    No plan to evict farmers for mining, says Adeleke

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has responded to the save our soul message from farmers in some parts of the state, assuring them that there is no plan or plot to evict them for mining.

    In a statement issued yesterday, Governor Adeleke said the activities allegedly seen on some farms were part of the ongoing mapping of the state by the state’s solid minerals office.

    According to the statement, ‘’state officials are moving around towns and villages to implement the state-wide solid minerals survey, which involves soil testing, among others.’’

    ‘’The initiative is to avail the state government of assets in sectors. Governor Adeleke approved the exercise as part of his efforts to consolidate exploited or unexploited resources of the state.

    “His Excellency reassures the farming community that there is no plan to evict farmers for mining. If you see people around, it is part of a state-wide survey of state assets. We encourage cooperation with state officials, especially as there is no approved mining activity in the areas of protest.

    “Our governor understands the importance of the farming community and will not approve any decision that may be injurious to farmers or any resident or citizen of Osun State. Our farmers in the affected areas are therefore enjoined to peacefully continue their farm activities,” the statement quoted Governor Adeleke as reassuring the farmers.

    Ifon-Ilobu clash: Monarchs join panel for peace

    The traditional rulers of Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun have joined the Resolution Panel members constituted by Governor Ademola Adeleke to deliver lasting peace over the lingering land dispute.

    It will be recalled that Ifon in Orolu Local Government and Ilobu in Irepodun Council have been at loggerheads over land dispute resulting in loss of lives and property. Consequently, Adeleke constituted a panel to resolve the age-long quarrel.

    It was learnt that the traditional rulers of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan and Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuf Omoloye, have met and joined the panel to resolve the crisis.

    The monarchs met the panel chaired by the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun and co-chaired by a renowned human rights activist, Comrade Waheed Lawal, along with four other traditional rulers in the state.

    Sources said Olufon, Olobu and Elerin were present at the meeting for the first time since the inception of the committee and resolved to cooperate with the government. They promised to sustain peace in the area.

    It was revealed that some grey areas were yet to be fully addressed, but the panel was able to secure significant commitment from the traditional rulers, ‘’who are ready to allow give and take in the interest of peace.’’

    Comrade Lawal said the committee, in its effort to ensure lasting solution, had heard the grievances of the indigenes of the three towns and also visited the buffer zones that were creating the crisis.

    “The committee is not just sitting to listen to grievances. We have visited the disputed areas and also collected the written submissions from the towns, which were adopted by their representatives.

    “We have also met with the traditional rulers from the communities. But the details of our meeting will be made public later during the submission of our report to the government, which will be very soon. We are hopeful that this step will ensure lasting solution to the persistent crisis in the areas.”

    Adeleke condemns attack on court

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the arson on Ilesa High Court building by yet-to-be-identified persons.

    He described the act as a criminal attack on the state judiciary.

    This is contained in a statement by Malam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for the governor, yesterday in Osogbo.

    Adeleke directed thorough investigation into the incident and also called on security agencies to beef up security on all court premises.

    “Thorough investigation must be conducted by the security agencies to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face the consequences of their actions.

    “I further direct security agencies to beef up surveillance across court buildings.

    “Additionally, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice is to join hands with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for the immediate rehabilitation of the court building,” he said.

    Adeleke, who, described the attack as a threat to democracy, said judiciary remained the stabiliser and critical arbiter of the democratic process.

    “The judiciary needs our support and not to be attacked,” he said.

    News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday.

    NAN further gathered that the arson led to the destruction of court sensitive documents and exhibits, with the entire building razed.

    An eyewitness revealed that the state fire service responded to the incident, but was unable to salvage the situation, as the fire had destroyed the building before the arrival of the firemen.

    Adeleke seeks UK subnational investment

    Governor Ademola Adeleke yesterday at the House of Common in London urged the United Kingdom government to focus on subnational investment in Nigeria with emphasis on Osun State, which he called the heartland of Southwest.

    He spoke at an investment working visit hosted by the UK Prime Minister’s Envoy to Nigeria on Trade and Investment, Florence Eshalomi, attended by the management team of ESG Management Services UK Ltd and other private sector representatives.

    Adeleke said: ‘’This is the time Nigeria and the UK should further close ranks in bilateral business relations.’’

    He said the uncertainty in the global economy called for more partnerships between and among members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

    “Besides bi-national collaboration, we advocate a further linkage between the British economy and subnational entities in Nigeria. The openings and prospects are too much to be ignored,” the governor added.

    Making a strong case for Osun State as an investment destination, he noted that “Osun presents a rare opportunity for such an economic partnership. Osun State with a population of about five million people is the heartland of Yoruba people. Southwest comprises six states, but Osun State is at the core.

    “We have huge potential for investment in mining, agriculture, digital economy, free trade zone, creative economy and others. We have a well-trained labour force and a commendable investment environment.

    “Osun boasts of being the most peaceful state in the country with a high rating in the ease of doing business. Our investment environment is boosted by a 45 window for processing of Certificate of Occupancy, elimination of multiple taxation through a unified tax system and operation of a one-stop shop for investment processes.

    “Above all, we have a strict system for the protection of investment and investors. An added advantage is our well-developed business community organised under the Osun State Chamber of Commerce and Industry.”

    Adeleke said Osun government had reduced the state infrastructure deficit by over 50 per cent, promising that by the 2025 intervention plans, the deficit reduction was targeted to be over 70 per cent.

    Responding to the address by the Governor, the UK Prime Minister Envoy expressed delight at the progress recorded by Osun State Government in the areas of attracting foreign direct investment.

    She noted that the current global uncertainty provided incentive for new investment focus, identifying key positive indices that drove investment as noted in the governor’s address.

    Eshalomi said she had the mandate of the UK Prime Minister to forge closer links for investment between UK and Nigeria businesses, expressing happiness that Osun State Chamber of Commerce was represented at the meeting.

    She acknowledged that Osun had done the spade work in the area of regulatory environment, ease of doing business, investment protection and reliable investment partners, pledging to ensure positive outcome on the engagement between Osun and the UK government.

    The major highlight of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for investment facilitation between Osun State Government and a UK investment facilitation firm, ESG Management Services UK Limited.

    The MoU was signed on behalf of Osun State Government by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, while Francisco Toju Da-Silva signed for the ESG team.

    Members of Osun State Government who accompanied the governor include the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.     Governor Ademola Adeleke has appointed Dr. Kamaldeen Adekilekun as the chairman of the state-owned Living Trust Mortgage Bank Plc.

    His appointment has been ratified by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

    A statement issued by the Acting Company Secretary of the bank, Dorcas Ajayi, described Adekilekun as ” an accomplished lawyer with over 23 years’ experience.

    “Prior to his appointment, he has been the managing partner of a successful law firm.”

    The statement added: ” He (Adekilekun)  has also served as a cabinet member of the Bayelsa State Government. He also holds a PhD in Law.”

    Communal war: Governor Adeleke relaxes curfew in Osun communities

    Governor Ademola Adeleke on Friday reviewed 24-hour curfew imposed on Ifon/Ilobu/Erin-Osun over communal war to 17-hour barely a day after the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan urged the Governor to relax the curfew to allow resident assess the ruins.

    The Nation recalled that Ifon/Ilobu and Erin clashed over land dispute which led to shooting over 30 people and destruction of property worth N2 billion, hence Adeleke imposed 24-hour curfew on warring community.

    A statement by spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed on Friday said: “Adeleke has directed immediate relaxation of the 24-hour curfew to 17 hours to begin from 2 pm to 7am, the following day.

    “The relaxation of the curfew is to take effect from Friday, 28th March, 2025, until further notice.”

    “The governor took the decision to alleviate the suffering of residents of the three towns and provide an opportunity for them to attend to their immediate needs.

    The statement added: “While commending the cessation of hostility so far, the Governor however expressed dissatisfaction with the report of another killing for which the police have made an arrest, warning that “anybody or group of persons, found or caught masterminding any violent act will face the full consequences”

    Governor Adeleke tasked the joint security taskforce to maintain their usual 24-hour surveillance to ensure zero tolerance for any act of lawlessness.

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the establishment of three camps for those displaced in Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun communal clash.

    The directive is contained in a statement by Malam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson for the governor, yesterday in Osogbo.

    The statement said the governor gave the directive after confirming the implementation of his earlier directive for the distribution of food and relief materials to the displaced persons.

    “Now that the distribution of food and relief materials has begun, I have directed the state emergency agency to proceed to set up camps for displaced people.

    “Each town is to have a camp, probably in their town halls or any place of their choice.

    “The state emergency agency will be providing food materials and accessories for the displaced people until the situation is normalised.

    The Nation recalled that communal clash between Ilobu and Ifon over land dispute resulted to shooting of over 30 person and destruction of property worth N2 billion.

    Adeleke in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, directed the immediate establishment of three holding camps for displaced people from Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun.

    He noted that Adeleke issued the directive after he confirmed the implementation of his earlier directive for the distribution of food and relief materials to the displaced people through the palaces of each troubled town.

    According to him: “Now that the distribution of food and relief materials has commenced, I have directed the state emergency agency to proceed to set up camps for displaced people.

    The statement also commended security agencies for promptly implementing his directive for the grilling and prosecution of key ringleaders in the communal crisis.

    CBN rejects Adeleke’s nomination of ex-Aregbesola’s commissioner as Osun Bank Director

    The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke’s nomination of ex-Finance Commissioner, Wale Bolorunduro, as a Director of Osun-owned Living Trust Mortgage Bank.

    The Nation reports Adeleke appointed Boluwaduro, who served under the administration of Ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the Director and Chairman of Living Trust Mortgage Bank in 2024.

    But the CBN in a letter obtained by The Nation with reference number: OFI/SG2/CON/PLI/018/171 dated March 21st 2025 titled: “Re: Resolutions Reached At The Settlements Helf on August 28, 2024 In Relation to LivingTrust Mortgage Bank PLC” declined the nomination of Boluwaduro.

    The letter signed by the Director, Other Financial Institutions Supervision Department, Oluwasola Ajewole of the apex monetary authority approved the nomination of 10 others nominated as Managing, Executive, Non-Executive, Independent Non-Executive Directors.

    The letter reads partially; “Dr. Adewale Bolorunduro’s approval is declined due to his involvement in the board crisis as ascertained in the investigation carried out by the CBN Examiners as at May 31, 2024.

    “The OSSG will be required to replace him with a neutral person to ensure stability on the board.
    “However, you are required to forward the following additional documents in respect of the below appointees within three months from the date of this letter. Failure to do so would nullify the approval of the appointments of Mr. Afolabi Olanrewaju Olatunji and Mr. Ogungbile Adeola Olusola.”

    The letter directed that Olatunji should provide letter of undertaking that he would make good the non-performing loan with Prudential Mortgage Bank while Ogungbile should make available a Executed Code of Conduct form for Directors of Other Financial Institutions.

    “Also, note that Mrs. Olaitan who had served on the board between 2018 to date, has only four years remaining as an Executive Director, In line with Section 2.5 of the Revised Guidelines for Mortgage Banks.

    ” Likewise, Mr. Michael Omolaja who had served between 2016 to 2023, has only one year remaining as an Independent Non-Executive Director in line with Section 2.5 of the Revised Guidelines for Primary Mortgage Banks in Nigeria,” the CBN added.

    Following the communal clashes between Ifon and Ilobu communities over land dispute and imposition of 24- hour curfew by Governor Ademola Adeleke, there was uneasy calm in the two local government areas of Osun State yesterday.

    The Nation recalls that the communal clash, which later spread to Erin-Osun, claimed three lives. Thirty people sustained gunshot injuries, as over 100,000 people were displaced, while over N2billion worth of property were destroyed.

    Findings by The Nation yesterday revealed that Governor Adeleke at the meeting held with the traditional rulers of the two communities, Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye and Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, threatened to hand over dethronement letters to them if the clashes continue.

    Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said: “The governor threatens to suspend the traditional rulers of the affected towns if violence should resurface, while those who sign peace undertakings will face the law if communal confrontation reoccurs.”

    The Otun Jagun of Ilobu, High Chief Leke Ogunsola, said: “For now, every where is calm. Security operatives, including the military, DSS and other personnel are on ground. The 24 hours curfew imposed by Governor Adeleke is very effective. In the morning, some people wanted to breach it by start burning houses around Bobamu-Ori-Oke and Ayedaade in Ilobu, but they were dispatched immediately.”

    He added: “At the meeting with our king, they talked to our people and threatened them. Our King, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan and that of Ifon were warned. They handed over warning letters to them, cautioning the kings that they will be deposed if there is resurgence of crisis in their domains.”

    Olufon of Ifon, Oba Akinyooye, had in a statement called on the Olobu of Ilobu and the Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuff Oyagbodun, to cease all forms of conflict and allow stakeholders to restore peace and unity to the land.

    He said: “I appeal to all indigenes of Ifon-Osun, Ilobu and Erin-Osun, who have been affected and displaced by this unfortunate incident, to return home with the spirit of community that we once enjoyed.”

    The Executive Director, Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Abuja, Mr Oluremi Omowaiye, called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to the aid of those displaced in the two local governments.

    Omowaiye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement to reporters yesterday, lamented that over 72 hours after the crises broke out; there was no response in terms of provision of aid for those displaced by the state government.

    He said: “Over 72 hours after, we have not seen anyone set up camp or provide any form of succour for those displaced in the violent clashes at Ifon, Ilobu and Erin Osun by Osun State Government.

    “These people should be treated better. I find it hard to believe that authorities directly concerned are not acting yet.”

    Omowaiye pleaded with the Vice- President, Kashim Shettima, who supervises NEMA, to direct the agency to come around and provide relief materials for the victims.

    “I am also using this medium to call on ex-governor and our political leader, Adegboyega Oyetola, to use his connections and goodwill to get aid for these people.“

    The state Chairman of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adewale Adebayo, urged well-meaning Nigerians to assist those affected by the crisis.
