  • Over 100 cultists surrender arms in A’Ibom

    Peace may have finally returned to Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local government areas of Akwa Ibom state as 0ver 100 cultists belonging to
    various groups have surrendered their arms to the police.

    The development which is part of the state government’s move towards granting amnesty to the hoodlums who have terrorizing the council
    areas, saw the hoodlums renouncing their membership of the cult groups.

    The state Commissioner for Police, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, who paraded the suspects before Governor Udom Emmanuel during a
    reconciliation and rehabilitation visit to the local government areas on Tuesday, said that this was the fourth time the Governor visited the areas for a peace-seeking mission.

    Ogunjemilusi appreciated the governor’s amnesty to the repentant cultists despite the various atrocities committed by them.

    Governor Emmanuel, while addressing the hoodlums, blamed the underdevelopment currently witnessed in the Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo on
    their activities, stating that no contractor would be willing to work in areas where there is no peace.

    The Governor cited an instance where he wanted to bring a World Bank project to the Ukanafun but the contractors chose somewhere else
    instead because of the activities of cultists in the area.

    Governor Emmanuel however assured them of safety for the fact that they have surrendered their weapons and embraced peace, and urged
    Overcomer and other leaders who to follow suit between now and Thursday morning or face the full wrath of the law.

    Speaking on behave of the culprits, Faith Friday Benson alias Fine Face from Etim Ekpo, thanked the Governor for his relentless effort to
    restore peace in Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo in particular and the state at large, and assured that they have shunned violence and embraced peace, and prayed for forgiveness as they operated under darkness.

    The hoodlums are Mentor Monday, Tendom Jonah, Stainless, Enebong Sunday Akpan, Ubong Mark alias Small Shit, Gospel Long John (Jimnas), Saviour Oketeh (Point & Kill), Goodluck Innocent Monday (Small DPO), Kufre Joshua (Lagos Boy), and Victor Frank Akpan (Akpan Prophet).

    Others are Uwakmfon (Owo akan owo), Samuel Udoh Akpan (Exhibit), Victor Sunday (Fine Doctor), Silvia Dickson (Pursue no cash), Etieno
    Joseph Akpan, James Akpan (Armorer), Ebukmfon Okon (Ekpoho), Godknows (Calisto), Emediong, Utomobong Sunday (Small Money), Respect, Owoidohoabsi Ime (Arrow Destroyer), Itorobong Sunday Stephen (Arrow Mopol), and Kingsley Silas (Wise Man).

    They hail from various villages in Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo including Ikot Udobia, Idung Aneke, Ikot Etim, Ododiong, Afaha Abo.

  • Police kill four hoodlums linked to alleged attack on Akpabio’s residence

    The police in Akwa Ibom have killed four persons linked to Tuesday’s night alleged attack on the residence of former governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio at Ukana Ikot Ntuen in Essien Udim local government area.

    Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi in a press briefing at the weekend the hoodlums, robbed petrol attendants and customers at Golf Safrin filling station close to Senator Akpabio’s house, forcing security details of the Senator to immediately respond.

    The CP who explained that no one was hurt during the attack said the police had launched a manhunt leading to their subsequent killing by police operatives.

    However, luck ran out of them when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Ikot Ekpene, Benjamin Achebani, acting on a tip-off, led a massive operation where four of the hoodlums were shot dead and the ring leader, fatally wounded and captured alive.

    Displaying the remains of the criminals on Friday at the Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, headquarters of the  Police, Ogunjemilusi, said the criminals were engaged in exchange of fire with the Police, around the banking area of Ikot Ekpene, after random shooting and stealing of shops along Aba Road.

    “At about 5:00PM (Thursday), five notorious armed robbers led by one Kingsley Peter, a.k.a., ‘Morale’, who is one of the gang leaders, using three motorcycles robbed some persons along Aba road by Ikot Osurua before proceeding to a banking area to disposes ATM customers and shop owners of cash.

    “The DPO, trailed and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce shootout, four of the armed robbers were shot dead, while one Akwaowo Daniel Umoren, was arrested with A-K 47 with 60 rounds of 7,62mm live ammunition”, he explained.

    The arrested leader of the gang, Akwaowo, 27, who hails from Ikot Ineme village in Essien Udim Local Government, admitted being part of the operation, saying “this the first time to participating in armed robbery activity”.

    He explained that the A-K 47 rifle he used in the operation was issued out to him by the Village Council, adding that “the village has its vigilance group and armoury since my village is at war with the neighboring community”.

    “The gun was given to me and other boys to protect and secure the women and other villagers harvesting palm fruits at the disputed palm fruits plantation”, he added.

    Speaking to Journalists, the DPO, who said he sustained injury in the operation, urged motorcyclists in Ikot Ekpene, to purge their ranks of criminal elements, warning that the ban placed on commercial motorcycle operations from 6:00PM will not be lifted

    A’Ibom police nab 56 suspected kidnappers’ cultists within two weeks

    The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested no fewer than 56 suspected kidnappers and cultists within the last two weeks of its operations aimed at ridding the state of violent crimes.

    Parading the suspects yesterday at the state police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, the State Police Commissioner (CP), Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi said the arrest of the suspects was part of his war against criminals in the state.

    CP Ogunjemilusi, who said some of suspects include armed robbers, cultists and kidnappers, disclosed that some of them have already been charged to court while others are still being investigated.

    He said seven locally made pistols and two cut-to-size guns with six cartridges recovered. Also two cut-to-size locally made pump action with four rounds of cartridges recovered.

    The Commissioner further said that two locally made single-barrel and two locally double barrel pistols with eleven cartridges have also been recovered.

    “Six vehicles including Toyota 4 runner jeep, Toyota Matrix, three Toyota Camry, Hyundai Kia, Highlander (2003) model and assorted items used by cultists have also been recovered”, he said.

    Ogunjemilusi said since assumption of office on January 3, 2018, he studied the security architecture of the state and reposition it for effective service delivery.

    He disclosed that the State Police Command has commenced a full implementation of community based policing in the state.

    This, he said, aimed at strengthening the confidence in the Police for a better working relationship with members of the public “in a more friendly and accountable manner”.

    With the number of suspected criminals arrested so far, the Police boss noted that “strategies put in place in ensuring that crime rates in the State are brought to the barest minimum are yielding results.

    He lauded the government and people of the State for the support to the Police and security agencies towards reducing crime to barest minimum.

    Kidnapping: IGP deploys 350 policemen to Kogi

    The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase, has deployed 350 policemen to Kogi State to assist the state police command in its effort to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

    The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, disclosed this on Friday while parading 13 armed robbery suspects arrested between May and June this year at the state Police Command headquarters in Lokoja.

    Those paraded included two people from a gang that allegedly attacked two policemen in the state.

    The commissioner, who conducted journalists round the suspected criminals, said several guns, ammunition and other dangerous weapons were recovered from them.

    Ogunjemilusi commended the IGP for deploying more police officers to Kogi and appealed to residents of the state to reciprocate the gesture by giving useful information that will assist the police in its bid to rid the state of criminality.
