  • Driver gets N500,000 bail over theft of 2 truck tyres

    An Abeokuta Magistrates Court on Friday granted N500,000 bail to a 23-year-old driver, Lukeman Muhammed, who allegedly stole two truck tyres from his employer, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

    Magistrate Sam Obaleye also ordered the defendant to produce two sureties in like sum as part of the bail conditions.

    Obaleye said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

    Muhammed, who has no fixed address, is facing a charge of stealing.

    He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Adejoke Adebari, had told the court that the defendant, committed the offence on June 3, at 2.00p.m. at Olomore area of Abeokuta.

    He said that the tyres worth N240,000.

    Adebari said that the defendant was employed as a truck driver by the CCECC which attached to him a truck with registration no KJA-402 XW.

    He said that the defendant intentionally removed two original tyres of the truck and replaced them with fake tyres, in contravention of Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.

    The court adjourned the case until July 16, for trial.

    Man remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing son

    An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 30-year-old man, Oyapidan Joshua, in prison for allegedly stabbing his son with a knife.

    The accused, who resides on Sagamu road, Abeokuta, is facing a one-count charge of manslaughter.

    The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 15 at about 9:30 pm on Sagamu road.

    Eigbejiale said the accused attempted to kill his son by stabbing him with a knife on the neck and stomach.

    The prosecutor said the accused had claimed his act was not intentional and had attributed   it to the devil.

    The offence, he added, contravened Sections 320 and 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adelaja, ordered that the accused person to be remanded in prison pending receipt of  legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions .

    Adelaja adjourned the case till Sept.1 for hearing.

    Man gets N250,000 bail for stealing N62, 000 chicken

    An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo on Tuesday slammed a N250, 000 bails on a 22-year-old man, Sulaimon Ajo, charged with stealing domestic fowls valued at N62, 000.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Oriyomi Sofowora, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused two reliable sureties in like sum.

    The accused, who resides at Baseru Araromi in Abeokuta, is facing a two-count charge of felony and theft.

    The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.

    Prosecutor Sunday Eigbejiale told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 19 at Baseru Araromi area of Abeokuta.

    Eigbejiale said the accused person broke into the poultry farm of the complainant, Ibrahim Mutiu and stole 38 domestic fowls.

    The offence contravened Sections 383, 411 and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The magistrate adjourned the case until June 13 for trial.

     

     

  • Man jailed four years for burglary

    An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Fatunmbi Akeem, to four years imprisonment for burglary and stealing.

    Akeem, who lives at 33, Iyana Grammar School, Ogunmakin, Owode in Ogun, was charged with burglary, stealing and escape from lawful custody.

    The Magistrate, Mr Babajide Ilo, sentenced Akeem to four years on each of the three counts, with no option of fine.

    However, Ilo said the sentence would run concurrently.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Famous Edigbue, had told the court that the convict, with others at large, committed the crime on June 15, at about 11 p.m. at Osiele area of Abeokuta.

    Edigbue said that Akeem stole some items and damaged properties worth N250, 000 belonging to four persons.

    “He broke into the shop of Mr Saheed Salami, through the ceiling which he damaged and stole wines, sweets, Tiger brand batteries and other goods worth N16, 000.

    “He also stole welding machine, grinding machine, electric cable, all valued at N50, 000.

    “At the same time, he stole two Turkeys and a fowl valued at N20, 000 from one Mr Aderonju Olaniyi,” he told the court.

    The prosecutor added that on May 23, at about 4.30 a.m. at Erunwon, Abeokuta, the accused also stole a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number SGM 504 WU valued at N130, 000, property of one Adewale Adeogun.

    He said that the accused was arrested and that while in police custody at Oke Itoku Divisional Headquarters in Abeokuta, he tried to escape from the cell and was caught.

    Edigbue said that the offences contravened sections 411, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun state, 2006.

    The accused pleaded guilty to the three charges against him.
