  • Gov. Bagudu approves N400m for indigenous students in tertiary institutions

    Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi has approved over N400 million for the payment of 2017/2018 registration fees for indigenous students of the state in various tertiary institutions across the country.

    The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Alhaji Abubakar Dakingari, made this known on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi.

    Dakingari said that about N111 million would be spent for students in Federal University, Birnin Kebbi for the 2017/2018 session.

    He added that N149 million would also be used for the payment of fees for students in Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, for the  2017/2018 academic year.

    Dakingari said that approval of N107 million was also given for the payment of registration fees for indigenes of the state in Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu for the same session.

    “While N2.7 million is for our students at the Federal College of Technical Education, Gusau; another N2.5 million will be paid as fees for students in Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State.

    “A similar gesture of N2.5 million has been offered to students of the state’s origin in College of Education, Minna, Niger State,’’ the governor’s spokesman added.

    He said that N25.7 million would be for those in College of Basic and Advanced Studies, Yauri and N7 million for students in Federal College of Education, Kontagora in Niger.

    According to him, the governor also approved N600, 694 for students in Federal College of Education Zaria, Kaduna State.

  • Buhari sympathises with Kebbi flood victims

    President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with the government and people of Kebbi State on the flood disaster that ravaged 11 local government areas of the state.

    The Chief Press Secretary to Kebbi Governor, Abubakar Dakingari made the disclosure in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

    He said the president’s message was read to the affected Koko, Koko/Besse Local Government Area of the state by Gov. Atiku Bagudu while addressing victims.

    According to the statement, President Buhari is deeply sympathetic with the victims and prayed Allah to provide succor to all of them.

    The governor advised people in the flood prone areas to refrain from construction and building on waterways to prevent future occurrence.

    “The government will embark on clearing and evacuation of rubbish from drainages to ensure free flow of water,’’ Bagudu said.

    Kebbi constructs roads linking Benin, Niger Republic

    The Kebbi State Government says it is constructing roads linking Benin and Niger Republics to boost international trade and enhance relations with border communities.

    A statement issued on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi by Abubakar Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Atiku Bagudu, said the governor made the disclosure when he visited Yeldu, Gandu Wala and Mai Kali communities in the state.

    He said that work on one of the roads is being undertaken by Shinco Nigeria Limited.

    ”We are going to link places like Niamey, Bachaka, Madanfara, Kare, Dadin Kowa, all border villages between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

    “We are in the area to inspect the project, which when completed would link Nigeria with Benin, Niger and other West African countries, creating immense economic benefits to the people,” the governor said.

    The governor also interacted with dry season farmers in Makera on how to assist them maximize their output.

    Bagudu who also spoke with Fulani women in the area, assured that the state government would enter into franchise on dairy production, so as to bring immense benefit to those engaged in livestock farming.

    Kebbi earmarks N900m for digitisation of state TV, Radio

    The Kebbi Government has earmarked N900 million for the digitisation of the state radio and television stations, a government statement said on Wednesday.

    The statement signed by Abubakar Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Atiku Bagudu, said the decision followed complaints that most parts of the state were not getting the stations’ signals.

    According to the statement, the latest complain was by the Emir of Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi, who said that the entire emirate do not enjoy the services of the stations.

    “The emir said the situation made it impossible for people in the emirate to be conversant and abreast of the day-to-day activities and policies of the government,” it said.

    According to the statement, the governor is committed to ensuring that the two broadcast stations cover the whole state including Zuru and Yauri Local Government Areas.

    Bagudu orders relocation of 100 households

    Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, has directed the state Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA ) to relocate 100 households affected by flooding in Dole-Kaina Area of Dandi Local Government to a safer place.

    Bagudu gave this directive in a statement signed by Alhaji Abubakar Dakingari, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

    He also directed the agency to provide the victims with food items, potable water, drugs and mattresses as well as to resettle them in a virgin land.

    “Their present settlement is no longer habitable. A permanent settlement should be provided for them on a virgin land so as to avoid a recurrence of the problem,” it said.

    He said that the relocation became necessary following the overflow of the River Niger and the displacement of more than 100 households in the border town of Dole-Kaina in Dandi Local Government Area.
