    Abiara seeks advocacy against war

Global Prophet and Evangelist, Samuel Abiara, has enjoined people all over the world, irrespective of religion, race and ethnicity, to join in the advocacy against war.

He said although the current happenings globally had been prophesied in the scripture, it could still be averted.

Abiara, in a statement signed yesterday in Lagos by his media aide, Elder Daodu Gbenga, called for advocacy against war globally.

He said: “Although these incidents have been prophesied in the scripture because of the presence of Satan on earth, we can say enough is enough and God in His infinite mercies will answer and put Satan to shame.

“The carnage, savagery and gruesome killings of children, men and women and loss of properties that will put us in global economic peril must be put to an end.

“There is no need for wars in any part of the world, for we are all created by God. We all share the same father and mother, Adam and Eve.

“The religious division promoting hatred among us is the handiwork of the archenemy, Satan.”

  • Abiara makes case for the less-privileged

Immediate General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Abiara, has challenged wealthy Christians to engage more in humanitarian gestures.

He also told well-to-do Nigerians to spare a thought for the downtrodden, stating that all the wealth they have acquired are better deployed lifting lives.

The founder of Abiara Divine Foundation (ADF) told our correspondent last week in Lagos that helping the poor is his latest assignment from God.

“God has a special love for the poor and downtrodden. He wants us to remember them in our entire endeavor.

“This is why He has given me this assignment to lift as many poor as possible from the doldorum of poverty.

“Taking care of the poor is my passion. It is the new assignment God gave me and I want to appeal that we should take care of the downtrodden in the society,” he said.

He stated that the foundation will devote itself to providing relief materials and support for the masses as well as empowering them to attain financial sufficiency.

“We don’t just want to feed and clothe them, we also want them to become financially independent through empowerment and vocational training,” he stressed.

On how much the foundation has done, he said several widows and orphans have been given support while the poor have received relief materials.

But he said many more are in the offing, stating “Now, we are planning to extend this gesture to the remote areas with food items, clothing, and equipment for the artisans, cash to encourage potential traders, scholarship and so on.

“The ADF is already having her temporary offices in Lagos and Ibadan. We are planning to open more office in Abuja, USA, UK and employ qualified people to work in these offices.

“It is also part of our plans to build warehouses where donated materials would be kept.”

He called on well-meaning Christians to join him in the campaign to phase out poverty and hunger from the land.

“We need all the support we can get. We are credible and will spend the all the support for the purposes they are meant for,” Abiara said.

He said the wealthy should also remember they will one day leave all their acquisitions to face God.

“Many have houses and buildings they do not need. They just keep acquiring as if life is all about possessions.

“They should give up a fraction of their possessions because that is what touches the heart of God,” Abiara said.

  • Elections, not do-or-die- Abiara

A former General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Prophet Samuel Abiara has appealed to politicians not to see the general elections as a do- or-die affair.

He advised them to rather exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship before and after the elections.

He gave this advice during the kick- off of the Abuja edition of the ‘Prayer for peace in the nation’ revival which held earlier in Ibadan and Lagos in January.

The programme kicked off at the CAC Agbala Itura, along Karimu Road, Kado Area, Abuja and ends today with a thanksgiving in the church.

According to him: “There is always life after elections. In developed climes, politicians don’t see themselves as enemies.

“You hardly hear of any conflict or violence before, during and after the elections over there.

“They remain friends and colleagues even after the elections must have been won and lost.

“Nigerian politicians must learn from this spirit of camaderie and sportsmanship always exhibited by politicians in advanced countries like the United States of America and United Kingdom.

“Also, I want to beg the INEC to make sure that the elections are free, fair and credible.

“We’ll continue to pray for peace in the nation, and for Nigerians.

“At this period of the elections, we need to pray. Nigeria has a glorious future.”

While he reiterated there was no gain in predicting doom for the nation, the cleric noted that prayers could change situations for good.

Abiara also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise a free, fair and credible during the 16th February and 2nd March elections.

  • Abiara warns against election manipulation

The former General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor Samuel Abiara, has warned anyone planning to manipulate the 2019 general election to desist from such plans as the anger of God is looming on such individuals or group of people.

Abiara said this while speaking with journalists at the New Year Thanksgiving Service of Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Itura, Ile-po, Agege, Lagos, adding that INEC should do its best to ensure free and fair elections.

He said that God is more interested in the affairs of Nigeria than any individual or political aspirant; therefore, all voters, political aspirants and their supporters should behave in civilised manner, before, during and after the elections.

“I need to also warn here, that God will not spare anybody that wants to disturb the peaceful conduct of the forth coming election, the wrath of God is looming on such individuals or group or people,” he said.

The prophet stressed that those who want to manipulate the 2019 general election should desist because God will deal with them.

He assured Nigerians that the election will be peaceful and God will choose for us the next crop of leaders that will paddle the affairs of the country in the next four years.

“The future of our dear country is colourful and great. So, Nigerians must put their minds at rest. Let us continue to pray for Nigeria and our leaders. God will never abandon our country. God is at work. God will hear whenever we pray unto him,” he said.

Abiara continued: “It is very crucial that the federal government provides adequate securities for all INEC staff, voters and observers.”

He charged Nigeria citizens all over the country to go out en mass and exercise their right by voting for the candidates of their choice.

Abiara also commended the federal government for the approval of the new national minimum wage of N30,000 or N27, 000 by President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Council of States.

“It is indeed a right step in the right direction. I also commend NLC and their leadership for the peaceful approach to get their request granted,” Abaira said.

  • Abiara backs workers on N30,000 minimum wage

FORMER General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide Prophet Samuel Abiara has backed Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) demand of N30,000 minimum wage.

The demand, he said, was in order and even small, going by the rise in prices of goods and services.

He appealed to the Federal Government to accede to workers’ demand for a decent take-home and avert a strike that might cripple the economy.

Abiara, in his New Year’s message, said: “Nigerian workers are demanding $87 (N30,000). What they are asking for is not too much because prices have gone up, especially food items.

‘’I advise the Federal Government to do something reasonable about workers’ salary. The government should not allow them go on strike because it will cripple the economy.”

The cleric also urged the government to prioritise welfare this year, calling on rich Nigerians to empower the less-privileged.

“The government should reach out to the poor this year. Those who are blessed by God should help the less-privileged. People in positions of authority, business men and women, who want to enjoy the backing of God must help the less-privileged.”

The cleric also advised politicians to avoid hate speech in the run-off to the elections, and be ready to accept the outcome of the polls in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

  • 2019: Shun hate speech, Abiara tells politicians

Former General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) World Wide, Prophet Samuel Abiara, has charged politicians to shun all forms of hate speech as the campaign for 2019 election begins. Abiara said this recently at the 33rd anniversary thanksgiving of CAC Agbala Itura, Oke-Odo, Agege, Lagos. He noted that the impact of hate speech is very bad.

“So, make sure you do away with it in all your campaign. Nobody should use words that can provoke other people’s anger or set the country on fire, adding that let every member of various political parties watch their language. It is high time Nigerian politicians learnt to play politics with the spirit of sportsmanship instead of hatred, violence, hooliganism, and assassination. Politics is not supposed to be a do or die affair,” the tele evangelist said.

Abiara further said that everyone should learn the art of forgiveness especially in any of the positions of authority they may occupy. “If some people are against your political ambition, in case you eventually get to the place of authority, give thanks to God. Don’t use such position to intimidate your so-called enemies. Hold no grudge against anyone. Forgive those who offended you. Don’t make them your enemies. Forget all they did to you because you did not get there in your strength.”

He stressed that politicians will one day give account of how they mismanaged the resource God gave to our dear country. “Very soon, God will expose all those who are corrupt in the secret. God is no respecter of persons. Play politics with maturity just like they do in some developed countries. Are you opportune to be in any position of authority in Nigeria? Be careful,” he said.

  • Don’t set nation on fire, Abiara warns youths

General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Dr Samuel Abiara, has warned youths from the south east and north to desist from making statements capable of setting the nation on fire.

Nigeria, he said, cannot afford another repeat of the 1966-1970 civil war episodes.

Abiara spoke on Saturday during a 30-day revival by Joy Cometh Ministries in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He also told military officers contemplating nursing the idea of coup to perish the thought because they will fail woefully.

The renowned preacher said: “I must use this medium to warn the northern and eastern youths to desist from making any statement that can lead this Nation to chaos. It will not do us any good at all.

“If there is any grievance among these people, let the parties be called to a round table for discussion. Let the matter be settled amicably.

“We must all seek unity, peace and stability of Nigeria. We must not allow anything to tamper with her peace and unity.

He told South-east indigenes in the north not to panic over the quit notice, saying God will intervene in the heated issue.

Abiara said: “I want to call on all Nigerians to keep their minds at rest. Especially our IGBO brothers and sisters who have been asked to leave the northern part of the country.

“God is our father. He owns Nigeria. He will help us as long as we obey Him.

“I admonish all the eastern people not to panic at all. God is in control. They should not react negatively to this matter.”

On those planning military take-over, the preacher said:

“Kindly stop because it will not succeed. Such attempt will not enjoy the backing of God and no international community support, so it will fail.

“I want to advise the Military to focus on what they are called to do. That is, to protect the nation and the people of Nigerian against any external attack.”

How fears over Abiara’s health threw Christian community into panic

BARELY one week after the death of Pastor Christiana Abiara, wife of renowned evangelist, Prophet Samuel Kayode Abiara, the Nigerian Christian community was thrown into panic early in the week over the health of the bereaved prophet. There were reports early in the week that he had to be rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where doctors battled to save his life.

Seventy-year-old Mrs Abiara had passed on after about 50 eventful years of preaching the gospel with her heartthrob and leading the women wing of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Agbala Itura worldwide. Not a few people had surmised that the man of God would find the death of his wife extremely painful and almost unbearable. The speculation proved prophetic when Prophet Abiara was rushed to the hospital; a situation that was quickly linked to the death of his heartthrob.

As would be expected, the news of the popular prophet’s break down jolted the leadership of the Christian community with notable spiritual figures making spirited efforts to reach his family or visit him on the sick bed to douse their worries. And as he lay on his sick bed at a private ward of the UCH, Ibadan, Christian leaders took turns to reach the pastors in the ministry as well as family members and close associates for information on the evangelist’s condition.

The Nation gathered that Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church a.k.a. Winners Chapel, was among the Christian leaders that personally visited Abiara at the hospital. Many other prominent church leaders were said to have made telephone calls to Abiara’s family members and friends to confirm that all was well.

It was learnt that the calls only stopped coming in on Thursday when he was discharged from the hospital.

A visit to the Christ Apostolic  Church Agbala Itura, Agege, a suburb of Lagos, on Wednesday, showed some women gathered in front of the church observing the usual Wednesday prayer.  They showed no sign that they had just lost Mrs. Abiara, who was not only dear to them, but also to the prophet.

Speaking on the two unfortunate ‘incidents’, the Media Officer (Print), CAC, Agbala Itura, Lagos, Mrs Eniola Adepeju, told The Nation that there was nothing to worry about because the cleric had prepared the minds of members against such incidents.

Adepeju said: “Papa had prepared the minds of the people, not for Mama’s death but generally on deaths.  He spoke a lot about it in recent times.

“In fact, there is a book Papa (Prophet Abiara) wrote, which is about to be published. It is title ‘Why death?’ And when the incident happened, it was like Papa had been preaching about heaven, preaching about the kingdom of God, preaching about death.

“Apart from the fact that we are human beings and we don’t want anybody to die, the members felt it. They had wished that God would prolong Mama’s life. It was received in good faith.”

It was gathered that before the September 3 incident, Abiara was on the verge of travelling abroad for his annual vacation, as it was the only time available for him to rest.

While Adepeju would not say when Abiara would leave hospital, she said Abiara might leave the hospital when they are sure he had rested enough, adding that “Papa would not be comfortable staying in the hospital.”

But his first son, Pastor Isaac Abiara, played down the tension generated by reports of his father’s ‘Ill-health’.

According to him, his father was taken to the hospital when it became clear that the stress created by the deluge of condolence visits to the septuagenarian was weighing him down.

The younger Abiara, in an interview with The Nation, said: “The reason why he went to the hospital was the stress someone goes through when they lose a loved one. And he, being an international man, visitors were coming and it was physically overwhelming.

“We made a decision as a family to have him go there and rest, backed by doctor’s advice. There is nothing wrong with him. He is not sick. He just needed to take a bed rest. He lost his wife of over 50 years.”

He said his father was prepared for his wife’s, having been revealed to him  earlier.

Besides, the younger Abiara said his mother lived a life of purpose, supporting her husband in ministry activities and showing care to others. For that purpose, he said, her burial will be considered as ‘going home’ because the family is happy that her Lord has called her to Himself.

His words: “The news of my mother’s death was bitter-sweet. It was of shock and sadness on one hand but was received with joy on the other because we know she lived a good life. She was an epitome of grace, love, kindness and care. She was very caring, God-loving and a woman of wisdom.

“So, while we feel sad because we are still trying to deal with it, the solace we have is that she lived a good life. We know that for sure, she is in heaven. That is our joy as Christians.”

Explaining why it did not come as a shock to his father, he said: “Dad said God already told her to prepare for her passage. We prayed and prayed while she took ill but her death was the will of God. We can’t question God.

“We don’t consider her passage as a negative thing because we believe she has gone to be with the Lord. Her passage just teaches others that are alive to do good, show care and be godly so they can keep the hope of going to be with the Lord at the end. That is why we call the ceremony a celebration of her life.”

Highlighting how caring her mother was to her husband, the younger Abiara said one important thing their father always tells them is how much their mother cared for him.

“One of the common important things Daddy tells us about his wife is how much she loved him. For instance, he told us that while he was preaching in Lagos about three weeks ago, she called and asked if he had eaten.

“Daddy said he wondered so much why she should think about such, knowing full well that there was no way she could have sent food to him in Ikorodu.

“He always tells us how my mum cared so much for him, how she supported him in his ministry. The second thing he always tells me and my siblings is ‘love your wife. Take care of your wife.’

“That is the message I want to send to everybody. If you are married, take that time to love and appreciate your wife. I’ve never seen my father raise a hand against my mum.

“My father travels to several countries of the world preaching. He has no other woman or children anywhere. The bond and love between them was so strong. It was godly love.

“One of the lessons I learnt from them is that my father and mother loved each other to the last breath, till death did them part.”

With such a strong bond, many would think that Baba Abiara would struggle to survive. But his son said he had no fear for his father’s survival, having been in ministry work for 50 years without a scandal.

He said: “No fear for my dad after my mum’s departure. The reason is that in the Bible, God promises to be with us when we pass through challenges.

“My father is a man of the word and he believes in whatever the Bible says. God, who called him and has been with him for 50 years in ministry, will continue to be with him. So, there is no fear. Absolutely no fear. He is going to be fine. He is going to be preaching. Normal church programmes continues right after the home-going programme.”

The ‘home-going’ ceremony has been slated for the last week of November and early December.
