A prominent Islamic body, the Academy of Islamic Propagation (ACADIP), has bemoaned the unrestricted use of social media.
The body also lamented the alarming trend of individuals using social media for defamation and character assassination, often crossing ethical and legal boundaries.
The founder of the body, Yusuf Adepoju, addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Wednesday to commemorate ACADIP’s 30th anniversary, stated that some online content has crossed the legal line, thus impugning other people’s rights.

According to him, regarding the issue of social media, we are using social media without restrictions; there is no regulation in place for social media, and that is why it is being abused. By the time you listen to and watch their videos, you will understand that such individuals have crossed the line and engaged in defamation.
“And let me tell you that both Mallam and ACADIP, as a body, are being attacked as well, but we have a way to protect ourselves, and that is why it is not so severe. We know the way to the court; if you misbehave, we’ll take you to court. We don’t engage in fracas with anybody. Stop defaming us; stop defaming ACADIP.”
Speaking about the body, he said, “ACADIP has made a significant impact in consolidating Islamic beliefs over the last 30 years in 25 countries, including Europe, America, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and more. We’ve recorded no fewer than 15,000 reverts and returnees to Islam.
