    •President lauds lawmaker’s contributions to national development

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the lawmaker representing Akoko South-East/South-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Adegboyega Adefarati, on his 60th birthday.

    He described the lawmaker as a patriotic leader whose service has strengthened Nigeria’s democratic and economic growth.

    In a statement yesterday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President paid a tribute to Adefarati’s “decades of dedicated service” as a teacher, banker, and committed public servant, noting that these experiences have enriched his contributions to national development.

    President Tinubu praised the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Labour, Productivity and Employment for his pivotal role in promoting industrial harmony, particularly through engagements that foster understanding between the government and labour unions.

    He also lauded Adefarati’s sustained advocacy for legislative action in infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and economic expansion, describing his interventions in the National Assembly as “consistent, credible, and impactful”.

    Wishing the lawmaker good health and renewed strength, the President expressed hope that Adefarati would continue to record greater accomplishments in the years ahead.

    President Tinubu extended warm felicitations to the celebrant, his family, constituents, and associates as they mark the milestone birthday.

    A former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Abiodun Ogunbi, has applauded the lawmaker representing Akoko South West/South East Federal Constituency, Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati, for his continued commitment to the welfare and development of his constituents.

    Ogunbi, a two-term lawmaker and former chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government, described Adefarati as “a strong pillar whose immense contributions to human and community development are immeasurable.”

    He stated this on Tuesday in a congratulatory message to celebrate the federal lawmaker’s birthday.

    Ogunbi particularly commended Adefarati’s plan to empower students in the constituency with laptops and support widows with cash gifts as part of the birthday activities.

    He said the initiative reflects the lawmaker’s dedication to uplifting the lives of the people.

    He urged constituents to continue to demonstrate unalloyed support for Adefarati, noting that his leadership has strengthened the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area and across the state.

    According to Ogunbi, Adefarati’s representation in the House of Representatives has been defined by wisdom, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to unity and progress.

    “His impact is felt not only within the party but across the constituency, the state, and the nation as a guidepost of stability and direction,” he said.

    Constituents commend Adefarati’s representation

    The people of Akoko South West/South East Federal Constituency have commended the lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Adegboyega Adefarati, for showing commitment to their betterment and welfare.

    The constituents said Hon. Adefarati has made an indelible mark on the lives of the youths and students.

    They said Hon. Adefarati has demonstrated dedication to the empowerment of the youth as well as  spearheaded numerous youth empowerment initiatives, provided skill-building opportunities and financial support through bursary awards to ease the educational burden of deserving students.

    A statement by President, Akoko South West Youth Forum, Joseph Ojo Oguntuyi, said Adefarati prioritized renovation and construction of blocks of classrooms in the constituency’s secondary schools.

    Oguntuyi said many youths in the Constituency has been employed in various civil service positions.

    According to him, “Most recently, Hon. Adefarati’s act of compassion and concern for the welfare of his constituents has been demonstrated through the distribution of bags of rice and clothes to the people. This thoughtful gesture has provided much-needed relief and support to families in our society.

    “The people of Akoko South West/ South East Federal Constituency are truly grateful for the unwavering dedication and impactful contributions of Hon. Adefarati.     Associates and friends joined the relations of former Ondo State Governor Adebayo Adefarati for the 10th year anniversary of his demise in Akure, the state capital. Correspondent DAMISI OJO reports.

    The memory of good governance and humility lingers. Many people had a lot of good things to say about him. His virtues were re-echoed recently when people from all walks of life converged to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his passage. To the people of Ondo State, former Governor Adebayo Adeferati was a great man.
    “Baba Peace,” as fondly called by his admirers, was the presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) for the 2007 general election.
    The 10th Memorial Anniversary commenced  with a Holy Communion at the Chapel of Peace, Adefarati Estate, Akungba Akoko, where the family and friends converged to remember the educationist and politician.
    The occasion was organised to remember his good works and  to pray for the family that survived him.
    A novelty football match was played between the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, RUGIPO, at Akure Sport Complex, which ended with a 4-1 victory for FUTA.
    The anniversary lecture was delivered by former governor of Ekiti State and Minister of Natural Resources Dr Kayode Fayemi. It was titled: ‘Justice and Fairness as a Panacea for Peace’.
    Fayemi, x-rayed the causes of crisis in any given society and the role of social lustice and fairness in providing lasting solution to crisis. He noted that Adefarati made social justice possible and that was the essence of his name ‘Baba Peace’. He said that the role he played during the Ilaje and Ijaw feud in Ondo State engendered peace.
    Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said the foundation of progress laid during his tenure, adding that Ondo State become one of the oil producing states.
    Akeredolu said: “Adebayo Adefarati was the first to set up an Agency called OSOPADEC before other states started emulating Ondo State; on this note, we have to celebrate the legend of Ondo State”.
    The governor also commended the contribution of Adefarati to the educational sector, adding that many teachers from the state were sent for special courses in Britain during his tenure.
    Akeredolu described Adefarati as a true Awoist, stressing that true Awoists are not known by the type of cap and dress they put on, but by their actions and deeds.
    He said Adefarati lived before his time as many of the policies he formulated are now coming to reality.
    Akeredolu commended Fayemi for the lecture, saying that it would serve as an eye openers for people at the helms of affair to ensure that justice and fairness were attended to.
    The Chairman of the event, Ade Adetimehin, said the purpose of the occasion was to re-enact the good names and works of Adefarati, saying Adefarati lived no stone unturned to see that the lives of people were positively touched.
    His son,  Gboyega and the widow, Adetutu Adefarati, said the event would linger forever in their memories and commended all those who participated actively in the programme.
    Adefarati was a disciple of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, and Adekunle Ajasin.
    Born on February 14,1931, he started his primary school at the Holy Trinity School, Akungba-Akoko. He also attended Victory College, Ikare and came out in flying colours.
    In 1958, he entered the University College, Ibadan to study History and graduated in 1961 with a honours degree in the arts.
    He went back to the UI in 1965 for his post graduate diploma in Education to become a professional teacher.
    He worked in Ijeshaland, Osun state especially at George Burton College, Ilesa, Atakunmosa High School, Osu and Origbo Community High School, Ipetumodu and Egbeoba High School, Ikole-Ekiti as Principal.
    Adefarati pitched his tent with late Awolowo way back to 1954 at the tender age of 23, making him one of the youngest members of the Action Group (AG) founded by the late sage.
    He joined the Unity Party of Nigeria(UPN)in 1978, following the lifting of the ban on politics by the administration of the Gen Olusegun Obasanjo.
    He rule Ondo state when he won the governorship election on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1999.
    Between 1999 and 2003,when he held the mantle of leadership in the Sunshine State, Adefarati did a lot for the state in all sectors and left behind good legacies.

  • ‘Ondo Varsity hails Adefarati

    Authorities of the Adekunle Ajasin University,Akungba, Akoko(AAUA), Ondo State has extolled the legacies of its founder and former governor,the late Adebayo Adefarati.

    Its Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, gave the commendation when he led the management team of the university to the Akungba residence of the late sage to rejoice with the family on the 10th memorial anniversary.

    Ajibefun said: “We are here on behalf of all members of the university community to felicitate with the entire family of our former Visitor to our university and former governor of Ondo State, the late Chief Adefarati.

    “We really appreciate his courage to have established AAUA without which we wouldn’t have been in here as workers. This legacy that Adefarati left behind would continue to be a pride for not only the Akugba community, but also all the people of Ondo State.”

    Ajibefun thanked the wife of the deceased, Adetutu, who gave the management team a warm reception.

    Mrs. Adefarati commended AAUA for deeming it fit to identify with the family. She acknowledged that God granted her late husband the grace to have made laudable impacts in the state.

    Amosun, Fayemi for Adefarati’s 10th year remembrance

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Minister of Solid Minerals Kayode Fayemi are among dignitaries expected to grace the 10th year remembrance of former Ondo State governor Adebayo Adefarati.

    The event will start tomorrow and ends on Saturday.

    Adefarati ruled the state from 1999 to 2003 but died on March 29 2007, few weeks to the 2007 presidential election.

    At the time, he was the presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

    A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity Committee for the event, Gbenga Omole said the programme will start with an holy communion service at The Chapel of Peace, Adefarati Estate, Akungba Akoko tomorrow at 8am.

    He said on the same day a friendly football match between the football teams of The Federal University of Technology Akure and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo will take place at the Akure Sports Complex by 11am.

    The statement reads “The Deputy Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Agboola Ajayi will be the Special Guest of Honour.

    “On Thursday, there will be a memorial lecture titled: “Justice and Fairness a Panacea to Peace to be delivered by Dr Kayode Fayemi at the International Events Center, the Dome, in Akure by 11am.

    Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is the chief host. The special guest of honour is Amosun and the Chairman of the occasion is Senator Titus Olupitan.

    “The grand finale which is the memorial thanksgiving comes up on Saturday by 11am at The Holy Trinity Anglican Church Akungba Akoko.”

     

  • Adefarati’s son hails progressives

    The son of former Ondo State Governor Adebayo Adefarati, Adegboyega, has lauded the pragmatism of progressive leaders, which facilitated the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

    He praised the APC leaders for the merger of the legacy parties that formed APC.

    The Akoko Southeast/Southwest House of Representatives aspirant congratulated Buhari and the Vice-President elect, Prof.Yemi Osinbajo.

    He said with the election result, Akoko people have fulfilled their promise to vote for APC as pledged when Osinbajo visited Akungba-Akoko last week.

    Adefarati urged the citizenry to vote massively for the House of Assembly candidate for the constituency in the April 11 election.

  • APC leaders pick Adefarati’s son for poll

    ONDO State All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Akoko South West Constituency 11 have endorsed Otunba Adegboyega Adefarati, the son of former Governor Adebayo Adefarati, for the National Assembly in 2015.

    The constituency is made up of Akungba, Supare, Oba and Ikun communities.

    Its Chairman, Lawrence Rogbitan, in a statement after the meeting at Oba Akoko, praised Adefarati for his steadfastness and commitment to the cause of the party.

    The motion for the endorsement was moved by Mr. Sunday Adewunmi and seconded by Chief Seinde Mise.

    Rogbitan said APC has a good chance of winning the National Assembly elections if the party could field popular candidates, adding that Adefarati is one of the credible politicians that could win the seats next year.

    Other leaders at the meeting include Dr. Amos Aduloju(Akungba), Emmanuel Felemu (Ikun),Alhaji Abdul Olumomi, Dapo Fasesin (Oba-Akoko)) and Elder Emmanuel Bamidele (Supare).

    Adefarati, who also contested for post on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2011 election, praised the party’s leaders, pledging he would not disappoint them.

    He urged the members to mobilise for the party, stressing that they should come out en masse to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

    Adefarati said the PVCs are the weapons they would use to effect the change they desire in 2015.

  • Adefarati’s family mourns

    The Adefarati family of Akungba-Akoko in Ondo State has commiserated with the National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the death of his mother, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji.

    A statement issued in Akure, the state capital, on behalf of the family by Otunba Adegboyega Adefarati said the late President-General of the Nigeria Market Women and Men lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation.

    Otunba Adefarati, who was the ACN candidate for Akoko Southwest/East Federal Constituency in the 2011 general elections, said the late Alhaja Mogaji was a special breed that left behind indelible legacies.

    “We urge the bereaved family to take consolation in the remarkable achievements of the virtuous woman when she was alive. Her exit is worth celebrating.”
