    Anxiety as man commits suicide in Abuja

    • Police yet to give official statement on the incident

    Residents of the Kagini area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were, on Friday, thrown into confusion when a young man identified simply as IK allegedly took his own life inside his house.

    The incident, which occurred early hours of Friday, came to public attention after a video was posted on the verified Facebook page of Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

    In the video, some residents believed to be friends and neighbours of the deceased were seen expressing shock over the incident, questioning why IK would choose to end his life.

    While some mourners speculated that the man may have been driven by personal struggles.

    Others suspected foul play and demanded to see the stool allegedly used in the act.

    As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command had not issued any official statement regarding the development.

    When contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, did not respond to calls and messages put across to her.

    But, a police source who spoke on anonymity, told our correspondent that the investigation is ongoing to ascertain what happened.

    FCT CP orders investigation into shooting of Ilechukwu in Kubwa

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Commissioner of Police (CP), Olatunji Disu, on Sunday ordered a comprehensive investigation into an incident involving the shooting of one David Ilechukwu in Kubwa.

    The police said David Ikechukwu was reportedly shot by yet-to-be-identified gunmen allegedly operating from a tricycle on blue and black uniforms on November 9, 2024.

    A statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine said: “The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to apprehend those responsible and to uncover the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.

    “The FCT Police Command assures the public that a dedicated team of detectives is actively investigating all aspects of the case. This investigation aims to provide clarity and hold those involved accountable for their actions.

    “We urge members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement efforts. The FCT Command is committed to ensuring justice is served and to maintaining the safety of all residents. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses”.
