    Police kill five suspected kidnappers in Ogun, rescue victim

    The Ogun State Police Command said on Wednesday that five suspected kidnappers were shot dead on Tuesday night during a failed attempt to collect N100 million ransom.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this while parading the corpses of the suspected kidnappers at the Egba Owode Divisional Police Headquarters in Obafemi-Owode local government area of the state.

    Oyeyemi said the kidnappers had engaged the police in a gun duel during the rescue of the victim who had been in captivity for five days.

    He said the suspects on Friday waylaid the victim, dragged him out of his car at gun point and took him to a forest where they kept him for five days.

    The spokesman said the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded the sum of N100 million.

    Following the development, he said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, gave a marching order for the victim’s rescue and the arrest of the suspects.

    He said the police raided the gang’s hideout in the forest, adding that five suspects died in the ensuing shootout while one escaped with bullet wounds.

    Oyeyemi, however, said the fleeing gang member would soon be arrested.

    The victim, Stephen Adesokan, said he was driving on the Ajura-Ogere road in Obafemi-Owode local government area when the suspects accosted him.

    Adesokan, the orderly to the Divisional Police Officer of Ibara Divisional Police Headquarters in Abeokuta, was full of gratitude to God and the command for rescuing him.

    “The bandits emerged from a nearby bush and at gun point forced me out of the car.

    “They led me into a bush and we started trekking for about an hour.

    “They later declared to me that they were kidnappers and ordered me to speak to my family through the phone that I am in their custody.

    “They took the phone from me and spoke with my family demanding for N100 million before I could regain my freedom.

    “Failure to pay, they said, would result in my death,” he said.

    Man kills wife in Ogun for alleged adultery

    Ogun State Police Command has arrested  Femi Adebowale for killing his wife Kuburat Adebowale to death following suspicion that she was cheating on him.

    The couple lived at Agbado in Ifo Local Govt area of Ogun State where the incident occurred last Monday.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the husband was following a complaint from the younger brother of the deceased identified as Shakiru Alao who informed the Agbado Police Division that his sister has been beaten to death by the husband over an allegation of adultery.

     Oyeyemi added that the Divisional Police Officer in  Agbado, Sunday Omonijo, upon receiving the information,  led Police Officers to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

    The man was said to have beaten his wife to death during an argument over inadequate money given to her for a naming ceremony of her brother’s child. 

    According to the Police Image maker, the suspect in his statement alleged that his wife has been engaging in the act of infidelity to the extent of dating their next door neighbour.

    Oyeyemi added that the suspect confessed to giving the deceased the sum of N10,000 for her younger brother’s naming ceremony, but she complained it was not enough and that it was her adulterous practice that made him declined giving her more money.

    Police arrest two brothers for killing Septuagenarian

    The Ogun State Police Command have arrested two brothers – Mathew Elegbede (27) and Sunday Elegbede(33) over the murder of 73 years old man, Pa Odeyemi Adebari in Agbara area of the state.

    One of the suspects, Matthew,  had last June 12 broke into the apartment of a tenant in the house of the deceased which prompted the tenant to raise an alarm and  when the deceased  challenged Matthew for his action, he was said to have beat a retreat only to re-appear at the scene later along with his elder brother, Sunday,   armed with cutlass, they attacked the Septuagenarian, inflicting grave injuries on him.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement  said the two bothers were arrested by the Divisional Police Officer, Agbara Division, Adegbite Omotayo, and his team following a complaint by the deceased’s son who reported the incident at the Agbara Division.

    Abimbola, Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP), added  that the two brothers attacked the man with machete and inflicted  injuries on him. 

    According him, the man  was taken  to the hospital and admitted for treatment,  but died  four days later  as a result of the injuries   sustained while the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.

    Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued 13 years old child in Sagamu who was chained hands and feet by his biological father.

    The boy’s father, identified as Adeoye Oreyomi (41), has also been arrested by the Police for “dehumanizing” his son Demola Oreyomi.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement said the suspect who resides claimed that the boy stole his N2000.

    Abimbola added that this prompted the father to stripe the boy naked, tie both hands and legs with chain and padlocked it.

    According to the Police image maker, neighbours who feared that the boy might die because of the torture, alerted the Police at the Sagamu Divisional Headquarters  where Aduroja Moses mobilised a team of Police officers to the scene and met the boy soaked in his own blood.

    He  was quickly rescued and taken to the Owokoniran hospital Sagamu for treatment while the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspect be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

    He also warned that the command would not tolerate any act of lawlessness from anybody no matter how highly placed the person may be.

    Commercial sex workers stab customer to death in Ogun

    The Ogun Police Command has arrested two commercial sex workers for allegedly stabbing a middle aged man, Adeyinka Olayinka to death in Ifo area of the state.

    Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), made the disclosure on Wednesday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.

    Oyeyemi said the incident happened on Tuesday at KS Hotel in Ifo Local Government Area.

    He said the victim, who was supervising construction work on his site, decided to pass the night in the hotel when the incident occurred.

    He said that the suspects, Kudirat Raji, also known as Angela and Esther Basiru were sex workers at the Hotel where the victim was stabbed to death with broken bottles.

    He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the victim contracted Kudirat Raji to pass the night with him on an agreed amount.

    According to the PPRO, the deceased reneged on the agreement which led to heated argument between them.

    “While the argument was going on, Basiru who is a friend to Angela broke a bottle and injured the deceased.

    “Angela used the broken part of the bottle to stab the deceased in the armpit thereby cutting one of his nerves, consequent upon which he bled to death,’’ he said.

    Oyeyemi said the manager of the hotel alerted the Police and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ifo Division; CSP Anthony Haruna led his men to the scene and arrested the two suspects.

    He said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered that the case be transferred to Homicide section, Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation and prosecution of the suspects.

    Two persons were killed and others injured in an attack on a night club in Ijebu – Igbo, Ogun State, by people suspected to be cultists, who shot into the crowded club on Friday night.
    The Nation gathered that the incident happened around 9:30pm when the fun seekers were in high spirit, drinking and dancing to a tune of music until the attackers barged into them and before they knew it, gun shot rang out severally, shattering their peace.
    It was gathered further that bullets allegedly struck two of the fun seekers, including one Seun Abana, dead while some others were also injured in an ensuing stampede.
     A witness told The Nation that the remains of the dead were evacuated on Saturday morning by the Police Operatives from the Police Divisional Headquarters, Ijebu – Igbo.
    But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the attack on the night club, said one person – Seun Abana, was shot dead.
    Abimbola said the assailant stormed the club, identified the victim and shot him.
    He added that the Police is conducting an investigation into the incident to unmask the identity of the killer, expressing the confidence that the Police would get the killer.

    ‘No clue on killers of family of six in Ogun’

    No clue yet to the ‘insiders’ suspected  to have assassinated a Muslim cleric, Sheik Yussuf Abdul-Salam, his wife and four children in their home at the Atiba area of Odogbolu,  near Ijebu – Ode, Ogun State.

    Sheik Yusuf Abdulsalam Tanimola in his 30s, his wife and four children, including eight years old twins were found dead, in their home last Tuesday morning by their neighbours.

    The cleric was said to have been smashed to death with stone while his wife and children were hacked down with machetes by suspected killers, who stole into their home and murdered them in a pre – dawn attack.

    The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who had visited the scene to assess the situation, told journalists that the killing might have been perpetrated by an “insider” or with the help of an insider.

    “The trace of the modus that is used seems that there is work of an insider…It’s a constructive act; when we say constructive act, it means an act which is done by a knowledge of the inside of the place,” Iliyasu said.

    And check by The Nation revealed that there is no clue yet to the people that wiped out the Atiba family of six, no arrest have also been made but investigation  into the killing persists even as the Police have embarked on “massive manhunt to track down the killers” and apprehend them.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told The Nation that there was no arrest yet but investigation continues.

    Abimbola added that the motive for the killing is also not yet established, but assured that the Police would get the killers.

    Several injured as hoodlums clash in Ogun

    Many people were injured on Monday after rampaging hoodlums took to the streets of Agbado in Ogun State and unleashed mayhem.

    The hoodlums, suspected to be members of Marindoti, Farm, Federal and Bolar cult groups, engaged in fierce battle near the Agbado Station.

    It was gathered that the fight which started since last week, was caused by rivalry over women.

    The hoodlums wielded dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and bottles.

    They destroyed people’s shops, vehicles and homes, littering the area with shattered glasses.

    Although no life was lost in the fracas, shop owners, motorists and passersby sustained injuries.

    The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said he was unaware of the incident.

    Man ‘beheads’ 72-year-old woman over land dispute

    A 23-year-old man, Adeoye Ikugbayigbe, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly beheading a 72year-old-woman, Funmilayo Shada, following an argument over land.

    Ikugbayigbe was arrested after the deceased’s son Ekundayo Shada reported the matter to the Abigi Divisional Headquarters Monday.

    According to Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ekundayo was on his way to meet his mother at their farm when he saw Ikugbayigbe on the road holding a polythene bag.

    Oyeyemi said: “As soon as Ikugbayigbe sighted him, he dropped the bag and ran into the bush. This aroused Ekundayo’s suspicion and he quickly ran to check his mother but could not find her. He later came back to check the bag dropped by the suspect only for him to discover his mother’s severed head and her wrist in the said bag.

    “He quickly reported the case to the police and the DPO Abigi Division, SP Komolafe Omoniyi led detective to the scene, combed the surrounding bush and finally got the suspect arrested.

    “On interrogation, he confessed to the commission of the crime claiming that he has been having a running battle with the deceased over a portion of land. The severed head and the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary while the cutlass he used has also been recovered”.

    “The Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect be transferred to Homicide section of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) for further investigation.”

     

  • Police arrest 17 ‘cultists’ in Ogun

    The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 17 men for cult related activities in Ijebu-Igbo area of the state.

    It said the men were apprehended in four areas of the town following a distress call to the police by residents of the area that some hoodlums were on rampage.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told journalists on Thursday that preliminary investigations showed that the men belonged to “Eiye” and “Aiye” cult groups.

    The two rival cult groups have been battling for supremacy in the area.

    “On receipt of the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Ijebu Igbo Division, Agene James, led teams of policemen to the scene while reinforcement was also sent by the Area Commander, Ijebu-Ode and the activities of the hoodlums were successfully curtailed.

    “At the end of the operation, 17 suspects were arrested and weapons such as locally made guns, knife, charms and bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them.

    “The Area Commander, Funso Ajao, who coordinated the operation, is fully on ground to monitor the situation in order to prevent the hoodlums from regrouping.”

    He added that Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered that suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discrete investigation.

    “The CP appealed to members of the public to go about their businesses without fear of any harassment from any quarter as adequate security arrangement is on ground to ensure that residents of the state sleep with their two eyes closed,” Oyeyemi said.
