    Accolades for welding firm

Mudiame International Limited, a welding company based in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has been praised for its development of local content in the oil and gas sector.

Captains of industries and the representatives of  the Executive Secretary Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Managing Director, Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited, President, Nigeria Institute of Welding (NIW) and others witnessed  the commissioning of Mudiame Ultra Modern World Class Welding Laboratory.

Mudiame International Limited, a subsidiary of Mudiame Welding Institute located at Igbo-Etche Road, Rumuokwurushi in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. It has trained many youths in different welding capacities. The company was established in 2013 to provide training on courses leading to the certification in international welding in line with International Institute of Welding (IIW).

The  Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Mr. Denzil Kentebe, who was represented at the occasion by NCDMB Capacity Manager, Frank  Ibi, said the vision of Mudiame would boost Nigeria economy.

He said with what he saw during the facility tour Mudiame vision would assist the government and industries in achieving local competency and skill capacity building.

Ibi said:  “This is one of the projects that can contribute to minimize youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region. Once the people of this community recognise that there is something of this nature here they can source a way to empower themselves. The training here is of international standard, who ever that graduated here is made for life. All we need in this country is infrastructure because with this we can empower the youths.   There are other parameters that we use to judge establishment. Local content is about everything like marine, engineering, engaging of personnel etc, but   it is a gradual process.”

The President, Nigerian Institute of Welding, Dr. Solomon Edebiri, said welding was a major market of the economy. He said the company had observed the huge gap in the oil and gas industries where competent Nigeria welding engineers and welders were lacking and the huge cost of attending training abroad. “And that became a burden for Mudiame to establish this institution,” he said.

Edebiri said his organisation was engaging with companies operating in Nigeria to ensure that trained Nigerian welders or welding engineers were given opportunity and respectfully treated. “This is a great opportunity to boost our economy; days are gone when we see lawyers or medical doctors as a major market. Today welding is the right place to go. To show you that we are advancing, Mudiame offers about ninety percent of laboratory testing services required in the Oil and Gas sector. And with the certificate in International Welding Engineer (IWE) International Welding Technologist (IWT) International Welding Specialist (IWS), International Welding Practitioner (IWP) International Welding Inspection (IWP) and International Welder (IW); This shows that the company is ready to assist Nigerian government in agricultural policy through agricultural equipments. Of course,   before now these are training you get abroad but today you can get them here in Nigeria.”

The Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mudiame International Limited, Mr. Sunny Eromosele,  said he was delighted to have companies like Saipem, Aveon, Offshore, FMC Technologies, Mobil,  GE Oil and Gas, Total, SPDC and others    supporting his dream.

He said:  “It gives me great joy and deep sense of fulfillment to stand here to welcome you to this all-important event in the history of Mudiame International Limited. What we have today is a reality of yesterday‘s dream, and it will remain green in my memory. I appreciate God for his grace and mercy as I welcome you to the official commissioning of Mudiame Ultra-Modern Laboratory and the Graduation ceremony of Mudiame Welding Institute’s International Welding Engineer (IWE) students. Mudiame International Limited started in a very small way with great challenges and limitations .Keeping faith with destiny and taking solace in the book of Luke chapter 1:37 which says ‘’for with God nothing shall be impossible” we surmounted the challenges and broke the jinx.

“Our vision to be a leader in the Laboratory Testing Services led to the quest to have this facility seen here today which is a one stop laboratory where all various tests required in the Oil and Gas industry as well as Allied industries can readily be obtained instead of going outside the country to perform  such tests. It will also interest you to note that Mudiame has gone beyond offering services to her clients to developing competent International Welding Engineers that can compete with our foreign folks in the Oil and Gas industry in order to fill in the gap where Nigerians are lacking, participating in the welding designs on Nigerian project as it has been in the past years.”

  • Accolades for City People Publisher at 50

Accolades for City People Publisher at 50

City People Publisher  Seye Kehinde stood tall in Lagos last Friday when he turned 50. Two governors, a senator, a socialite and a fellow publisher spoke glowingly about him at the thanksgiving service/reception. It was all at the Times Square Events Centre on Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos State. OLATUNDE ODEBIYI and IBRAHIM ADAM reports.

BEYOND being publisher of the highflying soft-sell journal, City People, who is Dr Seye Kehinde as a person? Eminent Nigerians, including Governors Babatunde Fashola (Lagos) and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Erelu Abiola Dosumu, Senator Ganiyu Solomon and Leadership Publisher Sam Nda-Isaiah wrote his testimonial when he turned 50 last Friday. They described him as humble, cultured and hardworking.

The parking lot of Times Square Events Centre in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja Lagos, venue of the event, was filled with exotic cars. Others parked on the roadside.

Banners greeting the celebrator at 50 adorned the hall’s entrance.

Guests looked chic in classic traditional attires. The women made fashion statements with their stylish head gears.

Women in gold sequenced tops on black pencil trousers welcomed guests. The hall  was decorated in gold and wine

The celebrator wore gold native attire. He was all smiles as he went round to greeting  and taking pictures with guests.

It all began with a service officiated by Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria Rev Sunday Makinde.

At the reception, Gbenga Adeyinka, dished out rib-cracking jokes as Master of Ceremony.

Amosun supervised the cutting of the cake. The celebrator was assisted by some of his family members and distinguished friends to cut the cake after a random count of 50.

Kehinde said he is happy he made it to 50, adding that he did not feel any different.

He said: “Life is interesting at 50. I never knew it was this easy to be 50, because I see people of 50 as old men but now that I am 50, I have joined the club and I will continue to do what I am doing and be who I am.”

Amosun described him as  hardworking, urging him to work harder.

Fashola said the celebrator has contributed to the development of Lagos State.

Kehinde, he said, was one of those who first interviewed him in any political manner when he refused to grant interview during his four years as Chief of Staff in Lagos.

The governor described him as humble, easy to be with and polite.

The governor said: “Tonight, we celebrate Seye Kehinde and City People because City People is Seye Kehinde and Seye Kehinde is City People. I find it easy to associate with this brand because he was one of the people who first interviewed me in any political manner because it was the period I served as the Chief of Staff when I refused to grant any interview for four years that I was in the Governor’s Office but in the heat of the campaign, somehow, Mr Kehinde tracked me down around 11pm. When I picked my phone, he said, ‘but they say you sleep at 7pm’. I said no, I don’t sleep until around 1am normally and we had the interview.

“He has been supportive; he has been critical, that is unusual of the tabloid he runs. He has above all extremely contributed to development. On behalf of the government and the people of Lagos State and on behalf of my family, I wish you a happy birthday, I wish you many happy returns, I wish you long life but more profoundly, I wish you  sound, solid and robust health. I hope all your team will continue to prosper; I’m sure that you will be around for a long time and the City People will be around for a long time.”

Abiola Dosumu described Kehinde as “a good and nice young man”.

Kehinde, she said, has just begun life at 50, wishing him the best in his endeavour.

The Erelu of Lagos prayed that City People “will grow from strength to strength and continue to be a perfect example of a successful soft sell magazine that can progress without demeaning humanity.”

Senator Solomon said the celebrator has made a mark in his profession.

He described him as a forthcoming journalist, a role model, a gentle man and a jolly good fellow.

Nda-Isaiah also described Kehinde as hardworking, and a role model. “He loves Nigeria and has created a very good brand, not just a soft sell, but one of the biggest brands in Nigeria.”

  • Accolades for ‘great’ missionary Ruth Elton at 80

Accolades for ‘great’ missionary Ruth Elton at 80

Christian faithful from across Nigeria gathered at Ilesa, Osun State to celebrate the 80th birthday of a renowned British missionary, Ruth Elton. ADESOJI ADENIYI was there.

No distance was too long for admirers of Mama Ruth Elton, a British born missionary, particularly those who have benefited from her generosity and benevolence, to be part of her 80th birthday anniversary. ýGuests came from all parts of the federation. They particularly came from towns where Mama Ruth Elton had patiently served in spreading the gospel of the Lord – from Kogi to Ondo, Oyo and Osun States. The celebrant who arrived the shores of Nigeria in 1937, aged three years, when she accompanied her parents  Pa Sydney and Mama Hannah Elton on a missionary journey into the country, was introduced to Christian faith by them. And she proved herself a worthy enthusiastic assistant to her parents in spreading the gospel in many parts of the country, particularly rural communities, where residents were yet to hear of the words of the Lord.

The King’s Event Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, the venue of the thanksgiving service and reception, three Saturdays ago was filled to capacity. Adorned in their best attire, the guests paid glowing tribute to ýthe woman described by the preacher at the ceremony, Rev. Mike Oye, as smallish in stature but giant in faith.

After Pastor Joseph Ali said the opening prayer, Rev. Oyeý said he had known Mama Ruth for four to five decades and could testify to her selfless service in the vineyard of the Lord.ý Quoting from the Bible, Revelation 7:9, he said the Church’s mission, by God’s design, is to save lives but lamented that the Church today, particularly the Pentecostal pastors, had derailed and abandoned this path, instead raising selfish, self centered and disobedient members. The cleric said Mama Ruth understood the need to save the perished and those lost in darkness. Rev. Oye said the celebrant knew that the redemption of the world cost the Lord His blood and, therefore,ý was prepared to do same for the people.

The preacher said: “How to know the love of God is to be prepared to die to save lives. In God’s words we are made to know that ‘That He laid down His life for us to live.’ So we too, like Mama Ruth, must be ready to lay ours too for others to live. Ruth was raised by wonderful parents. They came to suffer, to teach, to help people, first class evangelists. Ruth was raised in an environment of love. She grew under parents who lived by God’s principles.”

Speaking further, Rev. Oye said there was an urgent need to raise children in the fear of God just as Timothy’s parents in the Bible and Ruth’s parents had done. He said Mama Ruth’s parents emphasis was not on material values but promoting Christian standards.ý Chiding Christians, who laid back and did nothing about the insurgency of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group ravaging the north eastern part of the country, he said “soldiers don’t sit, they go to fight, they suffer, and come back to shine after conquering the enemies.ý”

“Boko Haram don’t sit they go to fight, soldiers don’t sit but must go and conquer. I pity those who say Boko Haram can’t come to them in other parts of the country before the rapture. They are coming so it’s important to go out win souls and help others. The problem with us is being disobedient to the words of the Lord. This smallish woman (Mama Ruth) sitting here is a giant of faith, a lioness like David fighting and receiving wounds. One of the reasons why we are not making advances is fear of suffering and love of luxury.ý Even Jesus suffered. If there is any Christian not suffering for (the) faith then something is wrong. Ruth Elton stands out in this regard. The Christians in the South are not talking and doing enough about the evil of Boko Haram in the North. We are not helping the Christians affected by this evil. It is not Pentecostalism but holiness and impeccable character that will speak to people. If not for her patience and courage, Mama Ruth would have gone back to England thirty years ago. She faced great challenges, some of which even threatened her life. So, as Christians, we are to endure persecution, suffering and difficulty.

“If you live for God any where you go you will suffer for righteousness. Look at Daniel’s example in the Bible. So words to take home for all of us here is ‘what profits a man to win the whole world and loses his soul.’ I therefore enjoin you brethren to work hard and endure hardship,” Rev. Mike Oye concluded.

In their tribute, Pastors Sarah and Olubi Johnson of the Scriptures Pasture Christian Centre, Ibadan said: “Mama Elton, by the Spirit, doggedly weathered opposition of indigenous religions, occultists, and even physical violence, to pursue her missionary passion. She has also overcome challenges to her personal health, notably Hepatitis and eye problems both of which were miraculous healed. Once, she was clubbed unconscious by a thief that stole her car but miraculously the car was recovered by an alert policeman.ý Mama Ruth Elton is also involved in training missionaries and sending them to work in rural areas. Sadly however, at this time there are not many volunteers for missionary work. She is concerned that the saints are not passionate enough about getting the job of preaching the gospel of the kingdom done.”

Sam Kputu, the International Director of the Calvary Ministries, said: “There are two ways to spend your life. You either waste or invest it. That life is wasted that is spent just on transient things and ephemeral glories. That life is invested that is spent fulfilling God’s eternal purpose, the redemption of the nation’s. Sister Ruth Elton, like her parents before her, is an example of a life well invested. Many servants of God in Nigeria today as well as many churches and ministries, including ours, Calvary Ministries, are either direct or indirect fruits of the labour of the Eltons in this land.”

According to Emeka and Bade Nwankpaý of the Intercessor For Nigeria: “The story of our lives cannot be told without the testimony of the immeasurable deposit that God made in us using Pa S. G. Elton of blessed memory. We, therefore, appreciate the Elton family more than words can describe.”

Pastor Dejo Akande of the Christ’s Ambassadors Evangelistic Team said: “The contact with Mama Elton encouraged the interest of CAET in missions that culminated in a series of mission trips to the Okene-Keton mission field, beginning fromý 1988. The trip exposed us to great works Mama was doing over the years, especially among the Ebiras, Bassa Komo people and others around the Middle Belt of the country.”

Also, Bishop Joel Ejingwon of theý Gospel Assembly Intercontinental, Agasa-Okene, Kogi State said: “Mama, you have positively affected the lives of the entire Ebira nation and it’s environs through your passion for soul wining. Your labour for the kingdom gave birth to the church now known as the Gospel Assembly Intercontinental.”
