  • NSCDC sues for peace over death of personnel

    Following the death of Ochigbo Jumbo Ogar (ASCI), a Corps personnel formerly serving at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, the Commandant in charge of the command, Solomon Iyamu has appealed to his officers and men to take the incident as an act of God despite the fact that the unjust killing was perpetrated by men of a sister agency.

    He made the statement while addressing the personnel at his Wuse Zone 5, Office Abuja after receiving the Commissioner of Police FCT Command, Mr. Bala Ciroma who paid him a condolence visit to commiserate with the Commandant and his Officers and Men over the loss of one of their colleagues.

    According to a statement he personally signed, Iyamu commended the Commissioner of Police for his prompt response to the situation, which led to both of them visiting the Asokoro general hospital to get first-hard information of the incidence.

    The move, he said, led to the order of immediate detention of the Police officers involved in the heinous crime by the Commissioner of Police.

    He told the personnel the Commandant General has assured him that he is currently on top of the situation and the matter is being seriously addressed by the CG and the Inspector of General of Police, Alh. Abubukar Adamu with the resolve the perpetrators will be brought to book and the family will get justice.

    The Commandant stated the CG, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has also directed all personnel of the Corps to be law abiding and not consider any vindictive action.

    Iyamu said: “There is no alternative to peace. Therefore, all of you should continue to see the Police as our partners in progress with the mindset for cooperation and synergy towards achieving our common national goal.”

    NSCDC officers to check fuel hoarding nationwide

    The Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu on Monday disclosed that the corps had commenced deployment of personnel from all state command nationwide for proper surveillance of fuel supply across the country.

    He said the gesture was an effort to stem diversion of the product.

    Muhammadu who disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen in Abuja noted that the move was in line with the federal government’s resolve to tackle the issue of fuel diversion which has caused monumental hardship on Nigerians.

    According to him, “The diversion of the fuel remained a major challenge in the country and that is why the deployment of personnel in all state command across the country becomes imperative to put an end to the lingering fuel scarcity. The era of fuel diversion is over. This step will remain a continuous exercises till the situation is normalized. NSCDC is more determined to chase sabotage out of business including tanker drivers, independent and major oil marketers.”

    The CG stated that the latest arrangement between the corps and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu was to ensure that the corps station his men strategically across the country to ensure that every truck from the depots get to their final destinations, while efforts are in place to provide adequate tracking system to monitor the movement of trucks.

    He said the corps was also exploring new ways to monitor and protect pipelines, especially the use of technology and sophisticated gadgets to track down vandals. “I can assure you that we are already exploring new approaches which will include the massive deployment of technology as opposed to conventional approach.”

    The NSCDC boss, who decried the spate of oil diversion and oil theft in the country, said the corps was working round the clock to stem the tide.

    Muhammadu attributed illegal diversion to corruption in the country and act of economic sabotage by criminal elements.

    He stated that the act was driven by desperation for material acquisition at expense of Nigerians.

    The commandant-general while assuring that the NSCDC would continue to do its best to ensure the security of lives and property in line with its mandate called on the media, host communities and other stakeholders to cooperate with the NSCDC and other security agencies in tackling the menace.

    Security not for quacks, says new NSCDS boss

    The newly appointed Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has impressed on private security firms, the need to screen out quacks from the sector.

    Professionally trained security personnel, he said, should be allowed to handle the work of security.

    Private guard companies, he further stressed, ought to come together and set standards for others to emulate and learn from.

    The commandant general made this call when the management team of Brain and Braces paid a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja recently.

    “If a high standard is formed by all private guard companies, there will be no rooms for mediocre and quacks in the security system any longer.”

    Echoing similar sentiments, the Managing Director/CEO of Brain and Braces, Augusta Peter said all the suggestions made by the NSCDC boss was the way to go.

    She also pledged all her support to the corps, promising that she and her team were ready to work hands in hands with the corps with the aim of taking security industry to a greater height.

    To achieve this, Peter solicited the assistance of the NSCDC boss to collaborate with the private guards companies to raise the bar in the industry.

    Buhari appoints new NSCDC boss

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday approved the appointment of Mr. Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu as the new Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

    A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, said that Muhammadu  succeeded Dr. Ade Abolurin, who has retired from service.

    Muhammadu, who was an Assistant Commandant-General of the NSCDC before his new appointment, hails from Muye in Lapai local government area of Niger State.

    He holds a B.Sc degree in Sociology from the University of Sokoto, and a Masters in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

    “President Buhari wishes Dr. Abolurin a happy retirement,” the statement added.
