    Abia CP orders tight security for schools, worship centres, public facilities

    The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has directed all Divisional Police heads across the state’s 17 local government areas to ensure that schools, both government and private, as well as worship centres, are adequately protected.

    He further instructed police officers to safeguard public facilities and properties from vandalism, emphasising the need for heightened vigilance across all areas of responsibility.

    The directive came during a security awareness tour of various Area Commands under the state command.

    CP Isa warned Area Commanders, Divisional Heads, and members of the state Tactical Team to prioritise the safety of their jurisdictions.

    According to the Command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, the tour covered Obehie, Ugwunagbo, CPS Aba, Owerrenta, Ubakala, CPS Umuahia, Area Command Aba, Area Command Umuahia, and other divisions across Abia State.

    “The Commissioner of Police appealed to residents to be proactive by providing useful information to the Police, either at the nearest station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08035415405, 0879210004, 08079210005, 08079210006,” Chinaka said.

    CP Isa stressed that security coverage must extend to schools, worship centres, and other critical government infrastructures to ensure public safety.

    The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa is leading other officers of the command in chasing the gunmen that attacked a police team in Asaga Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

    The Nation reported that gunmen said to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked policemen in Ohafia, killing one and injuring another during a gun duel where they (police team) where carrying stop and search operation.

    Danladi, who led a team of the NPF personnel of the command to Ohafia, along Asaga Road by Terry Key in Ohafia and Ohafia axis in a bid to apprehend the hoodlums, who ambushed and attacked officers on patrol duty, expressed sadness over the death of his man.

    The CP said ASP Etim Obungha was rescued, Corporal Chukwu Odoemelam, who sustained bullet injury during the attack, was promptly rushed to the hospital and is currently responding to treatment.

    He added that the body of ASP Etet Uboulo who did not survive the earlier attack was recovered.

    According to him, in the course of the operation, some exhibits were recovered from the crime scene and investigation, he said, was ongoing with the view to tracking down the hoodlums.

    “Watertight security measures have been emplaced as tactical teams; operatives from Ohafia Area Command in collaboration with the army component from 14 Brigade, Ohafia are currently on patrol in the area.”

    CP Danladi assured that the perpetrators of the crime will be apprehended to face justice.

    The spokesman of the command, Maureen Chinaka, however, urged members of the public to remain security-conscious as they go about their daily activities and report any suspicious persons with bullet wounds, unusual activities, or movement of strange vehicles to the nearest police station.

    The new Commissioner of Police for Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, has issued a stern warning to his personnel against engaging in corrupt practices.

    Speaking to officers of the recently established Operation Crush, created by Governor Dr. Alex Otti to combat crime in Umunneochi and surrounding areas, Danladi emphasised the need for integrity as they perform their duties.

    He urged the special operation team to avoid any form of corruption and stressed the importance of professionalism and vigilance.

    The state police chief made it clear that indiscipline would not be tolerated, and disciplinary action would be taken against any officers found in violation.

    The state police chief, who reminded the personnel of the importance of professionalism and vigilance in the face of their duties, warned that the state command under him frowns at indiscipline and would take disciplinary actions would be taken against any erring officer(s).

    He also further urged them to stay focused on their duties, particularly in the apprehension and detention of criminals, adding that his mission of coming to the state was to ensure that Abia State was peaceful and safe for economic development and businesses to thrive.

    Danladi, who assumed office last week as the 34th Commissioner of Police in the state after taking over from his predecessor, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie who was promoted to an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) by the Police Service Commission (PSC) said: “My commitment to the people of Abia is unwavering, and I am determined to work diligently with all relevant partners, including other security agencies, community leaders, and the public, to achieve our shared goal of sustained peace and security.

    “Under my leadership, the police in Abia will prioritize intelligence-led policing. This approach is crucial in tackling modern crime challenges, as it allows us to stay one step ahead by preventing crimes before they occur.

    “By gathering, analyzing, and acting timely and relevant information, we can be more proactive and responsive in dealing with criminal activities.

    “I strongly believe that the police cannot function effectively without the support and cooperation of the community we serve.

    “I will actively encourage community members to engage with the police, share information, and collaborate with us in ensuring the safety of our neighborhoods.

    “Together, we can create a safer environment for all.

    “Furthermore, the police under my command will uphold a high standard of civility in our interactions with the public.

    “It is essential that we maintain professionalism, fairness, and impartiality in all our dealings to ensure justice for everyone, regardless of status or background.

    “We will be both firm and fair, ensuring that the rule of law is upheld without discrimination or favoritism.
