    IBB visits Kure’s family

    Former military President Ibrahim Babangida on Monday visited and condoled with the family of late Governor of Niger, Abdulkadir Kure, who died on Jan. 8 in Germany at the age of 60 years.

    “I have known Abdulkadir for over three decades. I first knew him as a young engineer and an administrator.

    “He later became a political leader. His trajectory was one of a steady rise.

    “He grew to become my friend and a confidant. He was of course always a brother,” Babangida said during the visit.

    The former president described the late Kure as “simple, humble, honest, brilliant, dexterous and unflinchingly loyal”.

    “Personally, I learnt a lot from him and thought he would continue to be an inspiration in more years to come. But his demise has come as a big, sad blow to me.

    He will be tremendously missed. I hope and pray for the healing from the enormous pain caused by this sad event will come from Allah.

    “This is my solace. I am consoled also by the very comforting testament of the life he lived and led.”

    Babangida said that several people had testified that he lived a righteous life and “when we are before Allah, the testimony he got following his death, we hope, will earn him Allah’s mercy, Insha Allah”.

    “May Allah forgive his all shortcomings; reward his good deeds and admit him into Aljannat Firdaus.”

    NAN reported that Babangida was accompanied on the visit by his son and daughter, Muhammad and Aisha and was received on the visit by Alhaji Umar Kure, the son of the late governor.

  • Jonathan visits Kure’s family

    Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday described the death of former Governor of Niger, Abdulkadir Kure, as great loss and shocking.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that former President while extolling the virtues of late Kure at the family residence in Minna, said “it is a very sad moment for us.”

    “There are burials and there are burials, there are deaths and there are deaths. One day all of us that are mortal beings will surely leave the earth.

    “He left us at a very young age and at a time the ovation is about to be loudest. Within a short lifespan, he has impacted the society significantly.”

    He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would miss Kure greatly, saying that in PDP, he was one of the pillars of the party and also a member of the Board of Trustees.

    “That is why almost all our members in the country were around during the burial,” the former President said.

    Jonathan further prayed the Almighty God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

    Among those in the ex-President’s entourage are former Minister of the FCT, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, former Minister of Special Duties, Malam Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode.

    Others were former leader, House of Representatives, Mrs. Mulikat Akande, and former Minister of State (Finance), Malam Bashir Yuguda.

    The remains of former Governor of Niger, Abdulkadir Kure,  was laid to rest on Wednesday in Minna, the Niger state capital.

    Kure died on Sunday, Jan. 8, in a private hospital in Germany at the age of 60 years.

    The burial prayer was led by Chief Imam of Minna Central Mosque, Sheik Isa Fari.

    Due to the unprecedented crowd, the body of late Kure could not be brought out of the ambulance as the funeral prayer was conducted.

    The funeral was attended by Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger, former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, DIG Shuaibu Gambo, Emir of Bida, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago, Emir of Minna, Nuhu Bahago and the Emir of Suleja, Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim.

    Also at the funeral were the Speaker, Niger House of Assembly, members of the Niger executive council, National Assembly members, top government officials, as well and politicians.

    Former Governor of Niger, Babangida Aliyu, Sheikh Ahmed Lemu, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, Sen. David Mark, and former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim were also at the funeral, among others.

    In his tribute, Gov. Bello of Niger said the people would continue to be proud of the deceased’s contributions to the development of the state and the country in general.

    He said the deceased had offered useful advice to the government and people of Niger on how to move the state forward.

    The governor added that “we share things in common èven though we belong to different political parties because he has the interest of Niger at heart.

    “He was honest, humble, committed, sincere and complete gentleman and ever
    willing to help his country, state and community when he held various public offices.

    “We will continue to pray for the deceased for his tremendous contributions to the socio-economic and political development of our state.”

    Late Kure left behind one wife and six children.

  • Jonathan mourns Kure

    Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commiserated with the family of former Governor of Niger State, Abdulkadir Kure, who died on Sunday.

    He described the late former Governor as a committed and principled democrat.

    Jonathan made this known in a message of condolence to the deceased’s immediate family and the Government of Niger State.

    In a statement issued by Ikechukwu Eze, the former President’s media adviser, Jonathan also described Kure as a dedicated Muslim.

    The message reads: “I am deeply saddened by the passage to eternal glory, of the former Governor of Niger State, Engr. Abdulkadir Kure, who died yesterday (Sunday) at the age of 60.

    “Kure distinguished himself in public service before joining politics where his candor and selflessness set him apart.

    “He was indeed a committed and highly principled democrat and an exemplary devotee who was true to his belief, both in worship and appeal.

    “He will be missed by the Government and good people of Niger State, his political associates and the rest of the country. May the Almighty grant him al Jannah Firdaus.”

    PDP zoning: Group canvasses support for Kwara

    A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwara PDP Support Group KSG has appealed to North Central Zone Leadership of the party  to concede its slots of  the National Publicity Secretary to Kwara State on the basis of equity and justice.
    Leader of the PDP group, Olanrewaju Olokode urges party leaders and stakeholders in the North Central to graciously reconsider the zoning arrangement of party’s National Publicity Secretary in favour of Kwara State.
    Olokode also urges the leaders and stakeholders to prevail on the Benue State leadership  by reasons and brotherliness to concede the  National Publicity Secretary slot to Kwara State, PDP.
    He said that Benue State had for 8 years enjoyed the Senate Presidency, a slot zoned to the North Central Geo-political zone under the PDP arrangement.
    “Also, in the 2011 and 2015 Presidential Elections the Benue State produces the Zonal Coordinator, then Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswan. Benue has had a good fair share of North Central Zone States collective stake, Kwara state should been given this slot in  spirit of friendly relationship, equity, justice and good political calculation ahead of 2019 election.”
    Olokode said the position will also rally members and supporters of the party together for a reinvigorated and strong PDP in Kwara State ahead of 2019.
    The PDP group also appealed to Professor  Jerry Gana, Senator David Mark, Alhaji Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Senator Jonah Jang, Ex-Governors Gabriel Suswan, Idris Wada, Abdulkadir Kure, Babangida Aliyu and all other key Stakeholders that have influence to support the Kwara State PDP in its quest to produce a vibrant National Publicity Secretary for the party.

  • Ex-governor Kure loses mum

    The mother of former Niger State Governor Abdulkadir Kure, Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Salihu, died yesterday. She was 85.

    She was buried in her hometown, Lapai, at 3:30pm after a five-minute prayer led by the Chief Imam of Lapai, Sheik Bashir Mohammed, at the palace of Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Tafida Bago.

    Former military president Gen Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar and Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu joined sympathisers at the prayers before the body was interred.

    Also present were the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Emirs of Suleja and Agaie, a delegation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Senator Ibrahim Musa, Abubakar Magaji, Abubakar Sani Bello and David Umaru.

    She is survived by three children.
