  • Lone PDP House of Reps member wins primary in Yobe

    The only PDP member representing Potiskum/Nangere Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Hon. Sabo Garbu on Thursday picked his party’s ticket to re-represent his people at the green chambers of the National Assembly.

    The election which took place at Muhammad Idrissa cinema hall in Potiskum town produced Hon. Sabo Garbu as the winners against two other contestants, Umar Duddaye and Abubakar Muazu.

    The Returning Officer of the primary elections, Hon Baba Iyali Umaru, announced that Hon Garbu won the party’s ticket, having scored the highest votes of103, his closest rival Umar Duddaye polled 98 while the second Abubakar Muazu got 11.

    Hon. Sabo in his acceptance remarks dedicated the victory to his co-contestants, his constituents and the good people of Yobe state, while calling on his colleagues to stay united and work for victory for the party.

    “We are all winners in this election,, so we should all stay united and work together in ensuring success for the party”, Hon. Garbu said.

    Bagudu donates N10m to Igbo community in Kebbi

    Kebbi Government said it had donated N10 million donation to the Igbo community as part of its contribution to boost existing cultural affinity with other ethnic nationalities in the state.

    A statement by Alhaji Abubakar Muazu, Press Secretary to the governor in Birnin Kebbi on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, said the donation was also to give the Igbo community a true sense of belonging like other ethnic groups in the state.

    Muazu quoted Bagudu as having made the donation at a ceremony to mark the 2017 Igbo social and cultural day celebration.

    The governor said the donation was also to facilitate activities of the Igbos in the area and the celebration aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and brotherliness with other groups.

     Bagudu assured the community of his administration’s commitment to the sustenance of peaceful coexistence
    and support groups and associations.

    The President-General of the Igbo community in the state, Chief Samuel Nnamani, commended the donor and assured that the community would sustain peace and unity among other tribes in the state.

    Nnamani said the Igbo community believed in the corporate existence of the different peoples as a country.

    Kebbi to construct four stadia

    Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi has promised to construct four modern stadia in the four emirate councils of the state to boost sports development and unity among youths.

    The four stadia will be constructed in the Gwandu, Argungu, Zuru and Yauri emirate councils.

    The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Muazu, said on Monday in Birnin Kebbi that the promise was made at the Argungu emirate ward football competition.

    “The provision of the stadia is part of efforts to improve on the state’s participation in zonal, national and international competitions as well as enhance peaceful coexistence,’’ Muazu said in a statement.

    It added that the governor urged groups and organisations to sponsor competitions to encourage the government to implement policies that would improve sports development.

    Kebbi distributes motorcycles to surveillance officers

    The Kebbi State Government has distributed 25 motorcycles to disease surveillance officers in the 21 Local Government Areas for tuberculosis and leprosy identification.

    This is contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu and made available to AtikuVision Kebbi State.

    Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu who made the presenation at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi urged the health workers to attain optimum performance to making Kebbi State TB and leprosy free.

    He reiterated his commitment to ensuring Health sector received attention to provide effective health services to the people.

    In a related development, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has urged the people in the state suffering from various illnesses to make themselves available to Specialist Doctor’s expected to arrive the state next month for medical outreach.

    Senator Bagudu disclosed this, while speaking to NYSC Medical Doctors in Bunza General Hospital, during which he advised them to participate in the medical outreach at the Specialist Hospital Kalgo, where medical experts from various parts of the world converge to enable them tap from the vast experience of the Doctors.

    Osinbajo to inaugurate N10bn WACOT Rice Mill in Argungu, Kebbi

    The Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, is to inaugurate the N10 billion WACOT Rice Processing Mill in Argungu, Kebbi, on Tuesday.

    Speaking, Alhaji Bashar Aminu, the Chairman of the WACOT Rice Mill Ltd., said that the mill, which had the capacity to produce 400 tonnes of rice per day, would also provide employment for more than 1,000 persons.

    “We have invested N10 billion to put up the rice mill as a multi-national company that has linkages in almost all the West African countries.

    “We also have links with major marketers and manufacturers of agricultural products,’’ he added.
