  • Abia APC chairman buries mum

The vicar in-charge of Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Abayi Ariaria, Osisioma, Diocese of Aba, Ven. John U Amaraonye has charged Christians to live a godly life.

Ven. Ahuruonye in a homily at the commendation service for late Madam Emily Nwangalasi Nwankpa (Bembe), mother of Abia APC chairman, Hon Donatus Nwankpa, titled “where will you spend your eternity” also enjoined politicians to use their riches to serve God and humanity, stressing that everyone must give account of his deeds on earth on the last day.

Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who came in the company of other state officials, described late Emily Nwankpa as a mother who lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.

Ikpeazu went ahead to charge the bereaved family to take consolation in the woman’s death at a very old age of 103 and to stop weeping.

  • Abia APC consoles ex-lawmaker

Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commiserated with Senator Nkechi Nwaogu on the passing of her husband Dr. Roland Nwaogu.

The ex-lawmaker represented Abia Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2015.

Dr. Nwaogu died after a protracted illness at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Speaking in Aba, the state APC chairman Dr. Donatus Nwankpa described Dr. Rowland’s death as unfortunate and a big loss to the entire state.

He said, “It is a very big loss to us especially this period that we are trying to organise ourselves. He was not just Nkechi Nwaogu’s husband. He was one of our leaders who have participated in the political restructuring of our place. He was very prominent in SDP (Social Democratic Party), NCPN, APP before it became ANPP, UNCP.

“So he has been a major actor in the political scene and one thing that we are going to miss about him is his straightforwardness. He is a very, very uncompromising person towards his honesty. He is a man that wants things to be said the way they should and he called a spade a spade.

“The burial is an APC affair. My people are already working, but let me also point out that he belongs to everybody. Dr. Nwaogu is beyond political party. Let me also point out that the period of politicking is over. What we are having now is government; government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and government of Abia State. So, in that regard, every responsibility towards the successful burial of Dr. Nwogu should not be looked at from the political angle; he was one of the oldest knights in the Anglican Church where he worshipped until death and a traditional leader. So, it is a burial that affects all.

“People should also condole with us; the APC because it is not only her loss, but a loss to the APC family,” Nwankpa added.

Dr. Nwaogu died at the age of 63, according to the family, which added that there would be service of songs at his Kamalu, Umungasi residence and Umuagaa Village in Mbutu-Oma autonomous community, Osisioma Local Government Area on August 23 and 24.

  • Abia APC rejects results

    Abia APC rejects results

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Dr. Nyerere Chineye Anyim, has said the party has rejected the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Speaking in Umuahia, he said they rejected the results based on malpractices, fraud, mutilation of result sheets and abuse of the electorate by security men.

Anyim said the party expressed shock and disappointment about the results, adding that it was the worst election held in the state.

He hailed the peaceful way the people comported themselves.

The APC governorship candidate said the idea of mobilising security men to intimidate the electorate meant that there was no election, as results were manipulated at Ikwuano and Ugwunagbo, adding: “Result sheets were not brought.”

He alleged that the government took the result sheets and went to the local government headquarters to write the results, especially in Obingwa Local Government.

Anyim said what happened in Obingwa also took place in Ohafia “where about 20,000 people were accredited, but the results showed that 28,000 people voted, which is a fraud.”

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reconsider the result of the presidential election as announced by the Returning officer and enjoined it to investigate the result.

The APC Chairman, Mr. Donatus Nwankpa, advised the public to be peaceful but proactive, stressing that the task of cleaning the country is for all.

He said: “We don’t want a breakdown of law and order in the state. The anomaly, which occurred during last weekend’s election, will never happen again.”

  • Abia APC condemns presidential poll’s results

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as “fraudulent” the result for the presidential election in the state.

It accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of cooking up figures after seeing the victory of the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammdu Buhari, in the Southwest.

Its state chairman, Fabian Okonkwo, in a statement yesterday, said the result released by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Abia State did not reflect what happened at polling units on Saturday.

Okonkwo said: “Figures from polling units show that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not have up to the votes recorded for it but its agents padded it to over 360,000 to try to counter Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s figures in the Southwest. Yet, less than 180,000 people came out to vote.”

The party deplored the development, saying it was bad for democracy.
