  • ANRP promises to deliver on manifesto

Ogun State Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) governorship candidate Adewale Omoniyi has said no godfather will dictate to him on how to manage resource of the state if elected governor.

Addressing newsmen on his chances at the March 2 governorship election, Omoniyi said the people of the state have confidence in him to deliver on campaign promises.

He added that Ogun people have asses all the parties’ governorship candidate before pitching their tent with him, noting that no godfather would come between him and the people.

According to him, almost all the candidates and parties have one godfather or the other pushing for them ahead of the poll except him, adding that though he has mentors guiding him, he will only be responsible and accountable to the people of Ogun State as governor.

While stating that his OGUN (Organise, Grow, Unite and Network) agenda for the state is an all-encompassing programme that would bring a new lease of life to the young and old in the state, the Data Scientist averred that his government would build an inclusive system of job creation, improved security, among others.

He said, “The insinuation that every candidate has one godfather or the other is not true because I don’t have a godfather, the Almighty God is my godfather and the good people of our dear state. I will not be answerable to a godfather but to God and the good people of our state and that is why I am seeking their support ahead of the election.

He added: “Our plans for the state are conspicuous in our manifesto and we will fulfil our promises because we have the character of integrity as individuals and as a party. The ANRP has no political baggage like other political parties.”

He called on credible organisations and professional bodies to take the lead in putting the engagement together, adding that electorates must be given the opportunity to evaluate the strength and plan of those planning to lead them.

  • Ogun 2019: ‘Multiple guber aspirants from Yewa room for best person to emerge’

Former aide of ex – Deputy Governor Salmot Badru, Mr. Omoniyi Adewale, on Monday declared that the phenomenon of many governorship aspirants from Ogun West jostling to succeed Governor Ibikunle Amosun in 2019 should be seen as an advantage and not a setback to the zone’s governorship aspiration.

Adewale who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP), said the zone wants its “best and acceptable” person to emerge as governorship candidate in 2019, adding that the only way to make that happen is to allow every Yewa son or daughter to exercise the right to aspire.

The statistician and Data scientist who hailed from Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state, made this known in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, during interactions with reporters.

He said it is not enough to say that the Ogun West people deserve to produce the next governor, the quest, he added, should also be matched with commitment to present the right candidate that would be acceptable by every section of the state.

He said he elected to join the race to overhaul the governance system in Ogun State, pledging to run a data – based government if given the mandate to lead.

Adewale admitted that Governor Ibikunle Amosun has done his best to move Ogun State forward but said the Governor’s “best was not good enough for the people and the state.”

He expressed the fear that true growth and development may continue to elude the state unless conscious efforts are made to build governance, policy planning and execution on accurate knowledge of the people.

He lamented that the challenges facing the state resulted from the fact that the state is yet to be “built on solid foundation” where governance system is driven by accurate and valid data about the people.

He said he would change all that, build Ogun State Registration System Database everybody and companies, adding that such information would help in jobs creation for the youths through internships, apprenticeship and entrepreneurship.

“How much do we know Ogun state, it is not about knowing, we are just talking of 7. 2 million people. Somebody cannot just sit down in an office and determines the fate of people without knowing them individually?

“How do you know people individually? It is by having their information. Where are they located? What do they do? That is why we keep talking about data.

“Data is very important. On that basis, that is where we are going to build our government on. There should be a system that should be to take care these things,” he said.

  • Aspiring Representative urges Nigerians to get involved in politics

The Director of The Thoughtful House Autism Foundation and the Creative Learning International School, Mr. Omagbitse Barrow, who has declared intention of running for the House of Representatives for the AMAC-Bwari Federal Constituency, urged all Nigerians to become more involved in politics.

Mr. Barrow said this during a media parley themed ‘Let’s Get Involved’ in Abuja on Monday, where he announced his affiliation with the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP).

He said that Nigeria’s biggest problem is that “forward-thinking Nigerians are too busy trying to build their own private empires and get out of the cycle of poverty so that they can live a better life and are not interested in getting involved in vying for political office itself.”

Mr. Barrow emphasized the need for a Nigerian renaissance in order to push the country forward.

“There is no country in the world that is going to change if the forward-thinking people of that country do not get involved,” he said.

“The result is that we will continue to get the third-rate leaders that we deserve, and in spite of the personal progress we make, we will not make much progress as a society, because inevitably, the fish rots from the head.

“My clarion call is to all Nigerians who believe that they are forward-thinking and are truly desirous of a better nation and a better society for ourselves and our children.

He also implored citizens to begin to play politics on real key issues, and get beyond ethnicity, religion, and money politics.

According to Mr. Barrow said his team will be reaching out to Nigerians for periodic contributions of affordable amounts of money rather than godfathers.

“These ‘god-fathers’- moneybags – will in turn hold politicians ransom and steal their souls once they get to the National Assembly.

“Thus, crowd-funding is an integral part of our approach. The people become shareholders to the candidate.

“If 10,000 forward-thinking Nigerians donate N10,000, that amounts to N100m which is more than enough for our campaign.”

National President, Unemployed Youths Association of Nigeria (UYAN), Gabriel Abah, who also spoke on the occasion, reiterated in an interview that youths should play a bigger role in the governance of the country.

“We are looking for youths who are committed to the plight of this nation, youths who are willing and ready to make a difference, especially in the political space.

“Also, involving ourselves in politics will create jobs for the unemployed because there are plenty of opportunities in politics.

“When we plant one of our own youth into offices such as a councilor, LGA chairman, representative, etc., you will see that there will be opportunities for the unemployed because we have a representative, someone that will speak for us.

“We do not have representations, so we are looking for vibrant youths who have what it takes to deliver.”

  • How Abacha loot should be spent-ANRP

Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) on Friday advised the Federal Government to invest the Abacha loot on human development such as healthcare and education.

Mr Sesugh Akume, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, gave the advice in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

“Such a large amount can also be invested in upgrading and equipping at the National Hospital, Abuja and other federal government hospitals across the country many of which are at various states of dysfunction and dilapidation.

“This amount could also be positioned as counterpart funding toward public-private partnerships to upgrade General Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) all across the federation.

“Government can also use the amount set up schemes that make drugs and medical supplies readily available on a sustainable basis,’’ the national publicity secretary said.

He said that by so doing, the healthcare sector would be functional such that many Nigerians going abroad for medical treatment would be attended to in the country with less bills, compared to what obtained abroad.

The party also urged that the loot be used to improve the education sector with a view to ensuring that children of the poor enrol in schools to receive quality education.

The Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reform, Juliet Nwagwu, had at a News conference in Abuja, confirmed federal government decision to share the money put at $322 million.

‘’Nobody is going give anybody any cash; it is going be through an electronic payment system which we want Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to verify,’’ she said.

“The party has expressed deep concern that whereas, conditional cash transfers are a palliative for people living in extreme poverty to cushion the effect, it has never lifted up the poor out of poverty,” Akume said.

He said well equipped healthcare facilities  would also give the poor in the society to have access to good healthcare.

Akume said the party disagreed with Federal Government decision to share the money because previously recovered loot ended up being re-looted.

He, however, said the money should not be spent without recourse to the National Assembly.
