    Lucky tips Abia Angels  to dismantle Dannaz Ladies in Lagos

    Abia Angels attacker, Mary Lucky has urged her teammates to sustain the momentum as they face Dannaz Ladies in Lagos today in a Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Matchday 7 tie.

    Lucky and her teammates battled hard before beating Ekiti Queens 1-0 last Wednesday in Umuahia.

    Chiamaka Ojiafor’s 21st  minute strike was enough to hand Abia Angels the crucial three points which has stretched their home invincibility to three wins from three games.

    Lucky who has three goals from six games and was voted the Best Player of the NWFL Matchday Four told NationSport that they had to work very hard before securing the maximum points against the visitors from Ekiti and as such must stay humble to achieve their season’s objectives.

    “It was a very tight home win for us but we are grateful to God that we got the three points. We have won all our three home games scoring seven and not conceding any thus far,” Lucky said.

    “We are not carried away by the win and ensuring we achieve a good result in Lagos is our next target.”

    With Lucky’s goals, Abia Angels are now fourth on the league table with 10 points from six games and are only two points adrift of playoffs spot presently occupied by Nasarawa Amazons.

    Abia Angels attacker, Mary Lucky is delighted with her nomination as the Most Valuable Player of the Matchday Four and she’s assuring her Umuahia fans that the club would bounce back against Ekiti Queens next week.

    Lucky scored all three goals as Abia Angels trumped Confluence Queens 3-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium in one of the Matchday Four games and she has promised to do more in subsequent games.

    The former Heartland Queens striker was a thorn in the flesh of Remo Stars Ladies on Wednesday in a Matchday Five which Abia Angels lost 2-0. She was adjudged the Woman of the Game despite her team’s defeat.

    “I am extremely happy to be so recognised as the Most Valuable Player of Matchday Four. This will spur me up to do more,” Lucky told NationSport. “It was nice I scored three goals in our last home game but we could not prevent the loss in Ikenne. We tried all we could but we were still beaten.

    “We must move on from the loss to Remo Stars Ladies and work on what must be done to beat Ekiti Queens by as many goals as possible.”

    The Falconets attacker will hope to continue with her blistering start to the season when Ekiti Queens visit Umuahia.

    Abia Angels, Remo Stars to battle for Sheroes Cup

    Abia Angels yesterday defeated Bayelsa Queens 4-3 on penalties to stage 2024 Sheroes Cup final match with Remo Stars Ladies.

    After a 0-0 regulation time, the teams went into penalties which ended 4-3 in favour of Abia Angels. Abia Angels were the better side in the regulation time despite their inability to convert their chances. Abia Angels forward, Kindness Iheanyi was voted Man of The Match in the second semi-final.

    In the first semi-final, Remo Stars Ladies also outscored Naija Ratels 5-4 on penalties to qualify for the final.

    Remo cancelled Naija Ratels’ slim lead in the 60th  minute and the last 30 minutes ended with no goal with both teams going into penalties.

    The tournament hosts, Naija Ratels drew the first blood in the 20th  minute. Odutade in the 20th  minute put Naija Ratels ahead before Cynthia Mega equalised for Remo Ladies in the 60th minute.

    The Third Place match between Naija Ratels and Bayelsa Queens will hold at the FIFA Goal Project holds at 1:00pm while the final game between Remo Stars Ladies and Abia Angels is slated for 3:00pm at the same venue  today.

    2024 Sheroes Cup: Naija Ratels, Abia Angels record huge wins

    It was goal galore on Matchday 2 of the 7th Sheroes Cup with the four games living up to expectations.

    Heartland Queens were held by Dannaz ladies to a one-all draw. Skipper Opara Chiemere gave Heartland the lead in the 38th  minute only to be pegged back a minute later by Dannaz Ladies courtesy of a header by Ayi Janet after mixup at the back.

    Honey Badgers were annihilated by Abia Angels by four goals to nil. A hat trick from Ciamaka Ojialor in the 26th , 75th  and 84th  minutes of the game and a line goal from Mercy Lucky in the 70th confirmed the Victory.

    Naija Ratels returned to winning ways with an emphatic five nil victory over Non-league Nazareth Ladies. A brace from Agama Zipreke, and goals from Oluwatosin Ogundeko, Blessing Emmanuel and Adanna Nwachukwu condemned Nazareth to their first defeat of the competition.

    In the last game, a goal from  Bolaji Olamide early in the second half was a enough to hand Remo stars a hard fought victory over Nasarawa Amazons and continued their unbeaten run with two wins in two

    Game will continue on match day three of the Series Cup as high flying Abia Angels will battle Ekiti Queens, Nazareth will lock horns with Heartland, Bayelsa Queens will hope to continue on winning note when they face hard fighting Dannaz ladies and the final game of the day will see struggling Honey Badgers lock horns with wounded Nasarawa Amazons.
