  • Man docked over rape of 31-year-old woman

    The Police in Ogun State on Tuesday docked a 40-year-old man, Olalekan Yinka, before an Ota Magistrates’ Court over the alleged rape of a woman, aged 31.

    Yinka, who lives at 16, Igbele Durojaiye Street, Ota, is facing a count charge of rape, to which he pleaded not guilty.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha told the court that accused allegedly raped the lady at his residence on Dec. 2, at 9.30 p.m.

    Mustapha said that the offence contravened Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    Chief Magistrate Matthew Akinyemi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N140, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

    In addition, the sureties should also show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government, as part of the bail conditions.

    He adjourned the case until January 7, for further hearing.

  • Seven suspected cultists docked in Ogun

    Seven suspected secret cult members were on Monday brought before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State.

    The accused are Shobande Akeem, 28, Sunday David, 32, Quwin Jese, 21, Ismaila Raheem, 25, Abiodun Ajifolawe, 25, Ibrahim Adetunji, 25, and Segun Adeola, 33.

    They are facing trial on a two-count charge of membership of unlawful society and breach of peace.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 30 at about 4.30 p.m at Old Palace area, Ota.

    Mustapha said that the accused and their accomplices belonged to “Aiye Confraternity”.

    According to him, they conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening the community with dangerous weapons like axes and cutlasses.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 249(b) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    Chief Magistrate Mathew Akinyemi granted each of the accused bail of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akinyemi said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    Akinyemi adjourned the case until Jan. 7 for hearing.

  • Woman docked over alleged N1.4m theft

    A 32-year-old man, Chima Ebirim, was on Monday arraigned in Ota, Ogun State over alleged  theft of N 1.4 million.

    Ebirim, who lives at No. 5, Adeniyi Street, Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a count charge of stealing before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court, but he pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused stole the sum from Mr Adolphus Ezia on Feb. 15, 2016, at Dalemo, Ota.

    Mustapha said that the accused collected a Toyota Hiace from Ezia on hire purchase, and promised to be on paying N30,000 weekly but failed to fulfill it.

    “The money generated so far by the accused was N1.4 million which he converted to personal use and refuse to give to the complainant,” he said.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 421 of the Criminal Code , Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akinyemi said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    He  adjourned the case until Jan. 16 for hearing.

  • Two men docked for theft

    Two men, Philadelphia David, 18, and Adeyeye Ezekiel, 22, were on Thursday docked before an Ota Magistrates ‘ Court in Ogun over alleged breaking in and stealing.

    The accused of no fixed address are facing a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 21 at about 3.00a.m at Sunshine Wabhar, Ota.

    Mustapha said that the accused broke into the house of the complainant, Aladegboye Adebodun and stole N150, 000 cash and other valuable items worth N247, 700.

    “The accused were caught by members of the vigilance group around the area and handed them over to the police,” he said.

    Mustapha said that offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the accused bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    He adjourned the case until Jan. 3 for trial.

  • Ten docked in Ogun for allegedly belonging to secret cult

    Ten suspected secret cult members were on Tuesday brought before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    The accused are Muyideen Ijiade, 29; Olueaseyi Oluwole, 23; Jamiu Saka, 20; Ajayi Iyayi, 21; Ismaila Ibrahim, 23; Olayinka Muyideen, 17; and Olalekan Mudasiru, 20.

    Others are Toheeb Yunusa, 18; Jimon Azeez, 17; and Toheeb Adelowo, 19.

    The accused are facing a three-count charge of membership of an unlawful society, conspiracy and breach of peace.

    According to the Police Prosecutor, Abdulkareem Mustapha, the accused committed the offences on Nov. 24 at about 9.55p.m. at Ijamido Town Hall, Arigbabu Area, Ota.

    Mustapha told the court that the accused all belong to Aiye Confraternity.

    He said the accused, who also assembled at Ijamido area, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by violently attacking themselves with dangerous weapons such as locally made gun and cutlass.

    The offences, he said, contravened Sections 80, 39 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Chief Magistrate Mathew Akinyemi, in his ruling, granted each of the accused N200, 000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

    Akinyemi said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.

    He adjourned the case till Jan. 3, 2019.

  • Man docked over alleged rape of 21-year-old

    The police on Monday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Saheed Babatunde, before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over alleged rape of a 21-year-old lady.

    Babatunde, who lives at 26 Ogundele Street, Oloko, Ota, is facing a count charge of rape, but he pleaded not guilty.

    The accused raped the lady at his residence on November 13, at 10.30 p.m., according to the prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha.

    Mustapha said that the offence contravened Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    Chief Magistrate Matthew Akinyemi granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until December 21 for substantive hearing.

  • Seven suspected cultists arraigned in Ogun

    Seven suspected secret cult members were on Monday arraigned in an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ota Ogun state.

    The accused are: Olaogun Azeez, 18, Tijani Azeez, 22, Jelili Adeniyi, 20, Sulaiman Owolabi, 24, Murainan Shakiru, 25, Tunde Olanisa, 22, and Abinuwaye Abraham, 25.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, said the seven were arraigned on a two-count charge of being members of unlawful society and causing breach of peace.

    Mustapha told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on Sept. 28, at about 12.00p.m. at Aniserere area, Ota.

    He alleged that the accused and their accomplices belonged to Aiye Confraternity.

    According to him, they conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening the community with dangerous weapons such as knives, axes and cutlasses.

    The offences, he said, contravened Sections 3, 249 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The News Agency of Nigeria, however, reports that the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    Chief Magistrate Matthew Akinyemi granted each of the accused bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akinyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.

    He, thereafter, adjourned the case to Dec. 12, for hearing.

  • Man, 42 arraigned over cult membership

    A 42-year-old man, Ogundare Lateef, was on Thursday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly belonging to a secret cult.

    Lateef was also caught with a double-barrel gun and three live cartridges, according to the prosecution.

    The accused, who lives at Bamidele Street, Oke-Ore, Ijoko near Ota, is being tried for conspiracy, membership of unlawful society and unlawful possession of firearms.

    Police Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha had told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on June 4 about 4.30 p. m. at Oke-Ore, Ijoko.

    The accused and his accomplices belong to a cult called “Aiye Confraternity”, he alleged.

    The offences contravened Sections 4, 43(b) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties.

    Chief Magistrate Matthew Akinyemi, who gave the ruling, said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    The case was adjourned until Aug. 22 for hearing.

    Court docked man for N.26m fraud

    A 49-year-old man, Ademola Adelesi, who allegedly collected N260,000 under false pretences to supply  three trucks of granite to one Olaide Oduwole was on Thursday docked  in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Adelesi, who lives in Tolani Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.

    The prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 27 at Canaan Land, Living Faith Church, Ota.

    Mustapha said that the defendant collected N260, 000 with the pretext of supplying three trucks of granite to Oduwole.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 383(1) and 419 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2017.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The chief magistrate, Mrs B. B. Adebowale, granted the defendant bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    She said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

    Adebowale also ordered that the sureties should provide evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.

    She adjourned the case until January 15, 2018 for hearing.

    10 men docked over unlawful possession of guns in Ogun

    The Police in Ogun on Monday arraigned 10 men at the Ota Magistrates ‘s Court over unlawful possession of guns.

    The accused persons include Tajudeen Toyin (60), Segun Bello (48) ,Lateef Monsuru (31) and seven others.

    They are standing trial on two-count charge of threat to life and unlawful possession of firearms.

    The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offences on November 9 at Kajola Village, Atan, Ota, Ogun.

    Abdulkareem said that the defendants were caught by the police with a locally made pistol and one live cartridge, without licence.

    He said that the offence contravenes Sections 248(d) and 249 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. B. Adebowale, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

    She said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

    Adebowale also said that the sureties should provide evidence of tax payments to the Ogun Government and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.

    She adjourned the case until January 17, 2018 for hearing.
