    Police arrest six wanted armed robbers in Abuja over nightclub attacks, others

    Police officers attached to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested six notorious armed robbery suspects.

    The suspects are linked to a series of violent crimes, particularly around nightclubs and recreational centres within the nation’s capital.

    The robbery suspects are; Suleiman Magaji (25), Abdullahi Abubakar (20), Abubakar Shitu (25), Sani Ibrahim (17), Rabiu Dahiru (19) and Ahmen Abdullahi (26).

    FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this on Sunday said; “On Friday, 17th January 2026, at about 5:45 pm., acting on credible intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to ensure the immediate arrest of the criminal gang.

    “Consequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, DCP Aliyu Abubakar, deployed a discreet intelligence-led operation led by ACP Victor Godfrey, the Commander, Scorpion Squad.

    “The team successfully tracked and raided the gang’s hideout at Dakwa, Dei-Dei area of the FCT, where the suspects were apprehended while planning a fresh attack.

    “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are responsible for several armed robbery incidents within the FCT, including a recent robbery at Crystal Lounge, Wuse II, where a hotel guest was dispossessed of gold jewellery valued at approximately Fifteen Million Naira (₦15,000,000).

    “The stolen items were reportedly sold by the suspects for the sum of One Million Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦1.2 million).

    “During the operation, the following exhibits were recovered: One black toy gun, Local charms, Long and short knives and forty-two (42) bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis-sativa

    “The suspects and exhibits are currently in Police custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

    “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, commended the officers for their professionalism and gallantry.

    “He also appreciated members of the public for the timely and useful information that led to the successful arrest of the suspects.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify patrols and carry out thorough raids on all uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts within their jurisdictions.

    Adewale said the development is in a continued effort to strengthen security and ensure the safety of lives and property across the FCT.

    A statement issued on Tuesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josphine Adeh said, “The directive, which takes immediate effect, forms part of proactive measures to prevent criminals from using abandoned or ongoing construction sites as hideouts or operational bases. Consequently, property developers are urged to visit the nearest police divisions and ensure their security personnel, artisans, and labourers sleeping at active construction sites are properly documented and profiled before the end of October 2025.

    “CP Ajao further ordered that DPOs must conduct regular patrols of such locations and arrest any unidentified persons found on-site after 6:00 p.m. Additionally, the Commissioner reiterated that scavenging activities (popularly known as “Baban Bola”) remain strictly prohibited within the FCT. Residents are advised to report any scavengers or suspicious persons sighted around their neighbourhoods immediately to the police.

    “Emphasising that security is a collective responsibility, CP Adewale called on residents, estate associations, and community leaders to cooperate fully with the police by reporting suspicious movements in their areas, ensuring that all security guards and domestic staff are properly profiled by the police, and avoiding the harbouring of unknown persons within residential premises.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 17 suspected kidnappers and neutralised three others in Abuja in the last two months.

    The suspects were arrested after thorough police investigation and tracking of their activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Adewale Ajao, who disclosed this while addressing reporters yesterday, said the Police Command conducted a thorough crime-mapping, identified crime hotspots and implemented an action plan which led to their arrests and other successes recorded between May and June, 2025.

    Ajao further explained that during the months under review, a total of 49 cases were reported, leading to the arrest of 82 suspects in total for various crimes by operatives of the FCT Police Command.

    The police report also revealed that five reported cases of attempted kidnapping – one in Apo and four in Kubwa – were recorded, while four vehicles, jack-knife, military camouflage and pistol ammunition were recovered in the process.

    On the cases of armed robbery, the police report showed that five suspected cases were recorded between May and June while 17 suspects were arrested.

    The Police Commissioner also said four cases of child trafficking were recorded in the months under review while eight suspects were arrested.

    The police recovered three AK 47 rifles with three magazines, one locally made pistol and magazine, one beretta pistol, one pump action shotgun, two LAR rifles and 36 rounds of live ammunition in the same period.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command Anti-kidnapping Unit has neutralised seven kidnappers, nine armed robbers and arrested 10.

     The kidnappers were killed in a shootout with operatives during a raid on Sardauna Forest in the border community between Nasarawa State and the FCT.

    These included the 300 suspects arrested by the Police last month for crimes, including armed robbery, cultism, vandalism of critical infrastructure, drugs peddling, one chance and gun running, among others.

    Among those arrested are 59 suspects for armed robbery, 10 for kidnapping, 16 for cultism.

    The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, who broke the news, said the operations led to the recovery of  weapons and illicit substances, including 18 AK-47 rifles, 23 AK-47 Magazines, two CZ scorpion A1 Rifles with Magazines, nine English pistols, and seven Pistol Magazines

    Others were two Dane guns, 116 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 102 rounds of .9mm live ammunition, seven live cartridges and one expended cartridge shell, seven local pistols, four local shotguns, three axes, four cutlasses, 15 daggers, nine pairs of scissors, 31 bottles of codeine syrup.

    Several small packages containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, quantities of small glue tubes (inhaled as intoxicants), bags containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, local bongs, N35,050 and cards of Rohypnol

    Disu said: “In our sustained effort to rid the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of crime and criminal elements, the FCT Police Command carried out a series of high-impact raids from January 1st to February 28th, 2025.

    “These decisive actions, driven by intelligence and executed with tactical precision, led to the arrest of 300 suspects and the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and illicit substances.’’

    The Command’s tactical teams raided identified criminal hideouts, black spots and high-risk locations at Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karimo, and Maitama as well as conducted anti-kidnapping clearance at border villages and communities.

    They include FCT – Kaduna border where raids were conducted at Gidan-Dogo village and Kweri Forest, FCT – Niger Forest where clearance was executed at Gauraka Forest and FCT – Nasarawa Forest where raids were launched at Sardauna forest.

    “The FCT Police Command remains resolute in its mission to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety. These operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure that criminals have no hiding place within the FCT,” he said.

    He commended the officers and tactical teams involved for their professionalism, bravery, and dedication to duty even as he urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely information and reporting suspicious activities.

    Disu said: “The Command assures the public that suspects in custody will be investigated and duly prosecuted.”

    After an intense raid of abandoned buildings across the nation’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has arrested 245 suspects over criminal activities.

    The police said between February 6 and 23, 2025, the Command conducted a series of intelligence-led raid operations targeting criminal hideouts, black spots, and abandoned buildings throughout the territory.

    The development, the police said, is in an effort to enhance security across the FCT.

    According to a statement on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josphine Adeh: “These high-impact operations, executed with precision focused on crime-prone areas including Kurudu, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Wuye, Galadimawa, Iddo, Kuje, Apo, Zuba, Asokoro, Karshi, Karu, Byazhin, and other strategic locations.

    “As a result, a total of two hundred and forty-five (245) suspects were apprehended. These individuals are currently undergoing thorough profiling and screening. Those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

    “The operations led to the recovery of a substantial cache of dangerous weapons, illicit substances, and items linked to criminal activities, including:

    • A large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
    • Three (3) axes and three (3) machetes, often used in violent crimes.
    • Six (6) small tubes of glue.
    • Five (5) handmade bongs, materials commonly associated with substance abuse.
    • Eight (8) pairs of scissors.
    • Five (5) ID cards.
    • Several small transparent plastic containers and various pills suspected to be illicit substances.

    “The Command has also heightened surveillance on abandoned buildings and isolated areas identified as potential hideouts for criminals. Intelligence reports indicate that some of these structures are being misused for illicit activities, including drug abuse and organized crime.

    “To address this trend, security checks have been intensified on such structures, and several have been raided and cleared of illegal occupants. Property owners are strongly advised to secure their buildings to prevent misuse, while relevant government agencies are encouraged to expedite necessary actions to tackle this growing concern.

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested suspects allegedly involved in the killing of three persons in Byazhin.

    A statement on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said: “The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has restored normalcy in Byazhin following an incident that occurred on May 14, 2024, behind LEA Primary School, where it was reported that a group of scavengers (baban-bola) waylaid some passersby, forcibly collecting their valuables”.

    Police explained that a courageous lady resisted the scavengers leading to a violent attack by the hoodlums, resulting in severe machete injuries.

    She said: “The FCT Police Command swiftly responded to the situation, making arrests of several suspects who are currently being interrogated to ascertain their complicity or otherwise.

    “While reassuring residents that the situation is under control and normalcy has been restored, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igwe, psc, mni, encourages all residents to continue their lawful activities without fear, as adequate measures have been emplaced to prevent the recurrence of such incidents”.

    Police arrest another wanted kidnap kingpin in Abuja

    Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command, have arrested one Samaila Wakili Fata aka Habu Ibrahim, a kidnap kingpin who has been on the wanted list of the command for a long time.

    The police, acting on credible intelligence, said the operatives stormed Sardauna Forest, Toto, Nasarawa State and arrested Ibrahim on February 24, around 7:05pm.

    Habu Ibrahim was the second person and the gang leader who is one of the most wanted suspects of the kidnapping syndicate paraded by the Police Command some weeks ago.

    Recall the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had announced a N20 million bounty on two criminals terrorizing residents of the territory, dead or alive.

    One Saidu Abdulkadir popularly known as Dahiru Adamu was the first kidnap kingpin on the wanted list who was arrested by the police command.

    Wike announced the bounty while speaking at the Police Command in FCT, where 15 arrested suspected kidnappers and one chance rubbers were paraded.

    The bounty was in response to the Police Commissioner’s remarks that two other criminals were still on the run, adding that the police were on their trail.

    A statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said: “The operatives of the FCT Police Command, in a continued effort against banditry in FCT and its environs, on February 24, 2024 at about 7:05pm, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Sardauna Forest, Toto, Nasarawa State and arrested one Samaila Wakili Fafa A.K.A Habu Ibrahim, a kidnap kingpin who has been on the wanted list of the Command for a long time and bounty placed on his head by the Hon. Minister FCT.

    “The suspect is one of the two kidnappers the Honorable Minister FCT placed a bounty on, as the other one namely Saidu Abdulkadir A.K.A Dahiru Adamu, had earlier been arrested by the Command.”

    Adeh said Ibrahim had confessed that his syndicate masterminded and executed several kidnappings in FCT and its environs, including the abduction of Barr. Chris Agidy, the legal aid to Senator Ned Nwoko and Mr Sunday Yahaya Zakwai, the district head of Ketti Village who were later killed by them.

    Samaila Wakili further led police operatives to where the remains of Barr. Chris Agidy is.

    She said the remains were recovered and deposited in Gwagwalada General Hospital.

    Adeh said while investigation is still ongoing, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh: “Wishes to reiterate his unflinching commitment to combat crime and criminality in all its manifestations and to ensure safety of residents.     Policemen attached to the Department of Force Intelligence of the Intelligence Response Team have killed a notorious bandit, Isa Dei-Dei, in Abuja, after storming the hideout of a bandit group in the suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

    Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Wednesday noted that while only Dei-Dei was neutralised, some other members of the gang sustained bullet injuries.

    He said: “At about 10:15 am on February 5, 2024, operatives of the DFI-IRT, acting on intelligence, got information on the hideout of a notorious bandit group led by one Isa Dei-Dei, in the suburb of the FCT, and immediately proceeded to the location for possible arrests.

    “Upon closing in on them, they (bandits) sighted the police and fled. The operatives immediately went after them, which led to a fierce gun duel. In the process, the notorious Isa Dei-Dei was neutralised while other members of the syndicate managed to escape with gunshot injuries.

    “We therefore urge members of the public, most especially medical practitioners, to call our attention to anyone or patients seen with gunshot wounds for further investigation.”

    The nation’s capital since December 2023 has experienced incessant kidnapping incident which has caused sleepless nights for residents especially those in rural areas.

    The latest abduction in Abuja took place in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council involving two teenage sisters.

    Also, police operatives from the FCT Command arrested a 20-year-old kidnap kingpin, Buhari Muhammad, and five others in a hotel in Abuja.

    The suspects who were arrested following intelligence on their activities were said to have kidnapped one Joshua Eze.

    Eze who was abducted on January 27 was subsequently rescued unhurt by police operatives of the command on January 28, 2024.

    The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Haruna Garba, has reiterated the commitment of the command to sustain the fight against crime and criminality, including kidnapping and others in the FCT. 

    The CP gave the assurance yesterday when operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, in a joint effort with other security agencies, rescued two kidnapped victims – James Paul and Austin Oba, both male from Kobi Sarki Village, Abuja. 

    The victims were abducted by kidnappers on Monday.

    He said the command had witnessed relative peace and commendable reduction in crime rate in recent times.

    The police noted that police operatives swung into action, upon receipt of the distress call, and trailed the criminals to their hideout, among other operational and strategic policing efforts, leading to the rescue of the victims.

    According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the victims have since been reunited with their family after being confirmed stabilised by a medical expert.

    Adeh said the CP called for calm, assuring people that “this isolated case will be investigated and confronted appropriately to ensure any further threat to lives and property of residents is mitigated or promptly addressed. 

    He reiterated the commitment of the police and security community in the state to improve public safety in the FCT and keep the people safe.
