‘My wife swears for me with her private part’

A pastor, Bernard Towoju, who says he cannot tolerate his wife and her ill-nature and troubles, on Wednesday approached an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, seeking the dissolution of their marriage of 25 years.

Towoju said his wife, Abosede, was in the habit of going naked to swear for him with her private part.

“I cannot continue to make love with a woman who always swears for me with her private part,” he said.

According to him, Abosede is stubborn, wayward and troublesome.

“She once came to my office to fight me and tore my clothes in the presence of my colleagues. We fight on daily basis and hurt each other a lot.

“We always land in the police station after our fight, in fact, we are regular customers at the station,’’ he said.

The 53-year-old man also accused his wife of threatening his life.

“My wife always hits me with dangerous weapons whenever we are fighting.

“I had to run away from the house I built with my money 10 years ago to rent an apartment for safety.

“She chased me with cutlass, bottles and sticks; our neighbours can testify to that.

“I am afraid, I cannot sleep under the same roof with her with my two eyes closed,” he said.

He begged the court to dissolve the marriage as he was no longer interested in the relationship.

In her defence, Abosede, however, accused her husband of calling her a witch.

“He said everywhere he went for solution to his problems they always told him that I am behind his predicament.

“My hands are clean, I know nothing about his woes,’’ said the estranged wife.

“Bernard abandoned me and the children 10 years ago, I have been taking care of the children,” the 36-year-old fashion designer added.

The mother of four urged the court not to grant her husband’s request for the dissolution of the marriage, saying “I still love him.”

The court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case until Oct. 31 for further hearing.

  • ‘Produce our son who has been missing for seven years’

‘Produce our son who has been missing for seven years’

A house wife on Friday urged an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to compel her husband to disclose the where about of their medical student son who has been missing for seven years.

The 53-year-old caterer, Mojirayo Arokoyo, made the appeal in her testimony in the divorce suit filed by her husband, Mr Michael Arokoyo, who is seeking the dissolution of their 33-year-old marriage.

The husband had filed for divorce on ground of lack of care from the wife.

The mother of four, however, said that it was the husband who had distanced himself from the family, especially the children.

The housewife said there was a time her husband called their second born to come and see him and since then their son was yet to be found.

“My husband called our son, who was studying medicine at the university to come and see him and up till today, he could not be found.

“It is seven years now that the boy, who is supposed to be 29-year-old this year, disappeared into thin air.

“All efforts made by me to find him proved unsuccessful, please court, help me ask my husband what he did to my son.

“He does not care about the welfare of the children.

“He does not even know where the children are schooling nor does he pay their school fees. I single handedly paid the fees,” she said.

The wife said that she satisfied her husband in all ramifications.

She, therefore, urged the court not to grant her husband’s wish for the dissolution of the marriage and that she was still in love with him.

Arokoyo had earlier told the court that his wife, with whom he had four children, was not taking care of him.

“I live like a bachelor, I wash my clothes, cook for myself,” the man said.

The 65-year-old petitioner said that his wife had become stubborn and that she used to assault him.

“My wife is stubborn, she does not respect me, there was a day she slapped me and I beat her and she fainted,” he said.

The petitioner said that Mojirayo would go out at will and come back at will.

“She can leave home and returned after two weeks without letting me know about her where about,” he said.

The husband said that things were moving on fine for them until when he was no longer working.

He said that his wife suddenly became hostile to him.

According to him, his wife had turned all the children against him.

He begged the court to terminate the marriage, adding that the love he once had for his wife had faded.

The Court President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case until Sept. 26 for judgment.

  • I caught another woman cooking for my husband, wife tells court

I caught another woman cooking for my husband, wife tells court

Mrs Bimbo Olajumoke, 49-year-old dealer on fabrics, on Friday, told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that she caught another woman cooking for her husband.

She made the statement while responding to a divorce suit filed by Gbolahan, her husband of 23 years, that she (Bimbo) was troublesome.

“My husband relocated us to his house in Ikorodu, Lagos and rented another apartment in Ikotun claiming Ikorodu is far from his working place in Ikotun.

“I sell clothes in Idumota, Lagos Island and I go from Ikotun; I never complain of distance.

“Since my husband insisted on leaving alone in Ikotun, I always take food to him every week.

“He told me to stop bringing food for him and stop coming to his house.

“There was a day I went to his house unannounced when he stopped picking my calls and I saw a woman in his kitchen cooking,” she said.

The mother of three said that the children told her that their father told them to vacant the house in Ikorodu that he had sold it.

She begged the court not to grant her husband’s wish for the dissolution of the marriage that she was still in love with him.

“Please, help me beg my husband to come home; his room is still there vacant, I am not ready for divorce,” she pleaded with the court.

The petitioner, Mr Gbolahan Olajumoke, 52, had approached the court to seek for dissolution of his marriage claiming his wife was a troublesome woman.

He said that his wife’s behavior changed after he married her.

“My wife was cool and gentle when we were dating, but after the wedding, she became a demon.

“She is a trouble maker, she fight with me, my family, my friends and even neighbours.

“Because of her frequent fight, I had to relocate to a different area, “he said.

Olajumoke told the court that his wife sometimes goes out and do not return home until the following day.

“My wife always take extra clothes in her bag when going out in the morning to her shop and will not come home to sleep,” the petitioner said.

He urged the court to dissolve the marriage as he was no longer in love with his wife.

“Please, I can no longer tolerate this loveless marriage, I have tolerated her enough,” he said.

The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, urged the estranged couple to come for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) along with three members of their families and adjourned the case till Sept. 26.

  • Lagos court saves 13-year-old childless marriage, reconciles couple

Lagos court saves 13-year-old childless marriage, reconciles couple

An Igando Customary Court on Thursday in Lagos saved a 13-year-old childless marriage between Mr Shola Akande and his wife, Omolade, from collapse.

The intervention of the court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, and the couple’s families helped in resolving the couple’s
    differences including infidelity.

Omilola urged the couple to give peace a chance in the marriage and be law abiding.

“Since the court was able to reconcile the couple through thorough counseling, I urge both of you to go home and live in peace and love,” he said.

Earlier, the petitioner, Akande sought the court to end marriage, saying “my wife accused me of buying a car for my girlfriend so she seized my car key.

“I begged her to give me my car key but she refused. Her family intervened by pleading with her to release the car key to me but their pleas fell on deaf ears.”

He alleged that his wife was in the habit of fighting him, adding that, “my wife derived pleasure in tearing my clothes whenever she fights me.

“There was a day she tore my clothes in the presence of her father.”

The embittered husband also accused his wife of always stealing his money.

He said:“My wife stole my money in the house and also burgled my office and stole all the money in my drawer.”

The 52-year-old businessman said  his wife always accused him of infidelity, saying “anytime my wife sees me with any woman, she will be fighting and accusing me of dating her.

“For how long will I continue with these allegations? I can no longer talk or laugh with a woman because I am married to Omolade.

“I am a businessman, I sell land and both men and women come or call to buy land or building from me.

“My wife once seized my phones after I received a call and accused me of talking to a woman. It took the intervention of our
pastors before she released the phones to me after a week.”

The petitioner told the court that his wife had no respect for him or for her own father, describing her as a stubborn woman.

“Due to her stubbornness and my persistent complaints over her misdemeanors, her father advised me to seek the dissolution of the marriage,” he said.

He, therefore, urged the court to terminate the barren marriage that has nothing to show “for both now and the future.”

However, Omolade, 45, said  she seized her husband’s car key because he refused to pay her the money he borrowed from her but he had money to buy a car for a girl.

“I was not happy when I heard that my husband bought a car for a girl while he still owes me N220, 000.”

Omolade, a businesswoman, also accused her husband of always drinking to stupor, adding that whenever she scolded him, he would turn it to a fight.

“My husband always comes home around 1:00 a.m., drunk and whenever I cautioned him, he fights me,” she alleged.

Omolade, however, denied stealing her husband’s money and lamented the tag of a barren woman put on her by the husband.

“My husband calls me a barren woman but I had three children during the 13-year-old of our marriage, but they all died,” she said.

The respondent urged the court not to grant her husband’s wish, insisting that she still loves him.

“My wife will beat me to death one day if I continue with the marriage,’’ a 67-year-old man, Mr Olawale Jayeola, told an Igando Customary Court on Thursday in Lagos.

Olawale, an engineer, said his wife, Olatayo, was fond of punching him as if she were punching a bag, beating him like a baby.

“I have scars all over my body as proofs of her abuse. I live every minute of my life in fear. Save me from the cruel hands of my wife.

“I have suffered so much in silence; anytime we had misunderstanding, she would beat the hell out of me,” he said.

According to him, the marriage has been turbulent and fraught with fights and quarrels.

“I have not been at peace since l got married to my wife; she is so quarrelsome.

“I brought her to court in 2013 for the dissolution of the marriage, but she begged me and promised to change.

“The court asked her to write an undertaking not to be beating me again, which she wrote and the case was put on “sine die’’ stage.

“She has refused to change. Instead, her behaviour toward me has been hostile and the beating continued unabated,” the plaintiff said.

He said that his wife lacked care for him and was not giving him food.

Olawale also alleged that his wife threatened to burn his two cars.

“Please, end this loveless marriage before my wife terminates my life,” he said.

The defendant, Olatayo, however, denied all the allegations.

“I never beat my husband neither did I threaten to burn his cars,” she said.

“When I gave birth, I invited my sister to come and assist me to take care of the child, but I did not know that my husband had established a love relationship with her.

“She confessed to me that my husband was responsible for her pregnancy when I discovered that she was pregnant,” she said.

The petitioner accused her husband that he threw out her belongings and sent them to her village that he was no longer interested
    in the marriage.

Queen, who described the man as a drunk, said: “He had accused me on several occasions of poisoning his food and would refuse to eat my food.

“My husband is a threat to my life; he always drinks to stupor.

“He had threatened to burn me with fuel; in fact, he had used hot pressing iron to burn me,”

Apart from what she suffered in the hands of the husband, she alleged that her brother-in-law also assaulted her sexually.

“My husband’s brother used to touch my breasts and anytime I reported him to my husband, but he did not caution him.

“My husband also is not faithful,” said Queen, who urged the court to terminate the marriage.

On his part, Stephen also accused his wife of infidelity, saying she is involved in a relationship with a man, who impregnated  her and she later tried to abort it.

“I got to know when she got pregnant for one of her lovers and she went for an unsuccessful abortion.

“On that fateful night, she was crying seriously and rolling on the floor that her stomach was paining her. I rushed her to the hospital where it was revealed that she had an abortion that was not properly done.

“Her lover came and he confessed to me that he was responsible for the pregnancy.

“He told me that he only slept with my wife five times but my wife denied it and said it was only four times and I paid the doctor to do it again.

  • Man seeks divorce over wife’s penchant for making babies

A civil servant, Micheal Ayinde, on Wednesday pleaded with an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to end his marriage because of his wife’s penchant for making babies.

Ayinde, 39, told court that his wife, whose name he gave as Glory, enjoyed “giving births at will’’.

According to him, Glory has made six children within the nine-year duration of their marriage.

Ayinde explained that before he married Glory, he had warned her that he needed only two kids, irrespective of their gender so that he could afford their upkeep.

He said that Glory reached an agreement with him on the matter, only for her to discard the agreement.

“My lord, my wife wants to kill me with children; she is bearing them like rats.

“My wife agreed to have two kids with me but after marriage, she started having children like rats, in nine years, she delivered six children.

“She was sacked from her work place just because she gets pregnant immediately after she resumed from a maternity leave.

“I have sold my cars and some of my property to cater for the children.

“After she had the fourth baby, I begged her to go for family planning, she refused.

“I had to force her to the hospital for a family planning device but she went secretly to deactivate it without my consent.

“Some months later, she went to her parent’s place and sent me text message that she was pregnant.

“She did not return home until after delivering and naming the baby in her parent’s place.

Ayinde said that on Dec. 24, 2016, Glory left home again for her parent’s place, where she called again that was pregnant and that she would be back after delivering.

“Last month, she called me that she had delivered and named the baby, David.

“Please sir, dissolve this marriage because if I continue to live with this woman, she will continue to have more children.

“I will be compelled to sell my remaining property, which is my house and then, become a beggar.”

Ayinde also accused his wife, who was not in court of starving him and their children of food.

“My wife starves us of food. I always buy food stuff at home but she will never cook.

“If she managed to cook once in two weeks, the food is always tasteless.

“I don’t eat her food anymore because I vomit anytime I eat her food.”

The father of six also alleged that his wife was not washing his clothes and those of their children.

A mother of three, Mrs Oluwakemi Ucha, has filed a divorce suit over alleged battering by her husband for her refusal to have more children.

Forty-year-old Oluwakemi told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that she could no longer tolerate the frequent beatings.

“My husband, Simeon, beats me like a baby; he threatens to kill me for refusing to give him more children, saying that three children are not enough.

“Last month, he woke me up from sleep and started beating me with a wire. I shouted; people came but they could not rescue me because my husband locked the door before descending on me.

“He told me that he wanted to send me to heaven since I refused to have more babies; he said that I am not longer useful on earth.

“Since that day, I ran away from the house because I might die from the next beating,” Oluwakemi, who had been married to Simeon for 19 years, said.

She showed the court some scars on her body as evidence of the battering, describing her husband as irresponsible.

“He does not care for me nor the children; I feed him, pay our house rent and children’s school fees; he does not drop a penny but he wants more children,’’ the petitioner said.

He prayed the court to dissolve the marriage to save her life.

In his response, Simeon told the court that he wanted more children but his wife refused to cooperate.

“I am not comfortable with three; if she has more, God will take care of them.

“My wife is callous; while I and our family members were begging her to have more children, she aborted a three-month-old pregnancy; that is wickedness.

“She takes family planning drugs without my consent,” he said.

The 45-year-old motorcycle rider, appealed to the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying he still loved his wife.

  • My husband is an unrepentant polygamist, woman tells court

“My husband deceived me; he did not tell me that he had three wives before marrying me,” says a divorce-seeking 42-year-old businesswoman, Funmilayo Otegbola.

The woman told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Friday that her husband impregnated her and hurried her into the house.

“When I became pregnant for my husband, I moved into his house although we are not legally married.

“I discovered that he already had three wives living with him, there was nothing I could do since I was pregnant, I had to stay,” she said while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband, Rufus Otegbola, for 13 years.

Funmilayo said the man had turned her into a punching bag.

“My husband beats me all time and even when I was pregnant, he beat hell out of me; I fell into labour immediately, forcing the delivery of the baby.

“As a result of frequent beating, on May 9, 2016, I packed my belongings from his house and moved to my parent’s house,” she said, described Rufus as an ungrateful person.

She continued: “When he lost his job, I was the one feeding him with his wives and their children and I was also paying the school fees of our children and my step children.”

The mother of four, however, consented to the dissolution of the marriage, saying “I am also fed up with the union.”

The petitioner, Otegbola, had approached the court, seeking to end the marriage over wife’s fetish practices.

“My wife is diabolical and fetish, she always comes home with charms (juju)and I feared she may kill me one day if I do not end the marriage.”

The 47-year-old businessman said that his wife packed out of their matrimonial home without his consent.

“My parent-in-law and my wife’s siblings came to my house to pack my wife’s property without my permission,” he said.

The petitioner, who claimed to be the fifth husband of the wife, described her a “serial divorcee” as she had married and divorced four husbands before he married her.

“My wife is adulterous, I am the fifth man that married her.”

He urged the court to terminate the marriage that he was no longer in love with her.

The President of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after listening to the couple, adjourned the case until May 9 for further hearing.
