in February this year and had sexually abused her for months leading to pregnancy.

A source said that Michael had hidden the girl in his house despite a search party launched for her whereabouts by the community leaders, which was known to him.

‘’Prophet Michael seized the girl in February and kept him in his house and impregnated her. He had somehow hypnotised the girl to the extent that she would hide from her schoolmates whenever they passed through the area where Prophet Michael’s house is located.’’

‘’The girl was however spotted by his parents on April 29, 2018, while she was sweeping the compound where she was kept.

‘’The girl told his parents that she was kept in the house by Prophet Michael and she was discovered to be pregnant for him.’’

The matter was reported to the monarch of the community, who ordered that Prophet Michael be arrested to no avail on that day.

The culprit was however arrested on April 30, where he was stripped naked and openly flogged at monarch’s palace before he was banished from the community.

The punishment given to the cleric however generated controversy as residents considered it to be too light for his misconduct.

A resident, Oluwole, however said the errant prophet was handed over to the police.

‘’ People were just unnecessarily angry that the flogging and banishment are too light. The man was eventually handed over to the police in order to face the wrath of the law for abducting and impregnating a minor.’’

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi could not be reached for comment on his mobile phone at press time.

  • Policeman detained for ‘abducting, raping’ teenager

The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal has ordered the detention of a policeman, Sergeant Henry Ataneh accused of abducting, raping a teenager, Chinelo Obadike last May 8.

Ataneh’s detention followed a fresh investigation ordered by Edgal after our Correspondent brought the incident to his attention.

The police boss had directed the Gender Unit of the command to take over the case from the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), invite the parties with a view to establish the veracity of the rape, pregnancy and abduction allegations against the Sergeant.

However, fresh information obtained yesterday from Crime Victims Foundation (CRIVIFON) indicated that Obadike might have been pregnant before the cop abducted, raped her, since she was delivered of the baby on October 26, last year.

A Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test, which would state the paternity of the child, it was gathered, was yet to be conducted because a civilian suspected to be responsible for the pregnancy was yet to be arrested.

Our correspondent had reported some weeks ago that the victim was abducted by Ataneh, who forced her on his motorcycle, took her to a hotel, raped her and finally took her to his house, where she was turned into a maid and a sex slave for about 18 days.

Obadike fled the home after stealing N10,000 and Ataneh’s mobile phone said to have fallen off his pocket while he was raping her the previous night.

The case however took a different turn when the policeman, who was then serving at Ojo Division, reported at FSARS that Obadike stole his N1.5million, prompting operatives to track the victim to her hometown in Umuoji in Anambra.

According to the Founder, CRIVIFON, Mrs. Gloria Egbuji, “it was discovered that though Chinelo was abducted by Sergeant Ataneh Henry and reportedly turned into sex slave, her pregnancy had occurred before the abduction by Henry.

“This was confirmed by her delivery of a baby last October 26 barely six months after the said abduction. It was then suspected that the beer parlour man, who dated her before Henry abducted her may be the father of the child.

“However, Edgal has ordered orderly room trial for the policeman on suspected offence of abduction and rape, which is a serious one.  The police boss has directed the provost to try the Sergeant and sentence him accordingly to serve as a deterrent for other policemen, who may want to follow the same path.”

Chef gets six months for abducting maid

A Karmo Area Court in Abuja yesterday sentenced a chef, Marcel Gouta, to six months’ imprisonment for abducting a house-help.

Gouta,  of Mpape village, Abuja, was convicted on a one count charge of abduction.

He pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N20, 000 fine.

Sadiq said the punishment would have been stiffer, if the convict had not saved the court the pains of a protracted prosecution.

He warned him to be of good behaviour.

The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, told the court that on February 18, Okougbegun Boroni, of Yhuguttle Estate, Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station.

He said on February 17, about 9 am, the complainant sent her house-help to Mararaba in Nassarawa State to invite her mother to her school.

Zannah said the convict formed a criminal intention and took the house-help to Mpape without the consent of the complainant.

He added that the convict was subsequently arrested and during police investigation he made a confessional statement.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 387 of the Penal Code.

The accused is facing a two-count charge of abduction and fraud.

Prosecuting Sergeant Christopher Okoliko said the accused committed the offence with others still at large at Suru-Alaba in Orile-Iganmu on August 19 around 12pm

According to him, the accused walked up to the girl and presented himself as an importer, who is in search of the place where his goods are kept.

Okoliko said: “The girl, who was sent to the bank by her boss, described how he can get to Cele Bus Stop in Okota, Lagos. The man insisted that she should take him to the place claiming that he was new in Lagos. Suddenly, a man, who is also an accomplice, came to meet the girl, pretending that he did not know the man, suggested that they should accompany the man to the place.

“The girl accepted the offer and they boarded a bus heading to Cele Bus Stop. When they alighted from the bus, they told the girl that they should take a bus heading to Ejigbo, but the girl insisted that she cannot help again.

“When they were at Cele Bus Stop, a man, who noticed that something was fishy, went to a nearby police station to report,’’ Okoliko said.

Drama as Police parade Oyo NURTW chief for allegedly abducting, raping mother of two

THE Vice-chairman of Gbagi branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)‎ Oyo State branch, Alhaji Saheed Tijani aka ‘Omo Olomo’, has been arrested by the Oyo State police command for raping a 28-year-old woman.

The suspect and his cohorts allegedly abducted the victim, Abosede, around 9 pm on Monday, April 4, 2016, while returning home from work.

The state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade disclosed this while parading the suspect and others at the command headquaters, Eleyele, Ibadan on Friday.

According to the police boss, the victim was subdued by the ferocious men who threatened her ‎with a knife, despite her cries for help.

“Having successfully threatened her to submission, she was abducted in the most brazen, commando-like manner and forcibly taken to an hotel where she was drugged and subsequently mercilessly raped till the next day. Soon, the suspect and his accomplice went underground to evade arrest.

“Consequent upon the report made to ‎police, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the command commenced a manhunt for the suspects. After several days of diligent investigation, the rapist was arrested in his hideout somewhere in Ibadan. The suspect has since confessed to the crime,” the police boss said.

Oyebade said investigation revealed that Omo Olomo, until his arrest, was a pain in the neck of innocent citizens, especially women who he has raped in the past.

“The suspect’s illicit sexual escapade was known to many in the Iwo road area, but the victims could not report due to stigmatization and fear of attack by the suspect who was dreaded. This has also earned him suspension from the union on many occasions.”

While speaking with The Nation, Omo Olomo denied raping Abosede. He maintained that the sex was consensual and based on mutual agreement between him and Abosede.

“We are friends and we are having an affair. I did not rape her, she agreed to do it and I give her money whenever we have sex. I am surprised with this allegation she levelled against me,” Omo Olomo said.

However, Abosede insisted that she never met Omo Olomo before the alleged rape took place, maintaining that she was never the suspect’s friend.

“He raped me and warned me not to report him to anybody. He said he would kill me if I did. But I summoned courage and reported him to the police. I have two kids now and my husband has chased me out of the house because of the incident.”
