  • Sokoto donates Hajj seat, house to Eagles player, Shehu

    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state on Monday, honoured Super Eagles player, Abdullahi Shehu of Sokoto state origin with a donation of a hajj seat and a four bedroom house complex.

    Tambuwal announced the donation while receiving the star player who participated in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia at a courtesy visit he paid to the governor in Government House, Sokoto.

    The governor also directed the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing to identify a suitable land for the construction of a sports complex to be named after the Eagles player.

    The Governor appealed to the youths in the state to develop their skills and excel like Shehu while reminding them that sports has multiple benefits to their survival, adding that” It is a veritable business avenue and for health development”, among others.

    He further challenged them to be involved in sports rather than thuggery so as to legitimately earn a living and respect for selves which in turn would add value to the society.

    However, the governor said that Sokoto state was proud of him and assured him of Government’s continuous support and encouragement.

    Earlier, the Super Eagles player, Abdullahi Shehu thanked the Governor for his contributions to sports development in the state and assured of total support of youths to his Administration .

    Accordingly, Shehu while commending the Governor for his efforts at developing the education sector in the state, announced his determination to execute ‘Legacy Project’ (sports complex) in collaboration with philantropists in the state.

    The eagles player also informed the Governor of their plan to organize a charity football involving Super eagles players in Sokoto and called for the state government support and assistance.

    He also lauded the state government efforts at tackling the menace of drugs abuse among youths in the state.

    The climax of the visit was the presentation of a jersey to Governor Tambuwal with inscription of his traditional title of ‘ Matawalle’ by the Super eagles player.

  • JAMB worker’s suit for failure to tender condition of service

    National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Friday struck out a suit filed against the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), for failure of the claimant to tender terms and conditions of his service.

    The claimant, Abdullahi Shehu, approached the court to declare his dismissal unlawful,   reinstate him, as well as order payment of his salaries and entitlements.

    In her judgment, Justice Rakiya Haastrup, said the failure of the claimant to tender the said terms and conditions of service as material evidence of fact to determine whether or not his dismissal was unlawful has truncated his case.

    Haastrup further said, the inability of the claimant to present the condition of service made it difficult for the court to determine whether or not the conditions were breached in his dismissal.

    Mumini Hanafi, the claimant’s counsel told the court that his client’s dismissal was unlawful because his employment letter states that ” the board will review his employment from time to time”.

    Hanafi in addition said as at the time the claimant was dismissed, JAMB did not have a governing board, therefore, the terms and conditions of service as stipulated by his employment letter was breached.

    Adedoyin Adejunmobi, the defence counsel, in his submission said the claimant was dismissed over his engagement in unauthorised admission regulation exercise in 2016.

    He said that the claimant was issued a query, faced a disciplinary panel which indicted him and was subsequently dismissed from the service of the board.

    The news men recalls that a similar suit filed against JAMB by a dismissed worker was struck out on Tuesday by the same court over the failure of the claimant to tender his employment letter.

  • Eagles call up: I’ll silence my critics -Abdullahi Shehu

    União da Madeira’s Abdullahi Shehu has said his invitation to the Super Eagles is a dream come true, adding that he had always harbored the ambition of playing under coach Sunday Oliseh.

    There were raised eyebrows in some quarters over the invitation of Shehu, with suggestions that his call – up was fast-tracked especially as the midfielder has found playing opportunities difficult to come by in the Primeira Liga in the young season.

    But the former Kano Pillars star hopes to silence his critics next month and is hoping to get on the pitch in the friendlies against Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon.

    “I’m really happy over the invitation for the friendlies next month, ” Abdullahi Shehu said to allnigeriasoccer.com.

    “I can’t wait to get started playing under Oliseh, it has always been my dream and I’m ready to fight for my place.

    “I’m very sure the Super Eagles will win all the matches and I hope I will be in both games against DRC and Cameroon.”

    It may be wrong to call Abdullahi Shehu a rookie Super Eagles invitee, having travelled to the United States with the national team for a pre – World Cup friendly against Mexico but he was one of the five players that didn’t get match time.

    “I was in the list of players for the friendly against Mexico last year in the USA but I did not play,” said Shehu.

    The 22 – year – old Abdullahi Shehu represented the Flying Eagles at the 2013 FIFA Under 20 World Cup before starring for the Super Eagles at the African Nations Championship the following year.

    Abdullahi Shehu: Pillars will bounce back against AS Vita

    Midfielder Abdullahi Shehu says he is optimistic Kano Pillars will bounce back when they host AS Vita in the second leg clash of their crucial CAF Champions League match today.

    The new Super Eagles team A invitee missed the first leg clash owing to a visa hitch which saw the 10-man league champions defeated 3-1 in Sunday’s preliminary round first leg fixture at the Stade Tata Raphael in Kinshasa.

    Shehu, who was a member of the CHAN Eagles after the Presidential Reception Thursday, told Goal: ‘We’re aware of how crucial the game is as we need to advance to the next round. I believe we will bounce back playing at home in Kano. We’ll be fighting until the end and we can count on Kano fans to support the team to victory on Saturday (today).

    “We always knew they are good, and now they have to come to play in Kano where we will be difficult to beat in front of our home fans. We won’t give them any space. We are going to put them under pressure from the start, and then we will see how it finishes.

    “The most important thing is to keep putting pressure on AS Vita on Saturday. We have to keep scoring goals to get an advantage as we are destined to qualify,” the former Flying Eagles star said.

    In a related development, supporters are confident that Kano Pillars will turn the table against AS Vita.

    “Football is round, and I strongly believe that Kano Pillars will make a strong comeback this weekend,” Udoka Chukwu, a staunch supporter of Kano Pillars told Goal.

    Abdullahi Shehu, a Super Eagles midfielder said Coach Stephen Keshi’s pep talk helped to raise the level of the team’s performance in the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

    Shehu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Cape Town that the current harmony in the team was unique and that the team was like a family. The Kano Pillars FC player added that they had put the 1-2 defeat by Eagles of Mali behind.

    “That’s what motivated us to perform well in our remaining two games that we played, because when we lost the game the coach came to us and came by our side and talked to us. He encouraged us, ‘Hey boys, let’s do it; we can still do it; I believe in you; relax your minds and play your normal game; that’s football; put the loss behind you that game is gone. If you really want to go far in the tournament you have to improve your performance in the remaining two games.’ He always came to us to encourage us, ‘I believe in you.’ He always encourages us so that we will not let him down.’’

    Shehu added that the players were fully focused on the match against the Atlas Lions of Morocco today in Cape Town; which he described as a must-win match.
