  • Adamawa lauds release of Dapchi school girls

    Adamawa Government has expressed joy over the release of Dapchi school girls by Boko Haram.

    Speaking to News men on the development, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ahmad Sajoh, said it was good news to the government.

    “As a government we are indeed very happy, we thank God for the release which signified the beginning of the restoration of confidence in our security operatives,” Sajoh said.

    Also speaking, the member representing Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency, Adamu Kamale said he was happy with the development which he described as “answer to our prayers.”

    “We thank Mr President for his effort and urged for its sustenance to secure the release of others abducted in other places like my constituency,” Kamale said.

    Some students interviewed also expressed happiness over the development and urged government to take more concrete steps to avoid further abduction.

    Five killed in Adamawa attack

    Suspected members of Boko Haram sect on Thursday attacked Kaya village in Madagali local government area of Adamawa State and killed five people.

    The early morning attack came 48 hours after a similar assault on Pallam.

    Three people were killed in that incident.

    Soldiers and local hunters who went after the invaders shoot two of them dead, residents said.

    A member of the House of Representatives from the area, Adamu Kamale, confirmed the attack.

    He said: ‘’I got a distress call early morning (yesterday) that they (Boko Haram) struck again in Kaya village, killing at least five people and others injured.

    ‘’The recent attacks indicate the group is still able to carry out major attacks and has not been defeated despite the successes achieved by Nigerian soldiers in the war.

    ‘‘You know our communities are a stone’s throw from the boundary of Sambisa Forest, the insurgents’ safe haven from where they launched attacks on us.”

    Police confirm killing of four in Adamawa

    The Adamawa Police Command has confirmed the killing of four people at Kamale village in Michika Local Government Area of the state.

    The command’s Spokesman, SP Othman Abubakar, told the newsmen that the member representing Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency, Rep. Adamu Kamale, narrowly escaped the attack.

    Abubakar, who did not give details of the incident, however said that the attack was carried out by unknown gunmen who came with a list, going from house to house calling the names of their victims.

    Abubakar said no arrest was made and that investigation is ongoing.

    Meanwhile, a new Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Yerima, has assumed duty in Yola.

    Yerima, who assumed duty on Friday, was until his appointment the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Armament Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

    Yerima took over from CP Moses Jitoboh.

  • Another PDP member defects to APC

    A member of the House of Representatives from Adamawa State, Adamu Kamale, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Kamale’s defection letter was read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, YakubuDogara, on Tuesday.

    The lawmaker said in the letter that deep division in PDP was responsible for his action.

    Attempts by some PDP members to frustrate the move by faulting Kamale’s action were met with strong reaction from APC members in the House.
