  • Imo: Dead people among those that voted for Ihedioha – Nwosu

The Imo State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the March 23 gubernatorial election, Uche Nwosu, has disclosed that dead people were among those that voted  in the three Local Government Areas of Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Ahiazu in the governorship election.

Nwosu who spoke with some journalists in Owerri, Sunday, stated that forensic investigation carried out on the ballot papers used in the March 23 governorship election revealed that hundreds of dead people were among those that voted for the declared winner of the election and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Emeka Ihedioha, in three aforementioned Council Areas.

The AA candidate, who was granted leave by the Governorship Election Tribunal to inspect the electoral materials, described the findings as shocking and unbelievable.

He disclosed further that what was declared as the final result of the governorship election by the Returning Officer, Prof. Francis Otunta, did not in any way reflect the actual figure as uncovered during the scrutiny of the voting materials and the Card Readers used during the election.

According to him, “it was shocking to discover that dead persons were among those that voted for the PDP candidate, Emeka Ihedioha in Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte and Ahiazu Local Government Areas, where he got unimaginable figures. After the election and the results announced, I made it clear to my supporters that there was no election in Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte. I told them that my results were changed in favour of Ihedioha. After we got Certified True Copies of the election materials, to our greatest surprise, we discovered that hundreds of dead people voted for Ihedioha. We have people who came to tell us that the names of their relations that died long ago were in the list of registered voters and they actually voted.

“We also discovered to our utmost dismay that what the Returning Officer, Prof. Francis Otunta declared was totally different from the total number of registered voters that the Card Reader recorded, especially in those three Local Government Areas. “I have never seen this high level of manipulation and electoral fraud, but I have high hopes in the judiciary and that’s why we are relying on the Tribunal to get justice”.

Nwosu, who said that there were actual voting in the areas where he won, challenged anybody to come out with prove to the contrary.

In his words, “there was credible election in the areas where I won. People voted and the figures were justified. I challenge anybody to go and check the results of the local government areas where I won, unlike the three local government areas aforementioned”.

  • We will back Buhari on NASS leadership – Nwosu

The Imo State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 election,  Uche Ñwosu, has assured that the House of Representatives- elect under the platform of the party will support the choice of President Muhammadu Buhari for the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

AA won three Federal seats in Imo State.

Nwosu who spoke with selected journalists in Imo state also stated that the Reps elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, will also queue behind Femi Gbajabiamila in line with President Buhari’s directive.

The AA candidate, who is currently challenging the Imo governorship election in the Tribunal, noted that the party had an alliance with the APC to support President Buhari’s second term, adding that it will still stand by him on the issue of the National Assembly leadership.

According to him, the Southeast played a wrong political card in 2019 and the best way to remedy the situation is to support President Buhari on the current issue of the National Assembly leadership instead of engaging in another political miscalculation that will further complicate its political position.

In his words, “I have been supporting President Buhari before and during the election because of his integrity and uprightness and I will continue to do so irrespective of political or other sentiments.  On the issue of the leadership of the National Assembly, I am with Mr. President one hundred percent,  AA and APC Reps from Omo state will support Femi Gbajabiamila”.

He continued that, “It will not be in the interest of the Igbo to rebel against President Buhari’s choice of the issue of the NASS leadership because as it stands the Southeast can’t get that position by merely shouting, the error has been committed and we should be looking at  the possible ways of remedying it. I remember that our leader, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was shouting during the election on the need to vote President Buhari and remain in mainstream politics but our people refused and preferred regional politics instead.

“In 2019 we played wrong politics like we did in 2015, where we decided to look the other way, forgetting that the main thing comes from the national, so making wild claims and shouting about the leadership of the National Assembly now is a big problem because what did we being to the table in the first place. The state governor Rochas Okorocha has been shounting that we should not make the same mistake we made in 2015 so that we can be part of the system in 2019. So I agree with Mr. President totally, our people in the Federal House of Representatives should listen to whatever the President says, this is the time to support him, we should learn from our mistakes.

“I urge them to support President Buhari, if he has endorsed Femi Gbajabiamila,  they should queue behind him, which is the best thing to do”.

  • Nwosu vows to reclaim mandate in Imo

The Imo State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Uche Nwosu, has said the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, as the governor-elect, did not meet constitutional requirements and therefore unacceptable.

He vowed to challenge the results in court, saying the declaration violated provisions of the Constitution.

According to him, INEC did not comply with the guidelines when it announced Ihedioha winner of the election. He reiterated that Ihedioha didn’t meet the constitutional requirement of 25 per cent spread in at least two-third of the number of local government areas where the election held.

He said: “The law is clear on the requirements for declaring somebody winner in an election. The law requires that to be declared a winner, you must have the mandatory spread of 25 per cent win in at least two-thirds majority. In this case, two-thirds of the 27 local government areas of the state is 18, and Ihedioha had 25 per cent spread in only 12 council whereas I have in 15. So it’s clear that INEC has compromised.”

Nwosu added that INEC disregarded its guidelines by recognising the non-use of Card Readers in Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte councils, the stronghold of Ihedioha.

“It is a clear INEC guideline that where a card reader was not used, and accreditation done manually, such results should not be recognised. But in this case INEC violated its own guideline by accepting the results from the three councils,” he added.

Nwosu hoped to get victory at the court.

  • Ihedioha declared Imo governor-elect

Former Deputy Speaker and governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Emeka Ihedioha has been declared the winner of the keenly contested Imo State governorship election by the State Returning Officer,  Prof. Francis Otunta.

  • Nwosu to INEC: don’t declare a winner yet

The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) Uche Nwosu has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withhold the declaration of the winner of the election until the constitutionally outlined provisions are fulfilled.

Nwosu, who addressed journalists via a telephone chat, noted the leading candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, to be declared a winner must have met the mandatory 25 percent votes in at least two-third in the number of Local Government Areas where the election held.

According to  him: “The constitution is clear that for a candidate to be declared a winner he must have the mandatory 25 per cent spread in at least two-thirds of the number of local government areas in the state.

“In this instance, the candidate of DP did not meet this requirement as he scored the mandatory spread in only 12 whereas it should be 18.”

Nwosu also alleged widespread irregularity in the three local government areas of Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu and Ezinihitte.

He wondered why the three local government areas could return such huge numbers in an election marred by voter apathy.

The AA candidate said: “This result is totally unacceptable and I am calling on INEC to declare the election inconclusive and arrange a fresh election within seven days as stipulated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He also frowned at the conduct of INEC officials, who he alleged colluded with the PDP candidate to inflate the figures in the three contentious local government areas.

“The Imo state chapter of the Action Alliance in conjunction with other well-meaning Imo people will deliver no fewer than one million votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in Imo state on Saturday.”

According to him, the State has witnessed relative peace when compared to other states in the Federation, as a result of the “cooperation and support of the people of the state”.

He said, “you will agree with me that this hard-earned peace and tranquillity we enjoy and experience in Imo State should be guarded jealously, thus, we have no other option than to ensure this endures before, during and after the elections”.

In his brief speech, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Pro. Francis Ezeonu, assured that INEC is prepared to conduct credible election that will meet the aspirations of all the parties

  • ‘No amount of blackmail can stop my support for Buhari’

The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Uche Nwosu, has restated that no amount of cheap blackmail will dissuade him and his followers from supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection.

Nwosu who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the controversial governorship primaries, stated that the circumstance that forced him to dump the APC has nothing to do with President Buhari.

He said that his support for the President is beyond personal considerations or party and religious inclinations.

Nwosu argued further that those fighting to get the attention of the President by blackmailing him cannot deliver him in their booths because “they are not popular”.

According to him, “Whether they blackmail us or not, the truth is that we have made up our minds to support President Buhari. If I will not be supporting President Buhari, I won’t be putting his pictures on my billboards and campaign posters, otherwise who am I deceiving. We have together with the governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, made up our mind to support President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and nothing can change that.

“In 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari won with a wide margin in my Eziama-Obire Ward and in the 2019 election, despite being the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, I will deliver President Buhari in my Ward but those running to Abuja to blackmail me cannot convince a single person to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari.

“All those carrying the blackmail should come out and show us their supporters that will vote for President Buhari all they are interested in is to use the President’s name and compromise the election because they know that they don’t stand a chance in a free and fair election but that will not work in Imo State”.

He added that those relying on rigging the 2019 governorship election will be disappointed as the people of the state will resist any such attempt.

In his words, “We have implicit trust in the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Marmood Yakubu to deliver a credible election. So those relying on rigging and other malpractices will fail. Imolites will resist any attempt to steal their mandate, the people’s vote must count.

“In fact anybody thinking of rigging the 2019 election is making a big mistake because we will resist it, the youths of Imo state will resist it, the women and the leaders of the state will resist, if you are not popular, you are not popular and INEC knows that it is not possible to write result in Imo state. People should know that the era of sitting at home and writing results is gone
