    Adamawa police, NDLEA arrest 130 suspects, seize sundry items

    The Adamawa State commands of the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have announced the arrest of a total of 130 suspects.

    While the state police command said Friday that it nabbed 72 suspects over the past three months, the NDLEA said it arrested 58 drug suspects last month, September 2025.

    The two federal security agencies said in separate news briefings that heightened surveillance and crime-tackling measures made the arrests possible.

    The state Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, said while his command arrested 72 suspects in the last three months, it has charged 57 to court as investigations continue on 15 other cases.

    CP Morris listed the offences for which the arrests were made as kidnapping (nine cases), armed robberies (seven cases), culpable homicide (22), rape and sexual offences (18), theft (nine), Shilla Boys gangsterism (four), and abductions (three cases).

    On his part, the Adamawa State Commander of the NDLEA, Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed that his command arrested 58 drug suspects comprising 56 men and two women; and seized 366.808 kg of cannabis sativa; 209.8 kg of psychotropic substances, and 11.6 kg of methamphetamine & others.

    He said his operatives also confiscated four different types of vehicles and a motorcycle used in the transportation of illicit substances.

    He added that in the Mijilu village of Mubi North LGA, his men destroyed six hectares of a cannabis farm and arrested five suspects associated with the farm.

    He elaborated that among those arrested were two siblings who were bringing 500 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa from Akure in Ondo State en route to Mubi in Adamawa State but were intercepted in Lamurde in southern Adamawa as they made their way towards Mubi.

    He said the arrested siblings are notorious for illicit trafficking in cannabis sativa, and that upon search of their house in Mubi, more cannabis sativa were found and seized.

    “A search into the premises of the dealers in Mubi led to the recovery of 40 other blocks of compressed cannabis sativa,” the NDLEA Commander of Narcotics disclosed.

    Adamawa police arrest man for snatching phone, stabbing victim

    Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a suspect, Usman Abubakar of Shuware Ward, Mubi North LGA, for allegedly snatching a resident’s handset.

    The police command, in a statement on Monday, said the arrest was made on Sunday, February 23, following a complaint by the victim.

    “The arrest of the suspect followed a complaint received on 23/02/2025 from one Hadiza Atiku of Wuro Harde Ward, Mubi North LGA,” the statement, signed by police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje, read.

    Nguroje explained that the complainant reported being attacked while walking near Jambas Hotel, Mubi. 

    The suspect allegedly blocked her path, stabbed her with scissors, and robbed her of her Infinix WOD 9 handset.

    “Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Command attached to Mubi North Divisional police headquarters swiftly moved into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” Nguroje stated.

    He said the stolen Infinix handset, a pair of scissors and a tricycle used in the commission of the crime had been recovered.

    “The suspect is currently in custody aiding investigation,” he added.

    Man arrested for allegedly killing friend, stealing motorcycle

    A man, Yahaya Balarabe, has been arrested by the Adamawa Police Command for allegedly killing his friend and taking possession of his motorcycle.

    The police said in a statement that Balarabe also took from his deceased N20,000  he found on him.

    The statement, signed by Police image maker Suleiman Ngurojs that the 25-year-old Yahaya Balarabe stabbed the friend, identified simply as Usman, untill he died and made away with his things.

    Nguroje stated that the suspect, who hails from Dage Village in Ganye Local Government Area, accompanied the friend to his farm supposedly to assist him in spraying herbicides.

    The suspect instead attacked and killed Usman by stabbing him with a cutlass in the head and throwing the body in a gutter.

    Nguroje said police operatives nabbed Balarabe after Usman’s family members reported the matter and material at the crime scene that linked Balarabe to the crime were recovered. 

    According to the police spokesman, Balarabe also voluntarily confessed to the crime, admitting that he was only interested in having Usman’s motorcycle and money. 

    “The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, expressing concern over the unfortunate incident, commended operatives of Ganye Divisional Police headquarters for detecting the crime and making it impossible for the suspect to escape justice,” Nguroje stated.

    Police nab six in Adamawa over stolen tricycles

    The Adamawa state police command has arrested six people, three from neigbouring Borno state for allegedly receiving stolen tricycles.

    In a statement signed by the state police public relations officer, Suleiman Nguroje, and released to newsmen on Sunday, March 24, the command said the arrests were made last Wednesday, March 20, in what it described as another significant stride in combating tricycle theft.

    According to the statement: “On March 20, 2024, the efforts of officers attached to SCID Yola led to the apprehension of six individuals for the offence of receiving stolen tricycles.” 

    The statement named the suspects as Idi Abdullahi, aged 20 and resident of Rumde Baru, Jimeta, Adamawa state; Mohammad Tukur, 21 years old and resident of Rimergo, in Borno State; and Umar Hassan, aged 33, resident of Rimergo, Borno State.

    The other suspects are Umar Yusha’u, aged 26 and resident of Mubi South in Adamawa State;  Usman Ladan, aged 22, from Rumde Baru in Jimeta, Adamawa State; and Abubakar Idrisa, aged 23, from Rimergo, Borno State.

    “Following thorough investigations conducted, the principal suspects were promptly charged to court and remanded in a correctional centre pending investigation,” the police stated.

    It added that the state commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris Falling, has  commended the dedication by officers of the Anti-Shilla squad for arresting the suspects.

    The CP urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to partner with the Police and security agencies to rid the state of criminals.

    Four policemen kill in Adamawa

    Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the death of four of its men in a clash with gunmen in Numan local government area of the state.

    The command spokesman, Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the incident in Yola, said the four policemen were on patrol when the incident occurred.

    Abubakar said the identity of the gunmen has not been ascertained.

    He said the command was still investigating the incident and has stepped up security in the area with support from the military.

    “We don’t want to work on speculations and I want to urge the public and media to shun rumour mongers and speculations that would further raise tension in Numan and its environs,” Abubakar said.

  • Mob kills policeman for shooting passenger in Adamawa

    A mob on Thursday killed a police inspector along the Wuro-Dole-Pariya Road in Girei local government area of Adamawa State.

    The Spokesman of Adamawa State Police Command, Othman Abubakar, said the incident occurred following a misunderstanding between some bus passengers and a routine patrol team along the road.

    Abubakar, who did not give details of the misunderstanding, said it led to the deceased opening fire which killed one of the passengers.

    He said the late inspector was mobbed to death, adding that the police had recovered his corpse and gun with eight rounds of live ammunition.

    An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Sadiq, said the incident followed a disagreement over a N50 bribe.

    According to him, the driver of the vehicle in which the late passenger was travelling in offered a N50 bribe to the policemen but they insisted on collecting N100.

    He said a passenger challenged them and that led to a hot argument.

    “The deceased policeman shot the passenger and injured another person in the bus.

    “Angry about what happened, a mob attacked the inspector who was trying to escape and lynched him,” Sadiq said.

  • Two missing policemen found dead in Adamawa

    The Police in Adamawa has confirmed that the two Mobile Policemen declared missing on Sunday following an attack on three villages in Demsa local government area of the state have been found dead.

    The Command’s spokesman, Othman Abubakar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Yola that the men were found drowned in a river.

    “They were found dead; drown in the river,” Othman said.

    Othman, who did not give details, said the police was still hunting for the attackers and so far no arrest had been made.

    NAN recalls that the police had on Sunday declared three Mobile Policemen dead with two missing along with four rifles following an attack by suspected herdsmen on Kwayine, Gidan Dadi and Karlahi villages of Demsa local government area.

    The MOPOL were among those drafted to contain tension in the communities after clashes erupted following the killing of 47 cattle in the area.

    The state Governor, Muhammad Bindow, had condemned the attack, which occurred less than 24-hour after a government delegation on peace building mission visited the area.

    The governor in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, directed security agencies to deploy more personnel to the area.

  • Adamawa: Ban on Christmas fireworks still in force – Police

    The Police in Adamawa Police on Wednesday renewed the ban on fireworks during the yuletide period across the state.

    The police issued the warning in a statement issued by the spokesman of the state police command, Othman Abubakar, in Yola.

    Abubakar advised parents and guardians to caution their wards, saying the command would not hesitate to arrest anyone caught selling or using fireworks.

    He listed the ban items to include knockouts, banger and other explosives.

    “The ban on the use of fireworks such as knockouts, banger and other forms of explosives during the Christmas and New Year festive periods is still enforced,” the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the police spokesman as saying in the statement.

    “This callous attitude may cause not only distractions to the general public but may also constitute a security threat and other environmental hazards.

    “The command therefore, advises parents to warn their children and wards to refrain from such ugly trend as police will not hesitate to clamp down on persons caught selling or using these fireworks.”
