Liverpool’s Lallana could return in November – Klopp

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana could return from a thigh injury after the conclusion of the next international break early November, the English Premier League club’s manager Juergen Klopp has said.

Lallana, who joined Liverpool from Southampton in July 2014, last played during the team’s pre-season loss to Atletico Madrid in August.

The Merseyside club said the 29-year-old had returned to their training ground on Monday to continue his recovery.

“It’s absolutely good news. I cannot say now, but maybe after the next international break he could be back,” Klopp told the club website (www.liverpoolfc.com).

“It would be fantastic for us, of course. Everybody knows what kind of a quality player he is.”

Liverpool are eighth in the league and travel to Slovenia to face NK Maribor in the Champions League later on Tuesday.

Adam Lallana is set for up to two months on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The England midfielder, who missed part of the back end of last season with a hip problem, will be absent for the start of the Reds’ Premier League campaign after sustaining this latest blow in Wednesday’s Audi Cup final loss to Atletico Madrid.

He will also miss out on their bid to reach the Champions League group stages, having been drawn to face Hoffenheim in the play-offs on Friday.

“This is certainly not news we would have wanted,” Klopp told the club’s official website.

“Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September.

“Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see. He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see.”

According to Klopp’s timescale on Lallana’s recovery, he would miss at least six top-flight matches, including against Arsenal and Manchester City.

Liverpool begin their domestic season at Watford on August 12, while they travel to Hoffenheim three days later and host the Bundesliga club the following Wednesday.

Adam Lallana has signed a new four-year contract at Liverpool worth £150,000-a-week.

The deal keeps the 28-year-old attacking midfielder at Anfield until 2021 and follows that of Philippe Coutinho, who signed a new five-year contract last month.

He has scored seven goals in 27 appearances for Liverpool so far this season and overall has 20 goals in 117 games.

The England international was signed by Brendan Rodgers in a £25million transfer from Southampton in 2014.

His form was inconsistent in his first season at Anfield but under the guidance of Klopp, who replaced Rodgers in October 2015, Lallana has thrived.

The two share a close relationship and Lallana lives next to Klopp in Formby.

‘I see him taking his bins out, we take each other’s mail,’ Lallana told Sportsmail in August.

‘I remember one of his first meetings when he arrived. He told us he was going to be our friend but not our best friend. That’s how it should be.’

He has also established himself as a key member of the England setup.

He scored his first international goal in September with an injury time winner against Slovakia in World Cup qualifying and has 29 caps overall, with three goals.

Liverpool, currently fifth in the Premier League with 49 points from 25 games, are next in action on Monday, February 27 away to Leicester

Adam Lallana gets thigh tattoo honours

An overjoyed Liverpool fan has taken his love for the club’s attacking midfielder Adam Lallana to the next level.

The American fan settled for a breath taking tatoo to celebrate his idol. While football tattoos to honour heroes may now be commonplace, few are as spectacular as this one showcased by the fan named Andreah.

The picture, which surfaced on twitter, came with a caption ‘The pain is worth it to show my love for #AdamLallana and @LFC’.

Lallana himself, who joined the club from Southampton in 2014, has been in fine form as Liverpool mounted a title challenge this season.

But the club has fallen off the pace since the turn of the year, and Lallana said they need to learn from Chelsea, who look set to take the Premier League .

‘You can see they have a lot of experience and that they are used to winning,’ he told the Liverpool Echo.

‘They know how to win games even when not at their best. You don’t have to always win by scoring five or six.

‘Maybe that’s an area we need to improve on. We maybe need to realise how good we are at times.’ Liverpool just fresh from a 2-0 defeat by Hull City had earlier lost three games in a roll, with some predicting that there is no guarantee that the Reds will clinch maximum point when they face visiting Spurs on Saturday

  • Lallana calls for Liverpool unity

    Lallana calls for Liverpool unity

Adam Lallana says Liverpool’s players must “fight for their lives” to turn around the club’s form – starting on Wednesday.

Sunday’s defeat at Crystal Palace was a fourth in succession, and anything but a win at Ludogorets Razgrad could see Brendan Rodgers’ side eliminated from the Champions League before the week is out.

Liverpool great Jamie Carragher led the criticism on Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, accusing Liverpool’s players of allowing themselves to be bullied, while Rodgers has admitted his job could be under threat if results do not improve.

Now Lallana has called on the players to take responsibility, telling the club’s website: “We need to stick together. It’s as simple as that. When you’re having a tough time as a team, you all need to stay together – you can’t start becoming individuals.

“We win and lose as a team; we need to stay together, keep fighting and keep working for each other. We have got a tough game on Wednesday so we all need to be together for that one.Competition

“We need to win to stay in the competition, so the lads will be fighting for their lives to do that. It’s important, not just for ourselves, but for the fans, the manager and everyone involved with Liverpool Football Club.”

Liverpool have already lost as many league games – six – as they did during the whole of last season, when they sustained a title challenge until the final week.

Speaking at Selhurst Park, Rodgers said: “It’s my responsibility as the manager – I put the team out there. We go away bitterly disappointed and we have to very, very quickly put things right. We’ve got a massive game in the week.

“I’m not arrogant enough to think I’ll be in the job through anything – you have to win games, especially after how we’ve been developing as a football club.”

Martinez: Lukaku can become ´best striker in the world´

Everton manager Roberto Martinez heaped praise on striker Romelu Lukaku, claiming he has the ability to become the “best in the world”.

After making a slow start to the 2014-15 Premier League season, Lukaku has returned to the form that saw Martinez spend a club-record £28million to make the Belgium international’s stay at Goodison Park permanent.
