The Chief Operating Officer of Green Energy International Limited (GEIL), the operator of Otakikpo Field PML11 in Rivers State, Dr. Kayode Adegbulugbe has been awarded the Rising Star of the Year at the just concluded Nigeria Oil and Gas Energy Week Conference and Exhibition, in Abuja.
Themed Accelerating Global Energy Progress Through Investment, Partnerships & Innovation, the 24th edition of the 5 day conference commenced on 29 June at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, uniting global energy leaders, policy makers, industry thought leaders, investors and innovators as well as other stakeholders in the industry to tackle critical challenges and unlock transformative solutions.
Receiving the award, Dr. Adegbulugbe expressed gratitude to the organizers and award committee for the recognition.
According to him, “to be honored in the presence of such distinguished professionals, thought leaders, and innovators in energy space is truly humbling for me, and I don’t take this for granted”
He added that “this award is not just a personal achievement bit a reflection of the support, professionalism, collaboration, and hard work of many individuals and teams I’ve had the privilege to work with. I would like to sincerely thank my colleagues, mentors, and partners who have challenged and inspired me throughout this journey. Their commitment to excellence and innovation has been a continuous source of motivation”, he concluded.
Other categories include Energy Excellence Award, Equality in Energy Award, Woman in Leadership Award, Operational Excellence Award and Sustainability in Energy Award and Indigenous Company of the Year Award, which Green Energy International Limited was nominated for.
Last year, GEIL was awarded Best Indigenous Oil and Gas Company of the year and Best Exhibition Stand Design for the NOG at the NOG Energy Week held at the same venue in Abuja.
GEIL recently completed an onshore terminal, earning the title of the indigenous operator to built such a terminal in Nigeria in 50 years. The first crude oil export from Green Energy International Limited’s (GEIL) new onshore terminal occurred on June 8, 2025.
The Chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Arakeji in Osun state, Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe, will be seventy on Wednesday, April 2.
A statement issued by the planning committee described Adegbulugbe as ”a major pillar in the Christ Apostolic Church in the Federal Capital, Abuja.”
The statement read in part: ”Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe graduated with a B.Sc in electrical engineering from the University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1976 with a First Class and Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 on a scale of 5.0. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned a D.Sc. in nuclear materials engineering with a minor program in energy planning and management in June 1981.
”Throughout his career, Professor Adegbulugbe has been actively involved in shaping energy policies and plans for Nigeria. He played a crucial role in designing the Energy Master Plan for Nigeria. The Chief of Energy Limited, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe has been appointed the third Chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji Osun State.
Professor Adegbulugbe will be installed as the Chancellor tomorrow.
The university is named after the first spiritual leader of Christ Apostolic Church, Joseph Ayo Babalola (1904-1959).
The first Chancellor of the University was Oba Oladele Olashore (CON), former Minister of Finance under Chief Ernest Shonekan’s Interim Government. The second Chancellor was Pastor Oluwawemimo Odunaiya, a co-founder of Access Bank and a Vice-Chairman of the bank from 1997 to 2003.
Professor Adegbulugbe is also an accomplished energy expert with considerable experience in public and private sectors nationally and internationally.
Last June, Professor Anthony Adegbulugbe was selected by the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), lle-lfe for the first university award of excellence in research practice.
Adegbulugbe was a contributor to Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC)Assessment Reports which won for the IPCC the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with US Vice-President, Al Gore.

Dr. Kayode Adegbulugbe has held pivotal roles in reservoir, production, completion, and drilling engineering roles with major international oil companies including Shell and Chevron International Exploration and Production Companies, extending his experience and expertise beyond geographical boundaries, where he led and delivered complex projects with distinction in Angola, Houston, New Orleans, and many parts of Nigeria.
In his current role as the COO of Green Energy International Limited, (GEIL), the operator of Otakikpo Marginal Field” OML 11 He has shown a relentless resolve towards excellence in service delivery where he has propelled the company into achieving several serial number 1 feats in the Nigerian oil and Gas industry within a very short time.
The Company is producing an impressive 11,500 barrels of oil per day (bopd), currently the highest among marginal fields operators in the Country. In addition, he has led the company to installing and commissioning a 12 million standard cubic feet Modular LPG extraction plant at the Otakikpo field. This scale of modular LPG plant is the first to be installed in the country; an achievement that demonstrates that he is undaunted by hitherto serial number 1 exploits. This achievement will significantly contribute to ameliorating the perennial associated gas flares that has bedeviled the several stranded pockets of oil fields in the Niger Delta thus supporting the Nigerian government’s aspiration of combating this malaise.
As the Managing Director of Atlantic Terminal Infrastructure Limited (ATIL), He is the driving force behind the first onshore terminal to be constructed by an indigenous company in Nigeria valued at $750 million, with an initial 750,000 barrels Crude oil capacity, expandable to 3 million barrels. It is the first new onshore terminal in Nigeria in over 50 years, and first to be non-IOC owned and operated.
The onshore terminal is conceptualized as a national infrastructure with potential to unlock significant stranded reserves by providing readily accessible and efficient and fit for purpose crude evacuation and export infrastructure. It will serve as a key enabler to the Country’s development, transform the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry landscape and contribute significantly to our nation’s energy security.

Engr. Kayode Adegbulugbe was recently awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.SC) Honoris Causa by the University of Benin at the just concluded convocation on November 25, thus making him to youngest to be given such an award by the University in 48 years.
