    Monarch unveils rebuilt mosque to mark fifth anniversary

    Oniru of of Iru Land, Abdulwasiu Lawal, has unveiled a mosque on Palace Road, Lagos Isand, as part of activities marking his fifth coronation anniversary.

    The mosque was renovated by the monarch in fulfilment of his vision for an expanded place of worship for the area’s rapid urbanisation.

    Oba Lawal thanked Allah, Oniru-in-Council, his family and friends for their support.

    He urged the faithful to use this edifice to draw closer to God and to take ownership of the mosque, advising Muslims never to give up however their circumstances as they celebrate Eid al-Kabir.

    Balogun of Iru, Chief Abayomi Daramola, said the inauguration coincided with activities marking the fifth anniversary of the monarch.

    He congratulated the royal father, noting that blessings await those who build for God.

    Daramola also noted its record six-month completion time, believing prayers offered there will benefit Oniru’s family and  those who contributed.

    Justice Lawal Akapo of the Appeal Court hailed the Oniru for creating a conducive place of worship.

    He said the Oniru was continuing a family legacy, as the his ancestors were the first to build a mosque on Lagos Island

    Iru/Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman, Alhaja Rashidat Adu,  praised the Oniru and his wife, Olori Mariam.

    She said the reconstruction was a transformation and a sign of greater things for the kingdom.

    Mr. Kola Abiola, son of the late winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election,   Chief MKO Abiola, was  among those, who witnessed Quranic recitations and a tour of the mosque.

    At the event were royal fathers, clerics, council officials.
