  • Kebbi gets new acting CJ

    Governor Abubakar Bagudu has appointed Justice Muhammed Suleiman Ambusa as the new Acting Chief Justice of Kebbi state.

    He was sworn in Friday at a ceremony which took place at the Government House chamber in Birnin Kebbi.

    The new acting CJ was appointed a Judge of Kebbi State High Court in April 1998 and thereafter took up several assignments within and outside the state.

    He is a graduate of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, where he emerged as the overall best student in law in 1986.

     

  • Buhari condoles with Bagudu over brother, others death

    President Muhammad Buhari on Saturday condoled with Gov. Abubakar Bagudu and people of Kebbi state over the death of the governor’s younger brother, Alhaji Faruk Bagudu.

    He also condoled Bagudu on the demise of  Alhaji Bala Sakaba who was the former Secretary to the State Government and Alhaji Muhammad Danteni who was a member, House of Representative, representing Shanga, Yauri, Ngaski federal constituency.

    The federal government delegation to the governor, led by the Interior Minister Abdulrahaman Dambazau, included FCT Minister Musa Bello and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami.

    Dambazau said: ”President Buhari extends his condolence to the people of the state and Governor Bagudu over the death of his younger brother Alhaji Faruk Bagudu and other elderly statemen, Alhaji Bala Sakaba and Alhaji Muhammad Dantani.

    “Mr President is supposed to be here but due to national issues and commitments, he could not make it; that is why he delegated us to be here on his behalf,” he said.

    Dambazau added that the incident was a great loss to the nation, the state and the families of the bereaved, praying that the souls of the departed rest in peace.

    Bagudu thanked the Presidential delegations, and prayed to God to grant Buhari long life and good health as well as peace and unity in the country. (NAN)

  • Bagudu wins in 10 Kebbi councils

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of All Progressives Congress (APC) has won in 10 local government areas of Kebbi State in the governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

    Prof. Haruna Bichi, the Collation Officer for the election announced in Kebbi on Sunday that APC scored 30,720, while Isa Galaudu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 4,526 votes in Gwandu LGA.

    He said in Birinin Kebbi LGA, APC also scored 79,092 while PDP polled 6,019 votes.

    In Argungu LGA, APC scored 30,101 while PDP pulled 23,397 votes, while in Shangal LGA, APC scored 27,012 and PDP polled 3,506 votes.

    Also in Aliero LGA, APC scored 21,923 against PDP’s 3,479, while in Suru LGA, APC scored 39,359 and PDP scored 5,198 votes.

    In Kargo LGA, APC got 21,899 while PDP scored 805 votes and in Augie LGA, APC scored 28,479 and PDP polled 11,875 votes.

    In Bunza LGA, APC scored 23,980, while PDP scored 2,114 votes. And in Dandy LGA, APC scored 33,315 while PDP pulled 5,921votes.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there are 21 LGAs in Kebbi, as collation is still in progress as at the time of filling this report.

  • NGO raises funds for cancer patients

    Project Pink Blue, a Non-Governmental Organisation, says it organised a music and comedy event to raise funds for cancer patients in the country.

    Mr Runcie Chidebe, the Executive Director of the organisation, said this while declaring the show open in Abuja.

    Chidebe noted that it was imperative for Nigerians to help indigent cancer patients as the disease became rampant.

    The show, tagged “Show Love”, is meant to encourage and engage Nigerians to financially support indigent cancer patients.

    According to Chidebe, awareness of cancer without adequate provision for treatment can make the victims lose their lives due to the thoughts of treatment alone.

    “I started the fight for cancer victims while I was serving in the year 2013 when I met a cancer victim who finally died because of inadequate funds for treatment.

    “The rising cost of cancer treatment and poverty has remained major impediments for several cancer patients to afford cancer treatment in Nigeria.
    “We believe that early detection and treatment can save a lot of lives but lack of funds hampers survival chances of a lot of people.

    The funds realized today would be used as a trust fund which will be made available to patients at any given time.
    “I implore cancer patients who find funds as impediments to their treatment to log on to our website at www.projectpinkblue.org and make their case, and we will follow up from there,” he said.

    Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State said that it was important for Nigerians to donate to cancer treatment as it would go a long way to reducing preventable deaths in the country.

    “With less people affected with cancer, we will be able to fund more people already on treatment,” he said.

    Some of the dignitaries present at the event include a cancer advocate, Dr Zainab Bagudu, wife of the Kebbi state governor, and Mrs Asiya El-Rufai, Kaduna State governor’s wife.

    There are Dr Amina Bello, Wife of Niger state governor, and Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, Ondo state governor’s wife, among other artists and celebrities.

  • Bagudu counsel Igbo community on peaceful coexistence

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi, has advised the Igbo community to ensure peaceful coexistence in their respective places of abode across the state.

    Bagudu, represented by Board Chairman, State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Sani Dododo, gave the advice at the launching of the second edition of Igbo Community Association Almanac in Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday.

    ”Am calling on all Igbo communities in 21 local governments of the state to continue to support state and Federal  Government policies and programmes  to move the state forward,” he said.

    He assured the community of the administration’s commitment to sustain the existing peaceful coexistence among residents of the state.

    Earlier, the Vice President of Igbo community, Mr Jonas Nwafor, expressed appreciation to the state government for supporting the Igbo community.

    Nwafor said the Igbo community believed in the corporate existence of the country and assured that the members would sustain existing peace and unity among all tribes in the state.

  • APC clear National Secretary, 23 others for 2019 governorship poll

    The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) has affirmed the nomination of the party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni and 23 others as governorship candidates of the party for the 2019 governorship election across the country.

    Also cleared to fly the party flag are Lagos state flag bearer, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong, Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, Kebbi state Governor, Abubakar Bagudu and Katsina state Governor, Aminu Bello MASARI.

    Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena said in a statement that the clearance followed the adoption of the report of the various electoral committee sent to conduct the primaries in the various states.

    The governorship primaries for Enugu, Kwara and Adamawa states have not been conducted, while the party has cancelled the primary in Zamfara and Imo states due to irregularities.

    The NWC also approved the report of the pane, that conducted the governorship primary in Ogun State which declared Dapo Abiodun as the candidate of the party.

  • Bagudu assures corps members of maximum security in Kebbi

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi has assured corps members posted to the state of maximum security during their primary assignment.

    The governor gave the assurance during the closing ceremony of the 2018 batch ‘A’ orientation course at NYSC permanent camp, Dakingeri, Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi on Wednesday.

    Represented by the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG ) Alhaji Umar Yauri, Bagudu said “forget about fears and worries in your respective places of primary assignment because adequate security and better welfare arrangements have been worked out for you.

    “I am pleased today to note that you have tremendously adjusted to the new environment, and have also put behind you all agitations and worries of the unknown. Let me use this occasion to inform you that the stater government has put in place adequate measures to ensure that you have a hitch-free service year in Kebbi.

    “I therefore enjoin you to accept your posting as an act of God and report to wherever you are posted to without fear, but equip yourselves with courage and determination to be part of our collective drive to develop the education sector in the state.”

    Gov. Bagudu commended stakeholders in the country for their dedication toward training Nigerian youths through the NYSC, stressing that corps members should live up to the expectations of the scheme by serving the country with diligence and patriotism.

    The NYSC Coordinator in Kebbi, Alhaji Lawal Turawa, commended the corps members for their good conduct and endurance during the 21 days orientation exercise.

    He said “NYSC members posted to Kebbi have indeed chosen and taken the path of greatness by imbibing the good ideals of our founding fathers. They are well prepared to exploit to the fullest the last drop of their energy to serve the country in every nook and cranny of the state”.

    He urged corps members to be law abiding citizens and partner the state to secure the environment.

  • Gov. Bagudu swears-in five judges, two Khadis

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi on Wednesday swore -in five High Court Judges and two Khadis of the state Sharia Court of Appeal with a call on them to maintain the integrity of the judiciary.

    He said that without justice there would be no peace, and urged the judiciary to stand firm and uphold justice without fear or favour.

    The governor said that the state must reform its laws including the Penal Code and Criminal procedure Code in line with current realities.

    Bagudu particularly said that new provisions must be made to provide adequate punishment for those convicted of rape and kidnapping.

    According to him, the Northern Governors Forum have since directed Attorneys’ General and Commissioners for Justice in the region to undertake comprehensive reforms of Criminal Laws and Code of Conduct Procedures.

    He noted that the new appointees would replace those that retired recently.

    Earlier, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Rahmatu  Gulma urged the new Judges to be courageous, fair and just in the administration of justice.

    She said: ” I must quickly and respectively add, my Lords, that in as much as the standard required to becoming a judge is high, it requires a far higher standard to remain one.

    “This is because the demand of the office are quite challenging.

    “You deal with matters that more often than not, excite so much public interest and at times too much publicity for the comfort of my Lords’ quiet and recluse lifestyle.

    “At other times, public expectations and sentiments may be tilted towards an expected outcome which may not be in line with the law.

    “Do not give in to intimidation borne out of sentiments that have no bearing with the law.

    “Never be swayed by partisan interest, neither by public clamour or fear of criticism. Be firm, fair and just to all.

    “This is the only way that you can uphold the dignity of the Bench, this is the only way to maintain justice, equity and fairness.”

    The new High Court Judges included Halima Aliu, Abubakar Sidiq, Stephen Kibo, Hassan Usman and Mainasara Umar, while the Khadis were Alhaji Usman Kudu and Alhaji Sani Randale.

  • Gov Bagudu assures Corps members of security, welfare in Kebbi

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi has assured corps members of adequate security and better welfare. Bagudu gave the assurance at the swearing in ceremony of the NYSC batch A at the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC ) Orientation Camp in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area on Monday.

    ”The government of Kebbi State on its part will do everything within its capacity to ensure a conducive and secure environment during and after the orientation course.

    ”Kebbi State is known for peace, your safety here is assured.

    “I have directed various security agencies in the state to double their efforts towards ensuring adequate law and order,” he said.

    Bagudu, represented by the Head of Service, Alhaji Abubakar Idris, said NYSC had remained a beacon of hope for the nation’s development.

    According to him, it has enlightened graduate youths who prior to the inception of the scheme are strangers to diverse culture and traditions of others parts of the nation.

    The governor urged corps members to be law abiding citizens and partner with Kebbi to secure the environment.

    He said that his administration would improve on the general welfare of the corps members in the state.

    Bagudu also urged them to respect the social and cultural beliefs of the community they were posted to serve.

    Earlier, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Lawal Turawa, said that 2,216 corps members had registered for the three weeks orientation comprised of 1,156 males and 1,105 females.

    Turawa said that the corps members would undergo orientation on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship during the orientation.

    He said that the aim was to make them self-reliant and employers of labour rather than job seekers at the end of the service year.

  • Kebbi assures farmers of adequate farming inputs

    Gov. Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi has assured farmers in the state of adequate provision of more farming implement to boost agricultural activities.

    Bagudu made the assertion on Monday at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnics during the report presentation by Agricultural committee of 21 local governments in the State.

    The state government had set up the committee to find lasting solution to rivers dryness and other challenges facing farmers in the state.

    He said the State government is ready to find solution to any problems that is associated with agriculture and food insecurity.

    The governor promised that the state would provide chemical, insecticides for famers to protect their crops against rodents, Quellea birds and insects.

    ” Any community that requires agricultural support, the State government is ready to assist in boosting food production in the state.

    ” We have to focus on our attention to all farmers so that we can make optimal arrangement that can help farmers to produce more products in the State.”

    Governor further said that state government has procured 10,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser for farmers and his administration is planing to distribute 300 tractors and 250 harvesters to farmers to boost food production in the state.

    ” We don’t have challenges of fertiliser because government has procured a lot of fertiliser for farmers in the state, we have fertilisers available for famers at the rate of N5,000 and the farmers can get the fertiliser through their village and district Heads.

    He stated that fertiliser that worth N128 million was given to Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samila Mera to give to the farmers at a subsidiary rate to encourage more cultivation.

    Bagudu said what can be done in rice production can also be done in other crops to boost production.

    The governor said that the state government has sign agreement with NNPC on sugar and cassava to produce ethanol and also sign another agreement with Dangote groups to establish rice Mill Company in the state.

    He further said that women would not be ignored in farming because women are contributing much in rice production, saying “‘we bought over 100 new small scale mill machines to give to women”.

    He pleaded with the Commissioner for Women Affairs to organise women for more farming activities,” he said.

    The News men reports that each of the 21 local governments in the state presented report on challenges facing farmers in their areas.
