Ademola, Juric resolve rift ahead of Atalanta v Sassuolo

Atalanta coach Ivan Juric has confirmed that his issue with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has been resolved ahead of their Serie A clash against Sassuolo.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference in Zingonia on Saturday, Juric said Lookman had trained regularly with the team following their UEFA Champions League victory over Marseille.

“He always works well; that reaction is something that can happen now and then, “Juric said, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juric drew parallels to a previous situation involving goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi earlier in the season.

“Ademola is unusual; you get over it. And sometimes these incidents help improve relationships: with Carnesecchi, we’ve opened up, and I feel much closer to him now.”

The 2024 African Footballer of the Year is expected to join the Super Eagles training camp after the Serie A game against Sassuolo on Sunday, having been included in the 24-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs against Gabon in Morocco next week.

  • Prayer cannot fix Nigeria, says Ademola

Prayer cannot fix Nigeria, Senior Pastor of Christ Confession Assembly Aladura Ibogun in Ogun State, Rev Adeyemi Ademola, has declared.

He said the nation’s challenges are attributable to sin and disobedience to God.

Ademola spoke with our correspondent at the unveiling of the church’s four hectares new Prayer Mountain in Pako Ifo, Ogun State.

The prayer dome will accommodate over 1, 000 worshippers from different denominations across the country.

The cleric said Nigeria will not change no matter the volumes of prayers until Nigerians truly repent from all sins and wickedness.

According to him: “We have lots of prayer crusades going on in most places but Nigerians are still complaining of the gory situation in the country.

“It is good to pray but the prayers of sinners, God will not hear.”

He stated Nigerians must return back to God with all their hearts and shun all forms of evils for the nation to prosper again.

Ademola, a member of the Aladura movement, lamented many Aladura churches have deviated from the truth.

Many of them, he said, observe old traditions totally at variance with the word of God.

He declared that any form of worship without directing people to Jesus is sheer waste of time.

Ademola added that though governments promise better living, the prosperity of Nigeria is fully in the hands of God.

  • Court rejects Lamido’s request for return of trial to Justice Ademola

Court rejects Lamido’s request for return of trial to Justice Ademola

Former Jigawa State governor has lost his bid to have his trial returned to a judge who recently stood trial with his lawyer.

Justice Babatunde Qualdri, in a ruling yesterday, refused Lamido’s application for the transfer of his trial to Justice Adeniyi Ademola, who was recently tried with Lamido’s lawyer, Joe Agi (SAN) on corruption charges.

Lamido is being tried with two of his sons – Aminu and Mustapha; two ex-aides – Wada Abubakar and Darlington Agoha – and five firms on a 27-count charge.

They were, among others, accused of abuse of office and money laundering involving about N1.3 billion.

Trial started before Justice Ademola in 2015, with the prosecution calling 18 witnesses until last October when the National Judicial Council (NJC) directed him and other judges accused of corruption to stop sitting, pending the determination of the cases against them.

Justice Ademola was later tried with his wife, Olabowale and Agi (SAN) before Justice Jude Okoke of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who later upheld the defence’s no-case submission and dismissed the charge against them.

While Justice Ademola’s suspension lasted, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court re-assigned the case involving Lamido and others to Justice Quadri’s court, a decision Lamido objected to and demanded a return of the case to Justice Ademola.

Lamido’s lawyer argued that starting the case afresh before a new judge was against the interest of his clients and that the decision of the Chief Judge to transfer the part-heard case was against the provision of Section 98(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

In his ruling yesterday, Justice Quadri resolved the two issues, set down for determination in favour of the prosecution.

The judge was of the view that the scenario created with the suspension of Justice Ademola, mid-way into his hearing of a criminal case, was not envisaged by Section 98 of the ACJA.

Justice Quadri noted that “there is nowhere under Section 98 where it is stated that where the trial judge in a part-heard matter is unable to continue, the case should be left in abeyance.

“The intention of the whole of Section 98 was to ensure justice. At the time of transfer of this case to this court, Justice Ademola was not sitting.

“This instant case has presented a lacuna embedded in Section 98. The section did not envisage a scenario presented by the case.

“I am of the view that the lacuna in the section falls short in providing a remedy to the lacuna presented in this case. First issue is resolved in favour of the prosecution,” the judge said.

In resolving the second issue against Lamido and others, the court said although Justice Ademola and Agi were acquitted after their trial, the return of the case to Justice Ademola was likely to create doubt about the integrity of the whole process in the eyes of the ordinary members of the public.

He elected to hear the case since the defendants had already been re-arraigned before his court.

Justice Quadri promised the parties to the case that he would do his best to ensure accelerated hearing and fairness.

Lamido and others were later re-arraigned on an amended charge filed by the prosecution on April 4 this year, to which the defendants pleaded not guilty.

The judge later granted bail to Lamido at N100 million with others at N50 million each. They are to, among others, produce two sureties each, who must be civil servants.

The judge gave the defendants two months to perfect their bail terms or they would be remanded in prison. He adjourned the case to October 18.

  • Govt to include Agi in graft charge against Ademola, wife

Govt to include Agi in graft charge against Ademola, wife

The prosecution team in the corruption case against Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court and his wife, Olabowale has indicated its plan to charge Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Joe Agi, with the couple.
Agi is named, in the 11-count charge against Justice Ademola and his wife, as being the source of various gratifications to the judge, some of which were allegedly received through the judge’s wife’s bank account.
Lead prosecution lawyer Segun Jegede, told a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama yesterday that there was a plan to amend the charge to include Agi as the third defendant.
In count one of the original charge, the judge and his wife were said to have conspired between March 11 and 24, 2015, to receive gratification from Messrs Joe Agi and Associates through their accounts 206/174191/2/0 and 201/110160/1/0 domiciled at GTBank Plc, and committed an offence contrary to Section 26(1)(c) of the Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act 2000.
Mrs. Ademola alone is accused, in counts two, three and four, of receiving N10m gratification thrice from Messrs Joe Agi and Associates through her GTBank account on behalf of her husband between March 11 and 24, 2015, an offence contrary to Section 8(1)(a) of Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act 2000.
Justice Ademola is, in count eight, accused of receiving gratification of a BMW saloon 320i, valued at N8m from Joe Agi, through his son, Ademide Ademola, an act contrary to Section 8(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act, 2000.
Although the case was adjourned to January 18 for trial after the couple was arraigned on December 13 last year, yesterday’s proceedings were conducted owing to an application by the defendants, who are seeking accelerated hearing in the case.
In the application filed for the couple by their lawyers, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) and Roberts Clarke (SAN), the defendants said they would prefer an abridgement of the time to allow for prompt disposal of the case.
They hinged their application on the provision of Section 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
The prosecution team did not oppose the defence’s application, following which the trial judge, Justice Okeke, adjourned to January 11 for possible re-arraignment of the defendants on the planned amended charge.
The judge fixed January 16 for the prosecution to commence trial.

TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH, SAYS MUYIWA ADEMOLA

TO most people, you can be whatever you want to be so long as you are talented, but Nollywood actor Muyiwa Ademola holds a dissenting view. Also known as Authentic, Ademola says that talent is nothing without education.

The actor made his views known while advising school students who aspire to be actors and actresses at the BON awards book reading in Akure held last weekend.

“Don’t think gift is enough, it is not. There are so many people that are talented. Anybody can act but one thing that will make you stand out is education,” he said.

Authentic found his way into movie lovers’ hearts thirteen years ago when he shot the movie, Ori, which ruled television screens nationwide. He has been consistent since then with top notch movies like Alapadupe, Owo Okuta (Law of Karma) Fimidara Ire among others.
