Three die in Enugu accident
Three persons were feared dead on Saturday in an accident involving two vehicles at the 9th mile corner, a suburb of Enugu.
Several others were injured.
The vehicles, a Hiace mini bus conveying passengers from Onitsha was said to have rammed into a stationary commercial pick up van.
Confirming the incident, police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the nearby St. Saviors Hospital, Enugu.

Accident mystery: Car somersaults, lands on three vehicles
A Honda CRV car somersaulted several times on Burma Road in Sabon Gari area of Kano and mysteriously ended up atop three vehicles parked in front of a residential building.
The road mishap occurred between 11-12 mid night on Monday, while most of the residents were about to go to bed and had already parked their vehicles after a hard day’s job.
However, it is still a mystery that the driver of the ill-fated driver escaped with only a minor injury, but his vehicle was extensively damaged.
Shortly after the accident, the bewildered driver told residents at the scene of the crash that all he could recall or remember was that “I saw a herd of sheep crossing the road and in an attempt to avoid them, I veered off the road and my vehicle somersaulted several times and ended atop three parked vehicles.
”I saw an animal, which looks like an elephant, including lions and other species of other animals crossing the road and in attempt to avoid them, I became confused while they were crossing the road at such an odd hour between 11-12 pm while on my way home. Before I could realize what was happening, I just heard a loud voice and later found myself atop the roof of my CRV car.”
According to a witness, the driver of the CRV Honda car said while on his way home, he got a phone call that his children were crying inside the house because his wife was not at home and he locked-up the children inside the house.
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and police officers have since inspected the scene of the crash and towed the damaged vehicles to their station for further investigation.

Matuidi on Onazi: It was an accident
France midfielder Blaise Matuidi will not change the way he plays even after narrowly avoiding being sent off in their World Cup last-16 game against Nigeria.
Many feel Matuidi’s rash challenge on Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, was deserving of a red card, but the midfielder only receieved a yellow card, while FIFA announced they will not sanction the 27-year-old any further.
“That’s the only way i know how to play, I can’t change or alter it at this stage of my career, I will never intentional go all out to injure anybody and what happen between me and Onazi was an accident, which made me feel bad.”
Speaking on today’s game against Germany, the Paris Saint-Germain midfield man said both teams have equal opportunities of winning the quarter final tie.
“On that evening on Friday there are no favourites. We will make it hard for them and we want to advance.”

Six die in road accident
Six people, including two students of the Bells Secondary School, Ota in Ogun State, died on Saturday in an accident on the Ife-Ibadan road.
It was learnt that pupils of the school were returning from an excursion to Abuja in a Toyota Hiace bus, marked Ogun AP 555 TP, when the accident occurred.
According to a source in the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, the accident occurred around 6:30pm in Ikire.
It was learnt that one of the bus’ rear tyres burst.
The driver was critically injured.
FRSC officials and men of the Osun Ambulance Service were said to have taken the injured to the General Hospital, Ikire, and deposited the bodies in the hospital’s morgue.
An FRSC source, who did not want to be named, said the management of Bells Secondary School, in a telephone conversation, confirmed that some pupils went on excursion.

Club moves to prevent accident
Members of the Rotaract Club of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto have drawn Zebra Crossing mark on the busy university road to prevent accident.
The initiative, which was part of the club’s agenda for the year, began at Dandima Bus Stop. The students also moved to the City Campus area to carry out the exercise.
The club members said the move was aimed at reducing accident accidents on campus.
The club’s president, Isa Dangulbi, said the project was to contribute to the socio-economic development of university. “We organised this project to invest in Sokoto because we believed that youths are the eyes of today and future of any society; our aim is service to humanity,” he stated.
The Staff Adviser, Dr Danjuma Abubakar, praised members of the club for the project. He said: “It is a privilege for young people to come together, organise and accomplish a successful project like this. This is a step in the right direction.”
A student said disorganisation and impatience were responsible for accidents on the roads, saying he project would help to reduce the rate of accident on the roads.
At the inauguration of the project Dr Abubakar, Dangulbi, Vice President Shukurat Lawal, former president of the club, Sunday Oche, Administrative District Representative, Olalekan Olaniyi and students.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were drafted to co-ordinate traffic on the road while the exercise was going on.
